Unfortunately could not find live recordings of Kissin or Bronfman. I don’t care about studio recordings for this because they are all engineered to be perfect

It's refreshing, for an art that demands perfection, to watch two staight minutes of some of the greats f***ing it up.
It's not that bad compared with the ending of the second movement of the Schumann Fantasy op. 17 😂
@@benharmonics do you know we're I can find videos of Horowitz etc. Fucking the ending of the fantasy up? I know they did it but I don't know where to find the footage
@@Bohh574 There’s no actual footage on RUclips of Horowitz playing the Schumann Fantasy op. 17, although there are recordings of Horowitz playing it. In fact, I was only able to find seven actual videos on RUclips of people playing the piece:
Anna Fedorova: ruclips.net/video/z3ajUKSkO_4/видео.html
Yeol Eum Son: ruclips.net/video/ZRZjHKX-JMA/видео.html
Nelson Freire: ruclips.net/video/lEkQMymyAM0/видео.html
Kate Liu: ruclips.net/video/d-xHFWU_Qlw/видео.html
Alessandro Deljavan: ruclips.net/video/bcUojyayTB4/видео.html
Zeng Yi: ruclips.net/video/hvTUSkGkhbU/видео.html
Alexei Volodin: ruclips.net/video/uW8Hq9-Ax00/видео.html
You can find the timestamps in the comments and draw your own conclusions. Perhaps my earlier assessment was too harsh: some of them are a bit messy, but none of them butcher it. The worst version of that passage that I’ve heard was, surprisingly, by Volodos: ruclips.net/video/-lchsYp2soY/видео.html Even so, he only messes up one part.
@@benharmonics I just made a video on this hahahaha
😂😂😂😂
"To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable."
-Ludwig van Beethoven
Hilarious : The fact that none of the commenters agree, proves that... it doesn't matter
I love how Weissenberg is in a different key than everyone else 😂
I know! Old recordings haha
If it were black keys we leapt to, it sure would make it easier! Maybe someone should transpose it half a step lower?
@@danielgloverpiano7693 Exactly 😂
You know that that recording was sped up 🙄. That’s why it’s in a higher key. He played the same notes as everyone else. He must be eternally embarrassed by that, but he is totally entitled to the benefit of the doubt-it was, after all, the studio engineer who sped it up, and he went on a world tour to perform it live, where no engineer could speed it up-naked, so to speak.
@@musimedmusi8736 I also read that the video was later synched to his audio recording, which must have been edited to be so perfect. He was playing on a dummy keyboard for the actual video.
So, Weissenberg seems to be well played. Yeol Eum Son and Hoachen Zhang are well executed but Dennis Matsuev’s risk taking and fire is awesome for me. I always loved Alexander Toradze’s overall performance of this.
hearing matsuev makes me immediately want to hear his version
Toradze makes me wanna dance
I've always considered Yuja Wang's performance to be the best, but now seems like Yeoul Yem Son is the only one who played it crystal clear.
No weissenberg and matsuev take the title of best
Hello ! I suggest tha tyou listen to the first 30 seconds from wang and the first 30 from sokolov and you tell me who is the wizard ^^
If a tad slower… hehe
This is so encouraging to me: I thought I was the only one who couldn’t play it in performance with all the right notes. Good to know almost none of them did!! I’ve usually only listened to studio recordings of this. Someone needs to come up with a “cheat” for this so that it sounds good but not so treacherous. I can see why Rubinstein, who asked Stravinsky for this transcription, didn’t play it a lot.
I’ve played the original piano part with orchestra, and there are some things which are more difficult than the transcription, but this spot isn’t one of them.
Yes it is one of these moments that, especially in context (being pretty exhausted by the end of the piece and coming off of the hardest section of piano music ever written), it really is just a rude circus trick by Stravinsky that I LOVE because of how it just forces pianists to let loose and go wild!!
@@ArgerichStan yes indeed! And Stravinsky was actually a competent pianist. I think he knew what he was doing. Rubinstein did ask for a virtuoso work, and he got one!
I swear Stravinsky was just trolling Pianists when he wrote this lmao
I liked Berman Yuja and Toradze, but only from these clips. I like Pollini's recording.
