I’m SO happy to see you teaching to pull threads to the back instead of backstitching. I was taught to do it like this way back in middle school home economics, and I think it looks so much more professional.
I always say that Jess has an amazing knack of talking to you like you’re an idiot without making you feel like one. I need all the steps and to know the things that can and will go wrong.
@@hannahjean9420 same ! I found her by accident and she inspired me to buy a sewing machine and give it another try! It’s been amazing having her with me through the journey :)
really cute! i would add a snap tab to keep the cards in their slots and FOR SURE add a break away clasp if you are making a lanyard. they are inexpensive but make it much safer, especially for kids.
It’s like you reached into my brain and pulled out the next project on my to-do list! The kids have new school bus passes, and believe me, they are bound to get lost. THIS is what I was about to make! Perfect timing. Thanks for the tutorial!!
I really love it when you leave in your videos any "challenging moments" or "design opportunities" as my mother calls them. Everyone has them but we tend to think its only us! I love this one, I have been watching but not making. I think this is "The One"
I love the pattern----great video!! For the fabric hack, as with the purse pal, I do mine a little differently.....instead of fusing decovil heavy to the fabric, I use Pellon Ultra-Firm or Peltex without fusible and then put heat and bond on the fabric instead all the way to the edges. I fuse the fabric over the Ultra-Firm/Peltex and am then able to fold the fabric edges to the back and iron them down instead of having to use the glue stick. I think it is easier, quicker and holds better by fusing the raw edges to the back than the glue stick method. I've been using this hack for the outer and lining fabrics on my purse pals zipper pocket and it works fantastic.
Awesome video. Cute project but I wonder about the card slots getting loose over time and cards falling out without some kind of a snap strap over the cards to help keep them secure a little more.
I think it would depend on the material and how much stretch and abuse the item takes. I have one similar I made on an embroidery machine with faux leather. ID pocket, with card slots on a lanyard that I use and abuse all day long. I overstuffed the card slots and I have noticed they will stretch out more to accomidate more items, but so far no card has fallen out. I've been using it for about two years daily now. Not sure if that helps but wanted to give it a shot :)
I made one yesterday and created a little tab for it like a purse and pocket pal patterns. It works great but I found it unnecessary as I sewed the card pockets so tight nothing will ever slip out lol! But it’s definitely doable and looks super cute.
I would use clear iron on vinyl on the quilt cotton. I've done this on a few projects and it works rather well. I would also put a snap tab over the card slots end to make them more secure. Love your videos and Sally Tomato products.
Love this😍 I bought this pattern a few weeks ago and I can't stop making them(super fun🙂) I'm excited to try a cotton version😉Thank you for sharing and as always stay well
I was in Joann's the other day, not today or tomorrow, but the other day....lol....anywho, they had in their clearance bin, a roll of clear vinyl and I almost got it just because of you my dear 😊
Great video ! Thank you , just a suggestion on the cork one I think I would use the HTV too just to have a backing ( just like the hack on Purse pall ) ! Just a thought!
You do NOT have a big head, silly!!! Thanks for another great video! I ordered the pattern. I’d love to see you do a tutorial for Daisy someday. Reminds me of the train cases my grandma used to carry!!
I kinda lucked out with this one! I've been staring at this pattern I purchased at the beginning of the month. This is like an ultra-scrappy project. I'm also digging these hacks. Thanks again for your inspiration and great tips. I just might make a bunch to give away to my teacher friends and their students. It's a double-win if I can get rid of some of these scraps lol
just made my first one last night. a little wonky in some places and the I'd pocket is a little tight but I'm happy with it. going to try the fabric hack next
Hi Jess- I love your videos...I have yet to attempt any bag patterns without your tutorial. I recently purchased Sallie Tomato Tripper backpack but I'm so nervous to attempt without one of your awesome videos!
You definitely can, but if you put it in the same spot as the d-ring strap it could get bulky. We would want to move the d-ring strap over so we could center the credit card flap. Great suggestion!
Make the d ring strap longer. Stitch the front side in the wallet, insert the strap through the d ring, then fold down and stitch again on the back side. Then add snap tab. Make sense? Alternatively could use a rivet.
Hello Jess, I love your videos and way of teaching you are so good at explaining and easy to follow. Sally Tomato has a new travel wallet called Galaxy. It is good for passports. I would love to see you do a tutorial on it!
Love this video. I’ll definitely make at least one. I do have a suggestion if making for children. Use a breakaway clasp on the lanyard. Otherwise, it can be a strangulation hazard. Just my ER nursing experience.
Another great tutorial Jess! I’ve made 3 of these so far. Trying to get a jumpstart on Xmas gifts for next year… if I don’t get too excited and gift ahead of time. 🤣. Would love to see you do a tutorial on the Sallie Tomato Galaxy pattern.
When you sewed the lanyard ends together, I would have purposely turned one end to make it a Moebius. It would hang better around your neck. I think I’m going to go get the pattern now.
Jess, you used the cutest Disney theme fabrics in your videos. Would you please share the sources? I am a big fan and I watched all of your videos on RUclips, several times when I make the bags. TYIA!
Hi there…. I love your videos!! You are always my number one you tuber to watch any bag tutorials. So thanks for being awesome! I want to know….Where do you get your name tag?
Hi Jess I wasn’t sure best way to get my request to you so I just am commenting on this video. I really value your videos. I learn so much from watching you go thru making a bag step by step. I would be most grateful if you could find time to do a video for the Aurora Triple Zip Crossbody Bag by A Quaint Stitch. There is only one out there by Seams Legit. I watch her videos all the time but with this one she doesn’t follow the pattern much and I cannot figure out what I need to do in some areas. The written instructions are not real clear to me in certain areas. I hope you will consider my request as I do value your helpful tutorials. Thanks for listening. Suzanne
So I just looked up the pattern, and WOW it’s a stunning bag! I’ll take a look at the pattern and if I can work through it, I’ll reach out the designer and see if we can get a tutorial for it. Thanks for asking!
This would be great for my work ID badge, but even more important right now (since I'm working from home and don't need to show my work badge) would be to use this for my COVID vaccination card. As more places are requiring proof of vaccine for entry, how would I improvise it to accommodate the 3" x 4" vaccine card, yet still have the slots for credit cards? I'm very beginner level and not sure what size I should cut. Thanks, Jess! Love your channel!
If you haven't made the Linds handmade slim sling, could you please please please I learn best from you and how you film!! If you've already made it, could you direct me in the way to go😊
Hello Mme Jess oklaroots .I have bought the pattern ,and it is not clear at all.so I don’t understand what is piece a and piece b.please send me some information about this.thank you.
Those card pockets would leave your credit cards vulnerable to card readers. I was a victim of a card reader, my card was in my wallet and my wallet was in my purse but they were able to read the info on the card and cleaned out my bank account. Since then, I always make sure any wallet I make has RFID fabric protection.
I’m SO happy to see you teaching to pull threads to the back instead of backstitching. I was taught to do it like this way back in middle school home economics, and I think it looks so much more professional.

