      Man, I WISH that was considered "too low." People in general just aren't all that enthused about forking over even $100 for something like this. Not when cheap alternatives exist. I mean, Moleskines (ugh) are already considered quite the luxury, especially where I'm from.

      @DAVE ADAM yeah you really cant, you need someone to buy it. say you sold 1 of these for $50 (and this is considering millions of books are made with content in them for far less) , youd still need to make another 20,000 to just gross 1million. If you want to net that much then most like youll have to make double the amount.
      Considering at 20,000 minimum you are making 54 of these per day for the year it just can happen with so many processes taking a week at least (the drying the pasting the pressing) and then who would even be willing to purchase even 1000 of these over the course of 5 10 years let alone the 20,000 you have made (of course including variation as a minimum).
      And then you have made the product and that is 5% of what is needed in order to sell it. Theres marketing (the biggest one) , financing, targeting, and much more which will even give you the chance to be somewhat competitive.
      I am sorry for tearing you apart like this but you do not have the faintest clue of what you are talking about.

    • @abz4852
      @abz4852 4 года назад +1

      @DAVE ADAM you made a business plan that was bank approved? Really? I have no idea why you find that so reliable considering:
      1. In current period banks are giving out and printing money like madmen
      2. Any decent person knows how many so called bank approved businesses still failed at the end of the day. Hint: Its not a small percentage.
      Then you may say a well its a well thought out plan, it will not fail as bad. You are challenging the art market. We are not talking about content filled books that a whole entire topic entirely. These books will be sold empty and are being bought purely off the quality and the aesthetic.
      What goes though you seem to think youve nailed it hard with your idea of very easily finding 1000-10000 individual consumers looking for this precise product at a price range of $350+. Then you say we can use assembly sub-assembly and a standardisation process, so bam well done you have destroyed the quality of the world slash that price in half and you have also up the expenses. Can you contribute something useful? Mynti Girl who I wont assume has no knowledge of creating these books, may do very well with your so called insight and understanding of the market but this is only with your insight. Otherwise she will be sitting with 10,000 books produced (which btw she wont produce this many in a year, its still close to 3 books per day assuming she works at it every single day) , head level in debt and cursing herself for listening to some random stranger on the internet.
      To whoever does make 10,000 of these in a year, I will personally give them 1 million, thats how sure I am of it. And you are right, I would never purchase this, I may make this myself but I will never purchase this, and if any of the rich people who have read the likes of Think and Grow Rich, How to Win Friends and Influence People, the Richest Man in Babylon, or even Rich dad poor dad. If any of them buy one of these Ill commend them for being willing to spend that much money on something that goes against all their teachings, unless they a collectors. Which again a niche within a niche. Such a sadly small market.

    • @abz4852
      @abz4852 4 года назад +1

      @DAVE ADAM oh sure, I will head off but before I do I must ask with your incredible self assurance on the fact that the mass production of this book type and selling of it would be so successful, why do you not do it yourself? Surely you would be ever so successful at it that I would be willing to prostrate before you. Also you are very right. I in fact do not own 1 million dollars, I am what you can consider the living slave, working about 60 hours a week, which does not make me rich enough to afford a home where I live but certainly not poor enough to make large sums of investments.
      In my current sickness I have gone to spending a short while of time on youtube and have entered quite a useless argument with you. But anyways I plan to change all that and I would like you to answer my above question.

    • @abz4852
      @abz4852 4 года назад +1

      @DAVE ADAM okay well I hope to see you do well in if you profit in producing this product. I understand the entrepreneur mindset and am sure for one that its not something I will have. My negativity is natural for me and I tend to prefer to live life with a bit of a more harsher view if you will.
      Thank you for your concern over my health. I personally do enjoy creating things in my free time. I currently am in the process of writing a series of books my self while I keep my full time work and transition to learning a trade I enjoy. You are right I am quite lacking in marketing. I know a little marketing myself such as social media marketing, email, website, cold calling, lead generating, seo, sem, influencer marketing, affiliate marketing, relationship marketing and then all the pricing strategies with upselling and what not but I have zero experience using them. I am sure if you make use of alot of these or to a proficient level you may get your target audience but for me I am far happier providing services and then carefully investing since I can obtain a far greater return for very low effort.
      If something you say pisses me off in the future Ill come argue with you later so until then.

    Hey, thanks for this tutorial. I am half-way through my first attempt, and it is going great. I am even using a chair for my jig for stitching the signatures together, too!
    For reference, I soaked each piece of paper individually in the tea for 4 minutes, then baked for 8 minutes at 210F. This allowed for two in the oven and one in the tea at the same time, then I rotated them every 4 minutes; took out the dried paper, shifted the half-dried one over, and added the new one. Took only 2 hours for the 30 pieces I'm using.

