      average dominican is 7% average pr is only 15%dont listen to this guy learn about genetics a bit yourself. also 61 % of pr has taino direct ancestry via mother side called mtdna. only 15% of dominicans have amerindian mtdna. y-dna is almost non existant in both but they are rare people who carry it. i dont. and i dont think no one in my pr family did either even though her brothers looked very amerindians like a peruvian when they were children

      There were many sub tribes that as a collective, made up the Tainos. Europeans gave us that name, it means “good and noble ppl”. I read that in Puerto Rico, there were 24 original tribes that made up the Taino faction there. But, as I also learned, there were many in Santo Domingo, Jamaica, Haiti and other parts. And they knew that their brothers were on other islands, they were very much aware. Love our history 💯

      Destiny Rivera dude for real? Black roots are already everywhere dumbass. They don’t “force” their way in because they’re already there. You know Africans were brought to the Caribbean‘s and the taínos that didn’t die or run away got mixed with the Africans. So whether you like it or not and whether you’re “Afro Latino” or just Latino you still have a pretty decent amount of African lineage inside of you and all Latinos do.

    Ever since having my sun I’ve been drawn to finding out who I really am. One day me and him where just listening to Native American powwow music and in my mind I was like I wonder if there’s any such thing as Taino music so I looked it up and came to this video. That was about 2 months ago. Now my sun is 3 months old and on days like today when he’s really cranky I play this song repeatedly and try to sing the words I know to him because it seems to calm him deep within. I wish I could find out more about our ancestors and Taino roots so I could teach these things to him as he grows up. We are Puerto Rican btw and we both want to thank you for creating this amazing song you don’t know how important it truly is to us

    Being half Puerto Rican, I did a DNA test to see how much Taino is in me. Regretably, it's only 8% (and a surprising 9% West African?). Perhaps it was foolish of me to expect anything different. Looking at the genetic makeup of the average Puerto Rican, these results are completely in line with someone who's half. As much as I would love to, with numbers that low there's no way I could rightfully say that I *am* a Taino. I must simply accept that I am a product of colonialism.

      The West African DNA likely stems from African slaves who were brought to the island in 1513 after the Tainos revolted against their slavers and the repartimiento system became encomiendas. You are more than right to be proud of your heritage, and even though you might not start checking off "Native American" on a census, you can still be proud and vocal about your Taino blood!

      That’s actually a lot for a half Puerto Rican. I’m full Puerto Rican, and have the same exact amount as you. Most Puerto Ricans have around 10-15% Native ancestry, and in a lot of cases less than that. The Taíno Indians were wiped out more often than assimilated, so Puerto Ricans don’t have as much Amerindian DNA as other Hispanics. There are no people left who are DNA-wise, significantly Taíno

      @ThePaganSun 4 года назад +1

      @@theGnostic- Yeah, but we still have the highest indigenous blood in the Caribbean. But most Taínos were wiped out due to disease although many did survive and intermarry with the Spanish and Africans. 10%-15% is a very big and significant chunk of admixture.

      I'm full and unfortunately I only have like 5% Amazonian Tribe ( dependents of where the tainos came from in South America) i was sad to see it so low , I was raised embracing my Taino Culture and I will continue to do so . I found of that most part of my Native is actually Nahuatl from Mexico . . I was so confused being 100% Puerto Rican for all I knew but I was very excited to know im still very indigenous.