What a fun quick project. Thanks Jess!!
Love this tutorial. Do you think the pattern would work with waterproof canvas? I have a lot of leftover fabric. And should I make any modifications?
Linds Handmade has a great video & trick on making lanyard straps that go with her new pattern, Piper ID Holder. I really like how she did hers too.
Such a cute idea! Thank you for posting this video!
Super cute 😍 and essential for work for the ID. I need one for myself. I know another of ppl would like one. Great gift idea. Thank u Jess!

Would love to see how you attache the zipper pulls to the zipper tape. I struggle with that so I stay away from that type of zipper instillation.
I need to put together a video for just this. It’s hard to zoom in enough to show it, but really it just takes practice.
Not sure I would want my cards exposed in the back slots. Am I the only one worried about that? Thank you Jess, as always great tutorial.
So perfect for nurse id, are you able to wipe cork with disinfectant?
Hello can I cut the pieces for the id holiday and the card slots on a cricut machine?
Many thanks

Where do you get your heat transfer vinyl
Question, where do you get that pink metal clamper that’s beside your little pumpkin?
Hi! The vinyl is different from faux leather? 😊
The children will go back to school in style! It’s also good if you put it around your neck with a covid ID at the airport.
Would there be any way to make another zipper pocket instead of the card slots?
What sewing machine and presser foot do you use? It gives you a perfect 1/8".

Good tutorial. Waaaaay too many ads!
Hear me out.. make it a little bit bigger.. and add a snap tab to it so the cards don’t fly out..

Right! Just size it up a bit.
I agree! It’s an easy pattern to adjust (currently it’s too small for the card)
