My brakes are horrible in reverse. It doesn't matter if they are hot or cold, they scream. I'm towing my 18x7 enclosed motorcycle trailer with mine and it does great. Thanks.
Luv the towing test!! Yay. Really like the built in brake controller and that it turns off all the warnings when it detects a trailer. Very cool. 15.6 MPG isn't so great. I get 20 MPG towing a popup trailer in my Turbo Wrangler with 33's.
I had a 2023 Tundra Platinum and the brakes were squealing not squeaking! It was literally yelling and it never really went away. It was good in some days and it was embarrassing other days. Loved that truck but Toyota def had to fine tune the new gen
Pretty decent. Pulling my little teardrop trailer - 2200 lbs with a rooftop tent - I can get 14-15 mpg on our 4runner. This coming weekend will be the first time towing it with my new Tacoma. Here is hoping for similar results! I do wish they had managed to get the trailer electrical connection in a better spot. I hate where it is on the 4runner and was one of the reasons I chose the Tacoma over a 1958.
I only get squeaking sound in reverse when the brakes are wet. Now what’s more annoying is the rattle sound when the truck is still cold you hear that sound upon acceleration low rpm.
Did Boulder to Colorado Springs and back last weekend and ended with ~28.5 mpg round trip averaging 70 mpg on the interstate. Struggled to get more than 21 for the first 1500 miles but am consistently getting reported or better now. Not sure if my driving has changed by watching the trip mpg or the LC has broken in. Maybe both.
The GXs are having the same issue. They replaced a full brake system on one here recently. But Toyota/Lexus are preparing a recall for it according to one of their engineers.
Thanks for your video helpful to know the towing menus and mpg wasn't as bad as thought. One quirk in my LC notice is hangs at 3K rpm in mid throttle input in 3rd sometimes going up a hill 15-30 mph . At first I thought it was it was the TC slipping but I believe its a hybrid thing as the speed is increasing while the rpm hangs figuring what to do. Instead of downshifting it stays in 3rd and maybe brings the electric motor over the top which sounds like slipping in comparison to a zf transmission that I'm used to? In your video see your tac did it when towing from a stop (tow load similar to a hill with mid throttle input). Curious if you noticed this and does the Tacoma that doesn't have the hybrid do the 3K rev hang? I guess its better than the previous gen gear hunter?
@@TRDJon I have a 2024 SR5 Sequoia. Every single time the brakes are cold they get that horrible noise. Did you had the same issue with your TRD Sequoia?
Hi Jon great videos just a quick question when towing the trailer when you put on your turn signal / indicater do you hear a secondary beeper / buzzer in the back of the Land Cruiser this may only be so in Europe/UK Plus what rear sensors disable when towing automaticly ?? for reversing Isee theres a picture of the car with trailer on the dash Sorry it was a quick question but got bigger Kind regards Dave in the UK
Towed an enclosed trailer with my LC the other week, blindspot monitor was a pain in the butt too, every time I signalled it would play an alert thinking there was a vehicle there. Thankfully I don’t tow often but it’s definitely annoying.
As an engineer, if you apply proper scientific principles and employ only the finest logic and round up, then I nailed it 😂 16mpg. But that squeak sucks.
I have some Land Cruiser and pulled a small trailer, I felt it also in the seat, I was wondering if it’s the tongue weight on the rear tires? Seems like it was a tiny worse on bumpy roads is why maybe I was thinking the tongue weight in back tires, my tires were at stock pressures also, I wonder if you went up to max pressure if it would make a difference?? Thanks for the video
@@TRDJon yah but I wouldn't buy this as a towing rig. Occasional tow sure.. Good to learn what it can and cannot do though. Good info. I saw one in person the other day. Looked pretty cool outside. But inside looked/felt cheap. More like the FJ vibe than the old Land Cruiser.
@@TRDJon Yeah it's pretty silly for how much these vehicles cost, it also points to not doing lots of real world testing IMO....or the quality folks just didn't care. Regarding towing. My neighbor has the same LC you have and tows a fairly large rectangle trailer for his son (dirt bikes), he really likes it, said it tows great/feels great, he was pleasantly surprised.
Ps the longer you wait on your solar panels and charger the cheaper they will be. If you can just camp old school with Ice these jackeries will be 1/2 the price and last 20 times longer in 5 years
That was the last ad integration I had that was an agreed 3 ish mins spread out in a video. Moving forward they will be shorter. Helps pay the car bills though. Thanks for watching!
First off, Land Cruisers, and for the sake of argument, 4Runners, are not tow vehicles. They have the ability to tow, which is good for occasional use. But if you are buying one of these to tow and then critiquing them on their towing ability you will be disappointed. If you are going to be doing a lot of towing, buy a truck, a half ton truck like a Tundra or F150. I have towed occasionally with my 2016 4Runner. It was able to do so within its capability limit but is not something I would want to do on a regular basis. It was not an ideal situation. I'd rather drive it fully loaded with people and cargo with a full roof rack than tow with it.
This is a 3K lb trailer which is half the max weight of this vehicle. So more than capable to tow this or other small trailers for things you may need.

