  • In this critical analysis, we delve into the UK Labour Party's groundbreaking strategies for reshaping the transportation and automotive sectors. With recent polls indicating a potential Labour victory in the upcoming general election, understanding their approach to automotive policy becomes essential. This video offers an in-depth look at the initiatives proposed by Louise Haigh, Shadow Transport Secretary, and insights from Jonathan Reynolds, Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Industrial Strategy, highlighting Labour's commitment to an equitable and sustainable automotive future.
    Under Louise Haigh's leadership, Labour pledges a radical shift in transportation, including nationalising railways and bringing buses under public control. The party promises to combat rising living costs by confronting exorbitant petrol prices and unfair car insurance fees, potentially saving drivers up to £685 annually. commits to scrutinising hidden insurance fees and addressing pricing disparities affecting less affluent communities.
    We also cover the proposal document: "Driving a Growing Economy: Labour's Plan for the Automotive Sector." Jonathan Reynolds articulates Labour’s vision of leveraging the UK’s robust automotive industry, currently employing 800,000 people and contributing £16 billion to the economy. However Labour's personal transport strategy seems to revolve entirely around electric vehicles.

      But, This Country is no longer in a position to ‘ go quietly ‘ on a squeeze upon Motorists Without the motor industry We will have lost one of the last hopes of financial stability !
      Lose the car. You also lose the Fuel Industry. Both are such large producers of tax revenue That no government or country would even consider jeopardising a trillion pound yearly golden gift !
      Beside that, The Motorists are becoming quite volatile against Authority …

    I've come to the conclusion that the purpose of politicians is to cause the common man to become so disillusioned in the whole system that they start to think they haven't got a say in what's happening, the publics opinions aren't being listened to, and all the parties are as bad as each other, so why bother trying to engage with the system.
    TBH, none of the political parties have been interested in what the public want them to do for years. They only seem to occasionally listen to us for the purpose of gauging what psychological buttons they can press to get the public to think what they're doing is for the good of the people.

    I just wanted to add about car insurance and VED, really not looking forward to renewing my insurance in Jan 24, as I'm expecting it to be double what it was this year at £430 Comp, I've owned a lot of cars in my life, and 4 years ago I decided to buy a Diesel because the VED was a third I was paying on my same make Petrol Audi, and was sick and tired of paying through the nose to drive on crap roads, when I bought it in 2019 it was 10 years old, and the VED was as I recall £135 p.a, it has steadily been increasing £10 p.a. until this year when it went up by £20.00 just why... yet more money grabbing.
    What I want to know is why, my car passes an MOT every year, without issue, no more emissions than last year or when I bought it 4 years ago, or indeed when it was brand new in 2009, Diesel keeps increasing in cost as does petrol, when I lived in Italy for a while Diesel was actually cheaper (don't know about now tbh) it seems to me the Gov changed the name from Road Tax to VED, some years ago so they could justify the yearly increases without doing anything to cover maintenance of our road network, more and more potholes seem to appear weekly, and the reason I surmise they don't get repaired is this mantra of speed kills so if the roads are full of potholes no one is going to speed.... problem solved, while all the time digging into our pockets and giving nothing back.

The faster you're moving the less work the engine has to do to maintain speed (especially when approaching and climbing an incline), so 20mph limits, reduce your momentum and speed by a third, while adding a third to your run time on journeys which means more emissions, and by the way, most engines will labour at 20 in anything above 3rd.. so 20mph limits add a third to your journey time/engine running time, remove a third of your momentum and ability to maintain speed without added work from the engine requiring more fuel, but since you will be forced into a lower gear at higher rpm, your engine runs longer, hotter, faster, causing more emissions and wear, which results in more fuel burned and more parts to replace more often and all the damage to the planet associated with that also..
      Long story short, you're talking complete shite.

Believe me I worked for them for decades. A lot of the time each part is billing the other through the sub contracting of labour force. Government sits firmly below that and all they do is create interesting sounding spins based on what the agenda dictates. The whole argument about Co2 is flawed. Co2 makes up 0.04 % of the gases in the atmosphere and if it drops below 0.02 % plants stop growing. Countries like the Netherlands have recently cut food production in greenhouses to help meet EU directives on climate change. To be perfectly honest a proper open informed debate is needed without any avoidance of difficult issues, that are being avoided in the interests of preserving politically correct agendas. And that would be a good starting point. Many people won't see the connection, but trust me, the connection is there

    There is no way that they can expand the grid infrastructure, and power generation, by 2030. And why are they apparently concentrating on electric vehicles, rather than helping to develop cleaner, and more efficient alternatives?? Their biggest problem will be their obsession with stopping fossil fuel generated power, and relying on more solar and wind power generation. This cannot be achieved, and certainly not by ,2030.

    • @Brian-om2hh

      Most electric vehicles already operate at 80 to 90% efficiency. What sort of vehicles do you envisage achieving even higher efficiency still? The grid doesn't need to be expanded by 2030, as that was simply the date of the original ban on the sale of new ICE cars and vans. Millions of existing ICE cars and vans would continue to be used for 15+ years after the ban was introduced. You appear to think the change will be like a light being switched off. It won't. It will be a gradual process taking a decade or longer.....

    its a major issue that private companies who have built windfarms cannot connect them to the grid they pay a fee of about 9 million pounds and join the que this disrupts profits to their shareholders a typical wind generator must have a return of around 140 thousand pounds a month after running costs and they are not producing any power because the grid is not capeable of taking any extra capacity until the overhead cables and substations are upgraded.
    because of this problem no more windfarms or solar plants are being built . The whole thing is doomed to failure unless someone gets a grip on the national grid and upgrades it to take the extra capacity, they are simply waiting in the wings to connect to the grid and the typical lifespan of a windfarm is only 20 to 25 years , the investors are waiting for a return on their investment up to 6 years before they can get connected thats a big loss in proffits for the orriginal investors.

