@II QuietRiot II wait, I have to know, does that smell ever change; Similarly how you can smell bad coffee? I would think that the coffee would continue to decompose, and because coffee has NH3 in its composition it could release ammonia making a terrible smell later. Very "solid" project! I once saw a full metal binding in on of our libraries here that had a chain mail type of construction made out of silver-copper alloy to keep the spine flexible. The tragic thing was that somebody had left the book open without closing the clasps and the parchment inside swelled too much for it to be ever closed again.
@@brocktechnology The problem was mainly the wrinkling, that's where the swelling of the book came from. Parchment achieves its smoothness by drying under a lot of tension and then cut to size. It doesn't have the property of paper to just wet it again, press it and dry it. When it's already in book format, with writing, illuminations and so on, it's rather hard to hook it onto a frame and tension it again to become smooth. It has to keep pressed under all times, hence the clasps on the book. As the conservators told me, there was always the option to fit it into a new binding, constructed with the change of proportions in mind, though it was a shame it would never fit again in its original beautiful binding.
OK by far one of the BEST BOOKS YOU'VE EVER MADE Martina!! WOW doesn't even cover how awesome this turned out - and those final shots... ARGH! PERFECTLY EPIC!!!!!! Have you ever thought about filling your books with things following their themes? Like, painting a page in the water tome to look like a puddle, or pressing leaves into the forest tome, or doodling burning objects in your fire tome.
I know this comment wasn’t for me (a random joe), but your question was similar to what I was thinking. My husband taught my younger sister photography, and she wants a book to put them all in. She wants a cool portfolio but not a scrapbook. She also draws cartoon strips. I was going to start making her these tomes, and she can fill each one with photos that follow with the theme of the tome itself. Unique, clean pages, whimsical enough to suit her arty nature, and her own individual incentive to keep pursuing photography.

Hi! Some time ago I tested a few techniques to etch aluminium and I described the one that worked best for me in my notes. I laminated photoresist onto a roughed up aluminium surface for masking as I would do for electronic PCBs, but nail polish works well. I had some failed attempts with electrical tape, the mordant finds its way under it at some point, especially if you etch deep. For the mordant I used 1 tea spoon table salt and 1/2 tea spoon citric acid for each 20mL of water. The aluminium piece is completely submerged into the mordant and attached to the positive electrode of a generator. A sacrificial copper object is connected to the negative electrode and submerged as well. Then 45 to 50 minutes under 1.7A current for a .5-ish mm depth (I assume this would vary depending on your application, etching depth is a somewhat linear function of time with this technique). Citric acid is used to neutralize the sodium hydroxide that forms during the electrolysis, which would otherwise attack the surface in a non controllable fashion (and also ruin the photoresist). Hope this helps if you intend to try this again at some point! Always a pleasure watching you!
I'm still so surprised and excited that you featured me in your inta story. Your new merch is amazing. I really enjoy watching your content and appreciate your work.
Man as a Fellow Dwarf Fanatic. I applaud your craftsmanship in making this piece! Outstandingly brilliant! Particularly since it was your first time on such a project. I've seen some of your other presentations, and have always find them informative as well as entertaining. A couple of suggestions. Not to make it better - just an alternative version. How about spray painting the upper sections with a black metallic paint with a shiny luster, and the lower sections with a red metallic paint. Instead of leather straps, use metal clasps that would allow you to put two small locks on them. It would give the book an air of sinister mystery - with people asking "What is in that book, why is it locked." One last suggestion - although admittedly, this would be a HUGE undertaking. For the pages, obtain paper that has been written on. Doesn't matter what it would say - although it would be best that the writing makes sense. The best stuff would be Old English-type lettering, giving it a Medieval feeling. If the language was in Latin or a pseudo-Latin, it would give it an additional air of mystery. And for the piece-de-resistance - if possible - etch a title on the front cover.
@Florencia Aurelia It's Norwegian, but those are not actual words, it's from the Jungle Book or something and for some reason people in the nineties started using it as "what's up", I don't know. "Hva skjer a?" is asking what's going on and that's shortened to "skjera" which sounds like Shere (Khan) from The Jungle Book, then Bagereea from The Jungle Book. Then you can answer with "ingenting tingeling" which means "nothing" plus Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. Why? Well, nobody knows.

Electroplating etching can be done much easier. To do this, you need to print on office paper the necessary drawing in a mirror image. Only on a laser printer. Then attach the sheet with the printed pattern to the desired place on the metal and iron the sheet. The toner will switch from paper to metal. Then you can start etching. At the end of etching, you will need to wipe the toner from the metal. Acetone is good for this. If you need engraving, not etching, it is better to use a stichel and a hammer. In General, now there are CNC machines for this.
I remember being on a D&D server with a 7ft, warforged wizard who had what was basically this book. Gold inlay for writing, metal pages, inch thick covers of pure steel, and has straps to lug it around like a backpack since it was so damn heavy. The idea was that it was basically invincible and wouldn't break. My favorite part was when my gnome wizard interacted with him, and compared spellbound. I had a paper field guide that fit in my pocket because it was convenient (which for a gnome, might as well be a business card holder). The warforged would slam his "book" on the ground, and my gnome could've used it as a stage it was so big.
now, let's have a look at the final result! *epic climax, watchers are excited to finally see the result, everyone is on their toes* ad: tHe nEw mAcbOoK aIR
Can I suggest something Stargate ? Cause considering how much you guys love a challenge, electronics and LEDs, I feel like it's perfect for you. Like even a diorama, sure the other planets don't look alien (looks like Vancouver lol) but I always thought the spaceships were some of most original looking out there, and very fitting with the aesthetics of their races. The Destiny, Atlantis and the Asgard and Wraith ships are really great. The Stargates themselves are awesome and perfect for LED's and electronics. Like the inner circle of the SG1 one spins when you dial it, the one from Universe spins completely and for the one from Atlantis, light swipes across the ring. All three lights up and create a vortex. Idk, I just feel like it would be a great project for you guys :)

