Countryballs - History of Civil War in USA
The American Civil War is one of the most important events in the country's history. The cause of the war was not popular discontent or low standard of living as it happens in other countries, but the policy of slavery. In the northern states, slavery had long been abolished, but the southern states were in no hurry to do so. When slavery was to be banned nationwide, the southern states declared their sovereignty and formed the Confederate States of America (CSA). The Civil War began, and at first the Confederates won. Some countries such as Great Britain and Spain supported the CSA rebellion. However, the US also received support from Russia, France, Holland, etc. As a result, the northern army penetrated deep into the CSA and won the war. However, the CSA in turn left a mark on US history.

I thought the states of the West and some in the middle of the US weren't part of the USA and didn't joined the fight or lately.
And slavery was abolished in 1865 at the very end of the war no? It was not the cause of the begining of civil war. Am I wrong ?
Actually it wasn’t abolished until 1866. They passed the abolishment in 1865 as a military tactic like emancipation proclamation in 1863. The proclamation only freed slaves in the confederacy but not Union states or Union occupied territories at that point so the Union had 8 slave states in 1864. The war was about nationalism and patriotism and limited government and not losing states. Slavery was only a political issue, not what people died for.