    A major thing the grid needs is to fully and properly support diverse demand. Most of the grid is very old by now, and when designed it was thought large centralised plants would be the thing. With green energy almost the exact opposite is true, lots of small wind turbines and solar farms dotted around everywhere. Particularly in rural areas not well served currently.
    There's also an element of technology missing. How do you go from coordinating 50 large power stations, to 5,000,000 wind turbines and solar installations.
    On top of that, in the future it's expected almost every home will be generating power itself, and have an EV sat overnight able to give and take power. how do you coordinate the 50 million residential solar, and micro turbines. How do you coordinate 35 million EV batteries and balance it all.
    The technology there needs to allow communication to and from every producer and consumer so real time demand can be met with as little as possible going on the long distance grid due to the losses involved there. So power used in your town will be generated in your town, or at least not too far away.
    The problem is how much we'd be being ripped off. Because lets face it... why should the electricity company get thousands of pounds a year per person, when we're all using the power each others houses generates? and the power company is just topping it up with a couple of wind turbines. So I can see a change from pay per kWH to a flat charge for 'access and services' relating to the 'smart-er meters' and controllers that would be needed to regulate it all.

    Take the battery in a Kia EV6, 77kWh, that could provide up to 11 homes with a 6.5kwh back-up battery for PV solar and or wind turbine, reducing the reliance on mains power, especially coal/gas generated power. Wouldn’t that be the logical approach to the fabled Net Zero?

    ultimately i think that ev's will have to be made in GB, who would want to transport 100's or 1000's of EV;s on cargo ships, with 2 ships being totalled, along with contents.
    insurance companies may refuse insurance for this transport method.

      Some EV's *are* already manufactured in Britain....... Statistically, an ICE car is around 50 times more likely to catch fire than an EV.

    • @user-tq1qd3iu2t
      @user-tq1qd3iu2t 9 месяцев назад

      @@Brian-om2hh Depends how you calculate your stats. If you are just comparing numbers then there are many many more petrol and diesel vehicles in existence so straight numbers are meaningless. If its a percentage of the total number I do not believe that stat is true at all and even if it were the type, degree and extent and consequence of a fire in an EV is off the charts worse than in an ICE vehicle.

    Very few people buy new vehicles period. Most are very old second hand.
    From what you say labour will be evdn worse that tories. It will wrech such manufacturing and motor vehicle industries we have left.
    I wont be getting an ev or battery vehicle. I will stay wigh my little friend ice powered. Its far superiour to an ev system.
    If everyone had ev battery vehicles the national grid would not be able to cope with demand. Obviously there are no engineers amongst them.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 9 месяцев назад

      Most new cars are leased by large companies etc. But once the leases expire, those cars are sold on the open market for anyone to buy. Personally I'd ay most used cars are from 12 Months old downwards. Even those "very old" secondhand cars you mentioned, began as new ones at one point.... you can't have very old cars unless someone buys new ones!

    Anybody who listens to your common sense wording should be impressed as most politicians just arn"t petrol heads and Labour transport ministers have a a long history without driving Licenses and without much idea .And put my name down with the others on here who don"t trust the Socialists ,Starmer has done more than 30 U turns since he became leader of his party and could you really trust him ?. I still have a collection of classic vehicles and at 74 I look like having a mobility scooter as my next transport which looking at my late wife"s dealings with them as an electric vehicle was at best woeful ,as a retired mechanic ,starting in the Royal Navy and then going on to the Merchant for years and retrained as a vehicle mechanic ending my working life with Nissan .I will be hard pressed to give up my i.c.e. Bikes & cars . Keep - up the good work ! .

But is not ulez compliant ❤.the second is a 2005 seat ibiza with 142kg /km and £200 road tax and is ulez compliant. Really .which would you consider as more polluting? ❤

    • @markf4720
      @markf4720 9 месяцев назад

      @@davidimpey4937ULEZ is a localised tax on vehicles which produce high amounts of certain pollutants that are damaging to health, to try to protect the health of people in that area. VED is based on CO2 emissions which cause global warming. Diesels are generally better for the planet from a global warming perspective, but they produce nasty NOx and particulates which are bad for anyone breathing in the fumes. VED and ULEZ have two different aims.

      An accident damaged EV is not necessarily a write off. They can be repaired, just like any other car. An increasing number of garages are now HEVRA qualified..... Cleveleys Electric Vehicles in Gloucestershire, have been repairing electric vehicles and refurbishing battery packs for some time now. Other similarly qualified companies are doing the same. Hate most of what the lefties are up to but the idea you can have competition on railways when all they do is grant licences for monopolies is bizarre. There is zero competition so it is a daft proposition from the get go unless it is just a way of money laundering public money to private companies which of course is exactly what is. The WEF want an extreme form of communism so I can see them using Labour to get this aspect back under the wing of the state.