Skjera Bagera. Awesome project Martina. I was astonished how heavy the finished book is since the cover is aluminium. Makes also some astonishing effect on the book shelf. I would like to see a lantern made with that design. I would use blue or purple paper or fabric to cover all the nooks and crannies from the inside in order to let the light shine through.

Just adore you and your channel. My house is filling up with your projects. Even a camper van conversion. X
Amazing! This is the 3rd NerdForge video I've watched. I have about 25 pages of a script for a film and have been stuck for over a year on it. Your videos have inspired me to start writing again and I realized that I need to create a "world" for the setting for the film in order to proceed. I watch this video and you're advertising world building software. Keep up the good work!!!
You should make the Charmed book of Shadows! That show was amazing!
OMG YESS!!! I LOVE CHARMED!!!
Omg yes! That would be so cool to see Martina make that book!
YESSSS
That would be so cool, she should totally do that 😁
The original not the cringy remake right?
This is really such a blessing to spend all your time with doing what you love! Imagine waking up and being pumped about you project for the next couple days. Sadly I am really afraid to just completely drop everything, dip into my interests and try make a living out of my hobbies...plus I think you need a little bit of luck next to your hard work to actually make it.
I just signed up for the World Anvil, literally the coolest thing ever. When you said you were doing an add I thought "noooo pls no adds." I DO NOT regret watching through that one XD
The way her face lights up before opening the package SO CUTE! 🥺🙂☺️
I want to be as good at engineering and building like her. She is such a successful person.
I'mma need one of these as my notebook for my forge work and woodworking techniques.
every time they post a video I think "they can't ever top this" and then they DO
Electroplating etching can be done much easier.
AWOOGA
This is one of the most incredible things you have ever made!!
It greatly lightens my heart, in this technical age, to see someone so young get so excited about a book. THANK YOU! What an awesome creation!
I feel like we should be expecting a fantasy-style wizard’s bookcase/library build someday
This is freaking incredible. Amazing work you guys!
now, let's have a look at the final result! *epic climax, watchers are excited to finally see the result, everyone is on their toes*

This is an absolutely incredible work of art. Thank you so much for sharing this with us all!
Ahhh... The great book of grudges, Thorgrim Grudgebearer would be pleased to have it.
SO COOL!!! 😍🤩😃
...can you make another out of bronze? 🤔😁
Suddenly the casting portion of this was dwarfed, amazing build
I just finished making my first book and then this pops into my recommended. Time spend my whole week on a project im not ready for.
This is absolutely amazing! One day it would be awesome to do this for my homebrew world bible. Words can't do this project enough justice.
I like the hair. That's all I'm saying.
That is magnificent! Looks like what I imagine when Gimli is reading from the book in Balin's tomb!
My reaction to every step: “wow that’s beautiful!” Even when it was covered by the masking tape. You carving out the pattern... 🤯 Woman! What are you made of?? 😳
I've been watching your stuff lately and I have to say your books are my favs. This one just tops it. Great work.
Whaaaaaat?? My fellow italian Black beard projects!! Omg! When i saw the italian stuff i immediately tought of him but i said "na, his projects are usually a bit different from this" .. Awesome collaboration :) now back to see the video (I stopped to comment after a minute 😂)
You made this book come out beautifull, Miss! :) I would use black gemstones, so they match color with the straps, but I think it's the masterpiece anywats! :D Love your work. And your hair :D Please continue making books
This is so cool!!! And I love Black Beard Projects! 🖤 He makes such cool stuff. Two very talented channels and I think it's awesome how you worked together to make this magnificent project!
Amazing tome. Best of yours so far, and the others were awesome as well. Also, love your energy.
As someone with braces, I feel sorry for you right now.
why?
That's interesting. I'm on my second year with them, just had two more teeth removed taking my total teeth extracted for the process to 13, my mouths in constant pain with the alien feeling of metal in my mouth.
@J Fz You're lucky, I literally spent two weeks with a swollen jaw, living off Panadol and codeine. It was a full on surgery.
I love how much work and care you put into each video/creation
bruh, that is one THICCCCCC book!
Hi, a few days ago your video appeared in my Playlist and I Don t know why but I was really happy...
You do great things
Kisses from Rome
Love it, you're so talented. Painting, making books, whatever idea you come up with is always amazing.
Oh my god this book! it’s so beautiful 😍❤️ you really inspire me at art stuff and "crafting" (sorry for my english 🙈)
and btw I may get your jacket as a Christmas present :3
So great to see that the best of you work together, people like Nerdforge, Blackbeard and My Mechanics.I hope to see more of this cooperations.
I saw it post and clicked immediately
your work is astounding. wish i had known about you 15 years ago during my fine art degree, especially for my metalwork module. i am too old and ill now to make things like this. thank you so much for showing us beauty xxx
