    How clever!!
I just got my first art toolkit palette & I got extra pans. I love that I can swap them in and out and this is such a good idea to store them!

That's a clever repurposing! Early in my watercolor journey, I used an old eyeshadow compact with six pans/wells, but this looks much more useable and versatil. 👍

If you want a mixing tray cover the mirror with some white vinyl contact paper.

Love this idea! My Art Toolkit “collection” is just starting to grow and it would be nice to manage the extra pans in a way that they won’t get wasted (if I can easily see/access, I’ll use!).

Easy access and see-ability were top motivators for me in making this pan storage solution. I found I had multiple of the same colours poured in some pans, so I was clearly not finding what I already had. It's much easier this way!

You can also buy empty magnetic makeup pans in different sizes! Way cheaper than the Art Toolkit ones. They're almost all the same thickness, I've only found one style that's deeper. The standard is 3 mm (3.2 or something, I think, but they're all the same) except for one style of square pans that are 5 mm. I don't think the Art Toolkit palettes have that wiggle room.
Just make sure you get the magnetic ones, there are non-magnetic pans as well.
I actually *want* the deeper ones, I have a different palette that's 6 mm deep on the inside (enough to fit plastic quarter pans), but they don't seem to exist 🤷‍♀️
I'm getting some larger pans next, full pan size/area.

Yes, those are good options; I just would worry that they aren't rust resistant? Let me know if you find them. Thanks!

@@JCLittle I've used a couple so far with no issue, but I did also buy some enamel spray paint to cover the pans in if needed. And it's white, so I can make some mixing trays from the larger pans as well.

    What material is this case?

It seems to be some sort of plastic vinyl wrapped around stiff cardboard.
