I was having some difficulty removing the slide. You might mention that you need to pull down the takedown lever on BOTH SIDES SIMULTANEOUSLY. Otherwise, excellent explanation for this absolute tyro.

I have seen them on line for $229 like you mentioned, but that is before shipping, FFL, and tax. Got my G2C for $175 OTD and I liked it so much I had to have one of these. I recently bought my very first firearm, a G3XL. I've been devouring videos on saftey and use and range etiquette, all kinds of stuff. Then It dawned on me - I gotta clean the thing! I didn't want to do anything harmful to the weapon or dangerous to me or others so, back to youtube. And here you were. Thanks man, you've been a huge help. I was really hoping you'd show us what to do with the brushes though lol. I somehow got it in my head that you're only supposed to clean the barrel from back to front and you might damage the rifling if you go front to back with a brush.

    • @travisp11
      @travisp11  Год назад

I generally go back to front with the barrels but with those soft bristles, especially the nylon ones, you wont damage the rifing. But if you can, back to front and that is where a bore snake comes in handy.

Just taking a moment to pen you a thank you note. This video is an excellent tutorial. I just got my first pistol, a Taurus G3, which some of the guys at the range I go to were happy to help me with an initial basic cleaning so I could get to shoot it the day I bought it. It was in part thanks to your review of the G3 that I ended up picking up the gun, after finding a 19:1 positive to negative review ratio. I realized that there were some guns a slight step up I did want, but the G3's price point would afford me the ability to buy more ammo with the pistol, and the chance to better become proficient with it.
I put 190 rounds through it the first day, no stoppages or failures to eject. With your video I just gave the gun its first deep cleaning, and I am looking forward to getting out to the range again this weekend!

Yeah unlike most semi-autos you have to pull the trigger first. My first semi was a Ruger Mark ll. Compared to that take down on this one is a piece of cake.If you want to practice a lot buy a Ruger Mark lV bull barrel. Take down is easy, ammo is cheap, and it will knock the eye out of a knat. I like stainless- doesn't rust as easy.

A quick tip that always worked for me when putting the slider back in, when u got 75% of the slider in grab the slider at the front end and lift it upwards as u slide it all the way in it should slide in perfectly coz thats where it gets caught up for some reason.

Just bought a g3. Thanks for this vid. Thus far I've bought everything necessary except for protective Eyewear. However, I wear glasses to correct my vision so it's difficult to find glasses that fit over my glasses without fogging up.
Anyway, after watching this I'm gonna clean my g3 even though I've never even chambered a round in it yet. Apparently, it's likely to be dirty.
    Off to clean!
    Update...
I used cheapo synthetic oil and cotton pads purchased at Walmart. I didn't clean it as thoroughly as the video depicted. However, all four cotton pads I used were covered in black residue and I've never chambered, much less fired a round with this pistol.
I plan on taking it to the range next weekend and purchasing a combo laser sight/tactical light. I doubt I'll ever use this thing outside of the range but as many people wiser and older than myself have said, "it's better to have a gun you never need than need a gun you never had."
    Opinions please...
Are "herter's" brand good rounds? I have a 100 box of those and 100 box of Remington. Both are 115 grain.

Highly suggest following this guy's lead and cleaning your G3 as soon as you get it. I took mine to the range straight outta the box and it wouldn't cycle a single round, misfeed after every shot. Thankfully, after about 60 rounds (~4 mags worth), it started working beautifully. Even the rep at the gun store I got it from mentioned how slick and covered in oil it was when I bought it (shoulda listened to him). Just a good idea to give it a once over as soon as you get it as the manufacturer ships these guns assuming they're gunna sit in a box for awhile, not taken to the range immediately.

Mine sat in the box for a little while before my first range trip. Put about 70 rounds through it without a single problem. With that said, I'm certainly going to give it a good cleaning as I suspect it is dirty.

Thanks for the video. This is my first firearm, so the in depth steps were very helpful. I'm glad I made a good choice in your opinion.
Oddly though, I purchased mine new in November, and it has the same silver scratch you noticed at 11:40. I have yet to fire mine, but do you think it could come from the discharge of the spent cartridge? Maybe the base of the cartridge makes contact there?
Also, mine caught when reassembled just like yours, but only after cleaning. I have disassembled several times for practice, that never happened. Too weird.
Keep the videos coming. Who was at the door?
    Thanks Travis!
