Nice job with your information. I recently cut the cord and discontinued Spectrum Cable TV. Both your RUclips chanel and website have been extremely helpful. I have both Roku TCL and Apple Tv 4k device on anot h er TV. I prefer the Roku my only regret is I didn't do this year's ago. Thanks again for your help. Who do u get your wifi from, in order to watch your Roku TV?
I really like the smartphone app. I can turn down the living room TV from my bedroom if my kids are playing it too loud.
I cancelled my Roku account. I haven't used it in years anyway and between their requiring you to agree to their terms and conditions under threat of being deprived of your right to use the streaming device that you bought and paid for doesn't sit well with me and then a data breach that started in December of last year and went through Feb. of this year according to CNET.
As a red hat hacker I can say that you can sent a simple curl code to the tv via ip and you can port the ip to other people to hack. You can play videos with a curl code and I even built my own application with the roku api. It will still allow someone to hack your TV and even play videos and could harm children
Woke up in the middle of the night to my Roku being turned on and having someone scroll through my settings scared me so bad I unplugged all my devices for a good 2 days. Also for a couple days now I’ve been turning on my TV to seeing my Roku screen being where you have to enter a pin to add a channel....it’s literally so annoying, hopefully these tips help. Also I don’t have control of my network as I’m on my university’s WiFi 🙃
Someone on your University WiFi saw your open Roku and casually attacked it. Your network cannot be trusted, so all network control on your device should be locked down.
Factory Reset your device and set up a pin for settings changes, and only allow your devices to cast to it, before adding it back on the network.

Just have a strong WiFi password and don't just give it out. I agree it's super useful, I use it with my LG TV (although not roku, very similar).
his suggestion to disable it through network connection is also wrong...something else is happening....obviously there is more than 1 way they are doing it...
Someone somehow got my IP I had to block access from my tv. They were turning it on and off and searching up dirty things on RUclips and turning up volume to 100. Thank you. 🙏

Yes mine was definitely hacked thats why i looked you up. One day it was working then doing everything it shouldn't be doing. It was because of a network hack.
.... just bought a roku, used the app (to control my roku from my phone) and repeatedly it asked which roku I wanted to use, like ASKING if I want to hack into another person’s rokue, it’s that easy.., and at 5am, what happens? My tv suddenly turns on and I see someone trying to log into netflix... so I shut the power strip off powering my roku and go back to sleep. This is ridiculous.
Someone is using your WiFi network change the password.
I live with many people... they could have literally done it by accident (we share one wifi), I almost clicked on the one other roku on our wifi... I changed the name of my roku to help avoid the accident loggin to my machine... so someone hacking our wifi is not the only possibility, let alone that it was nefarious intentions of someone not living in our home. But I do plan on talking to the landlord about changing it in case...

so what do you do if they are hacking your router to get to your devices?
Basically the only thing you can do is get a better router with more updated security features. Unless your password was just really weak, in which case just use a better password. Not a lot more you can do to secure wifi.
I have noticed that the sling app for my samsung smart tv has changed in the last week. I can view channel listings in both grid and channel now, before this I could just view channels. Do you know if the DVR is now available on samsung smart tv's?
If someone has your wifi password without your permission then controlling your roku is the least of your problems.
Unless that screen data collection business is somehow abused... Especially if you use it as a computer monitor occasionally, or if it has permission to connect to your phone...

Sadly, this guy is not a hacker, and didn't consult with one, so how could he know what might happen, based on Roku's word?

I got a notification on my phone for RUclips, I selected it and it automatically linked with my Roku. It didn't get to see it. It seems not in my accounts history. My RUclips app on my phone I had to re install be cause it crashed. Either I've been hacked or a strange coincidence. I don't give my pword away and my wifi router is only good for 100 feet. So wood the hacker have to be right next door to me?
They wouldn't have to be your neighbor, and may even be able to use your neighbor's WiFi router (in some cases) to access yours, if your neighbor's computer were compromised.
This is the last time I try to do anything off RUclips channels and froze up my TV and now I can't do anything with it
I have been hacked almost $300 has been taken out of my bank account for apps I didn’t subscribe to other stuff like roku tv utilities for forty bucks and I did not give out my Wi-Fi password. I had reported to Roku & they have no idea where the charges came from I’m afraid I won’t get my money back. I had to close out my bank account. Will Roku refund me back my money
CNET has an article on this. Roku accounts were hacked from December of last year through February of this year.
I am currently getting targeting network attack on my Roku ultra and I even bought a new 2020 Ultra. My xfinity app tells me it is getting infected with a. Virus and is trying to attack other networks please help!

@@holy.eliiii , well I have a TCL television that has the option in settings to allow smartphones and other devices, like tablets to control it, so you have to disable that option in the settings.
what if I don't use the app? and we have a strong password and in the country so I'm not sure how someone would have hackour wifi. help? someone was streaming a channel called "filmrise" i havent used my roku in days and this was playing when i flipped to the hdmi
roku has been hacked it's probably not anything related to your wifi. they can control my tv even with my router turned off so its not just caused by rtr being hacked.

two words... "guest network" most modern routers these days do support this.
guest networks are just as bad roku isnt a worry but anyone can get on it never have an unprotected network in the country a thing that has started happening is kids drive around until they find a unprotected network and they do a bunch of illegal stuff on it.
On guest networks firewall settings restrict access to only the internet by default. They don't allow for access to other devices on the guest network or any other network. And yes protect all your wireless networks with a password even the guest network.
