I did pick up on the potential for that storyline about 3/4 into the movie they had a moment where I picked up that vibe. However I took it more as she’s completely alone and actually sees him as a brother, because we learned at the beginning of the film that both of her parents have died. However I can see why Grace and others were getting romantic vibes, because it kinda would match the twisted creepy alien baby that ended up happening so I kinda like it lol.
I felt so bad for Isabella’s character i think she suffered the most and movie just kept torturing her. Travel sickness, traumatic death of her friend (that she had no idea what was happening cause she was resting), getting stabbed by the xeno and cocooned, witnessing her brothers death to later making her believe she was safe to then painfully give REAL birth to a xenobaby hybrid to THEN finally die by essentially feeding her newborn. Wow… that was messed up

The blue light is in the original movie covering the eggs. Also the Xeno that saves Rain doesn’t kill her because it wanted to impregnate her, you can see the face hugger sneaking in the corner.
Let’s go ! I loved Romulus. It was the right amounts of Prometheus and alien that this really worked for me. The zero gravity acid blood and Andy as a synthetic were my stand outs. I felt there was enough new material mixed with old that it was refreshing and nostalgic. Loved it
I love how the hybrid felt like such a freak accident, with how her being pregnant + injecting a bioengineered version of the parasite resulted in that thing being created. It was nightmarish seeing her play hot potato with it and throwing it in the corridor, and it’s peeling, and it melting through the floor to get it to a safe place as a defense mechanism so it can grow. SICK. 10/10.
Yea I’ve not seen a lot of Fede’s work aside from Evil Dead, but I’m starting to see a pattern where things happen because there was a clear issue and logical motivations and decisions were established to push the story forward rather than just, “oh it is what it is”. Which I think is why we just enjoy the movie so much.

I wish Kay had survived the movie because I think there could’ve been development in her story since she injected herself with that goo. I think it would’ve been more impactful for her to survive and recover from that pregnancy and show the effects of the goo in a sequel.
The scarred xenomorph seemed more interested in salvaging bodies and abducting hosts for the face-huggers. It didn’t kill Rain because there was a face-hugger about to attack her.

I liked the movie a lot, just wish we had more time with with main cast before the plot kicked in. In both Alien and Aliens we get to see the characters having a meal, joking, and interacting with each other, this really helped in setting up the dynamic of the characters in regards to each other and flash out their personalities.
The alien that caught the the MC in the elevator shaft confused me at first too. But the reason why it didn't kill her was because the alien was going to use her for reproduction rather than killing her for food or fun.
Grace don’t forget the hybrid looked like an Engineer! The callbacks to the best and most intriguing part of Prometheus/Covenant was great! The black goo, the cylinder, even down to bleeding those facehuggers in that tank. Just how the Engineers worshipped and bled that original deacon alien which was their source of black goo.

This was a GREAT MOVIE!! Bringing the horror back to the Aliens' franchise was well done. The past few movies went away from the horror elements so I was pleasantly surprised.
The xenomorph didn't kill Rain because it's a drone. It's job is to get hosts for implantation. Rain was going to be another host for an alien. That's why it didn't kill her.
The blue light field as an element has been there since the first Alien movie. Probably there to activate the eggs when it gets breached. I heard somewhere that they originally wanted to use webbing or membrane in the first film but cannot get it to look good. They then borrowed the laser light from The Who concert nearby and fitted some smoke machines and walah! creepy sci fi light effect. This light field on the floor is absolutely creepy and iconic.
Watched this with my dad today, we both LOVED IT! But I have to admit, with me being a 2000s kid who grew up with this franchise, I really do think it's time for another ALIENS VS PREDATOR movie!!! We're living in an age where the most recent Predator (PREY) and Alien (ROMULUS) solo films were great, why not bring them together once more with the great minds behind both films?
I enjoyed Alien Romulus from an entertainment standpoint barely. There was nothing original about this movie and the characters were not that competent. I'd argue that were not even smart and as much as I love parts of this movie, it honestly felt like a recreation of the first 4 Alien movies. I wasn't even surprised about the third act. I absolutely saw that coming.
My friend and I loved this film! For any fan of the long series, there was a clear love and respect for the source material. Great writing, photography, direction and cast. Thank you, Grace, for your thoughtful reviews!
I loved this movie! I recently rewatched the other Alien movies (to prepare for this one) and to me it's up there with Aliens. The music score, the visuals, the action... As a horror/scifi fan, I think this is one of the best movies of 2024.

I enjoyed Alien Romulus from an entertainment standpoint barely. There was nothing original about this movie and the characters were not that competent. I'd argue that were not even smart and as much as I love parts of this movie, it honestly felt like a recreation of the first 4 Alien movies. I wasn't even surprised about the third act. I absolutely saw that coming.
No one is talking about how if the recovered big chap they can also recover the QUEEN from Aliens.
My friend and I loved this film! For any fan of the long series, there was a clear love and respect for the source material. Great writing, photography, direction and cast. Thank you, Grace, for your thoughtful reviews!

I did not pick up on a romantic relationship at ALL. They were brother and sister. It reminded of my own relationship with my sister. Really great.
I swear in the movie I heard Rain call Isabela Merced's character Izzy at one point ! And I was like wow ! They left that in ?

I loved this movie! I recently rewatched the other Alien movies (to prepare for this one) and to me it's up there with Aliens. The music score, the visuals, the action... As a horror/scifi fan, I think this is one of the best movies of 2024.