I have a Jackery 1000w. I have camped for weeks with no hook ups and have powered our Iceco no problem. The solar panels do a great job of recharging.
Love to hear that! Putting it to the test this weekend at Expo

Good video. I’d be curious to more on the GX550 with the same load.
You and me both! I like that you were able to do both with the same exact trailer too!
I had a 2023 Tundra Platinum and the brakes were squealing not squeaking! It was literally yelling and it never really went away. It was good in some days and it was embarrassing other days. Loved that truck but Toyota def had to fine tune the new gen
My 5th gen 4runner does that, But on cold brakes, I have upgraded them, mine sounds like a race car. 😂

Man the trailer connector on the 4R is horrible right? Haha
I have a tundra hybrid. I’ve never had that squeak on start up. I have to reverse out of my garage every time.
Nice! Yea there is a TSB for it if you have those issues. Glad your truck doesn’t do it.
lots of us are having the squeeking brakes in reverse... according to the forums.

Hi Jon. Have you heard anything from Toyota about fixing that squelching sound on braking?
Not yet for this.

I did not actually.

My 2007 FJ Cruisers brakes squeal in reverse - only when cold.
I wonder how your 4Runner would do towing the same trailer on the same route. I bet it would be comparable.
It probably would be around the 14 ish I’d say. It’s only getting 17-18 currently
10:06 now THAT guy, pulling your trailer, would not feel the trailer. :)
BIG FACTS

Oh that’s a weird thing to happen too. Interesting.
I haven’t heard any movies and I have 5k miles now.
Btw.. got 24.2 mpg on the highway trip recently. 70+ mph
Nice!!! That’s solid!
Ours dose the same thing I was going to ask them and see what they thought was the problem
Let me know if you find out.
That's what my 22 Tundra did that and they never had a fix for it. It was bad
There is a TSB out now for it
How do you like the trailer.

lol 😂 love it hahahah
cool review
Thanks man.
That squealing sound in reverse "sounds" like your brake pads, normal sound when the edges of the brake pads haven't been trimmed. Take Care.
Thanks! Hopefully the dealer fixes that if that’s the case. I appreciate it.
@TRDJon Hopefully it is as well, it isn't a final conclusion but a starting point.😊
Mine is squeaking in reverse as well.
So annoying.
my GX550 also squeeks in reverse.
I had a press GX and it was doing. I let my contact know. So hopefully there is a fix soon.
Hey Jon what cámara do you use to make your videos ?
Hey man. I use a DJI osmo pocket 3 and my iPhone 14 Pro
Could the brake noise be related to auto parking brake? Wondering if turning auto parking break off would help?
Hmmmmm interesting. I will see

Is your mpg lower?
Getting like 20-23. But when I fill up only can get up to around 295 miles left. I don’t understand how that can be
The computer will say less but increase over time too

Some on my community tab were expecting way less. 9 mpg what some were guessing.