Allow me to educate you: While you may have practiced witchcraft for sixteen years and may be very experienced, your space may not have been cleansed. But please don't discredit the Goddess, no one here has discredited what you believe in. If anyone wants to do harmless spellwork, they should be free to express it without judgement. And if you don't like this kind of stuff, why are you on a video about how to make a spellbook? Please be mindful, and respect the beliefs of others.

    As a leather worker, some tips I would recommend is a beveler stamp tool for relieving designs instead of just plain cutting them. Go lighter on the dye. Contact cement instead of glue. Keep the leather damp while working with it with water and mink oil. A final coating of neatsfoot oil when done, no wax.

      Mrs Sonderbar I made one, my dad saw me writing in it and didn't comment on it. When my mom told my dad that I had hand made that book, he said that it looked so good that he didn't realize that I had made it. It was the first time I had ever bound a book, it's very much possible for you to bind an amazing one!

    This is probably one of the most awesome videos I have ever seen on RUclips! I want that book so much, but unfortunatly I don't have the time, patience or skill required to make. I think it would be an awesome idea to sell these kinds of products to people. They would deffinately get their moneys worth. You and your work are amazing. You have so much talent.

    I am currently rebinding an old cheap book since the last 3 days (Lucky me, I have a pro on my side who surprise me today with a piece of leather to bind it... Now I am dyeing paper with coffee because I want to create my own book too... I guess I am addicted already 😁!

    I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it (since there are over 1,000 comments), but the baking paper that you used is called Parchment Paper. It's the only kind of baking paper my family uses, because the Wax Paper didn't work as well for baking... Also, you should be careful what kind of eraser you use on leather if you're going to stain it. Some erasers leave a slight residue that you can feel, if you run clean fingers over the area you used it. That residue can alter the color of the stain on both wood and leather. Sadly I can't recall what the best eraser is for that, as I'm more into drawing and painting. I did paint a wooden serving tray (about 18 years ago) and erased the marks I made to center the design, I sealed it with a tinted varnish. The areas where I used the eraser were not the same color as the rest of the tray. No one else ever noticed it, but I did since I knew it should have been a more even color. I'm not sure if this is a problem you've ever had or not, but I just wanted to let you know it is a possibility.

      She didn't use parchment paper. She just used normal paper soaked in tea. The 'baking' part was just drying the paper out and setting the color.

    • @angelmuggleangel5042

      @@RassTheKing I was referring to the piece of "baking paper" she placed in the book at 6:23, to protect the pages from the glue. She simply called it *Grease Proof Baking Paper* , but if you buy that in a store it's called *Parchment Paper* . LOL, sorry for the misunderstanding! *;-)*

    I love how the spell book turned out, but I think I'll just buy a hardbound journal from my local bookstore and trick it out with metal accents. Maybe make some of my favorite black tea to stain the pages to make it look like parchment.

    Absolutely fascinating! Bookbinding and leatherwork - two subjects I have always been interested in, but never found the time to learn myself. Funny how satisfying it is to watch someone make something on video - it’s almost as good as doing it yourself. I may make one of these, or I may encourage someone to watch and try it as well. A few minutes invested, and a moment of true enjoyment in return. Much better than wasting time watching sitcoms.

      Get an old leather purse and trace over a small handbook, cut out the covers, use a spoonful of Sanka coffee in a cup of hot water to stain the pages, let dry, get some fishing thread or bakers' twine for the binding and hopefully you have some Elmer's glue laying around somewhere.
      Use an upholstery needle to sew your designs by hand into the flap corners and tah-dah! A mini spell book.Lol.

    feed back for the future, you want to dye the leather before burnishing the edges. The burnish adds a protective layer that wont let the dye sink it so it tends to turn out patchy

    I've had a lot of success aging paper with instant coffee and microwaving it and spraying/paint the edges with an extra dose of instant coffee when its a bit damp to get an aged look. It's a lot faster, uses less energy and is easier to experiment with.
    I've also seen leather thinned out with a drum sander on a dremel tool (as a substitute for a knife)
    And as a precaution, when using pliers to clamp the metal book ends down, you can slip in a piece of cloth, cardboard or leather in between the pliers nose and the decorative metal surface to prevent any tool marks from marring the surface. (I didn't see any problems with that here, but just something to keep in mind)
    This was a really cool video! I really loved how accessible the tools where and how easy to follow the video was! Like damn, I wish more videos were like this!