I'm probably biased, but I love Sokolov's performance, they are so clean.
Weissenberg and Sokolov did it flawlessly!
My favorite is Weissenberg !
And he didn't use pedal
I like Weissenberg's version because it is very precise, the chords are played evenly without dynamics, almost mechanically, giving a much more rhythmic effect which only Sokolov and Pollini came close to achieve
There seemed to be more to Matsuev's performance than the rest. Maybe he threw in a few extra notes? Anyway the effect was astounding.
very powerful yes
For me, I like Yeol Eum Son the most, I like the deliberate and precise way she attacked the keys.
Pollini did the best recording ever in the 70's 😎
It is amazing but it’s not live! Hence why it’s not on here
@@ArgerichStan oh, I see.....great video 😁
@@ArgerichStan is the Weissenberg live ? I think he’s miming to a recording he made of it , which detracts in no way from how masterful and original his conception is.
The word best is so personal and misleading. I had the opportunity to witness a very youg Yefim Bronfman almost crush our piano in an unforgettable version of this work. It remains my best memory of a living performance of Petrouchka. Was it the objective best? impossible to assert.
Ivo pogorelich 's version has such excellent depth and power, I feel.
despite being more accident-prone, as an entity Gilels is one of my favourites for poetry and giving a fresh perspective on the piece.
My personal favorite is Pollini. There were several who performed equally well to each other (and here personal preference comes in). But without naming names, there were a couple who *didnt* perform them as well as the others. But we’re talking about a matter of degrees here.
*didn’t.
wow toradze's is crisp af
LOL "Stravinsky was RUDE for writing this". I love that :D
Weissenberg, not only for these leaps but the entire piece. Yeol Eum Son also!
This is when you say Hail Mary as you play the outer chords.
Weissenberg and pollini
Weissemberg the BEST
Lol the Emil Gilels is pure tension
Un no senso guardare solo i salti in petruska! In live la più grande esecuzione Emil Gilels! Ma non per i salti! Ma per tutto il resto!
Pollini
We know that the Weisenberg recording was sped up 🙄.
But this recording of Weissennerg isnt live, its a studio film, besides it was a pisno without string to be film all those shoots, he was recording using playback
How Khatia B has gained the recognition she has, is to me a riddle 🤔
I don't like her but what was wrong about her in this clip?
Matsuev plays leaps the best, but overall sokolov plays petrouchka by far the best.
The Weissenberg one wasn’t live! LOL if the recording were in the correct key that would be my favorite.
Yeah Weisenberg is fun to watch, but he's engaged in the piano equivalent of lip syncing. There's a detailed article about his whole film performance that's easy to find.
Yeol: PERFECT
Natalia: painful
It’s not because of the fact that it’s in a new key. Weissenberg’s performance just hits different.
I think I would get a headache if I had to listen to this constant pounding the whole day.
Do you have a studio recording of Bronfman playing the complete piece?
Alexander Toradze seemed the most musical to me
Matsuev rocked it by far
In my opinion Matsuev was the best. Not only did he hit all the correct notes, but he also played the performance with so much emotion!
He did nt hit all the right notes
Maurizioooooo!!!!!
He is beyond but his recording is not live!
Isn't live broadcast at Royal festival hall in 1991?
@@vespertine27 oh yes I have included that one! I’ve had other people ask about his famous studio recording
Matsuev felt particularly phenom
Where are the versions of Perahia, Pires and Schiff?
Feel free to add Modan Oyama to this video!
Toradze my favourite!
Honestly the wrong notes add to it.
I give that round to Denis Matsuev.
Pollini the best! 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎹🎶
Next video should be x pianists play the beginning chords of beethoven hammerklavier sonata
Denis Matsuev for me
Yuja Wang !!!
Weissenberg
The Weissenberg isn't live!
Denis Matsuev all the way
Weissenberg rules.
Katia Buniatishvili does it for me
trull
Denis Matsuev and Sokolov are the best
my vote will be matsuev, pollini and zhang
Even some of the best pianists in the world are making so many wrong notes on this piece
*KHATIA!*
Matsuev❤️💐
Matsuev, Sokolov & Pogorelic.
Matsuev is mad. He make accelerando in this place. Not enought difficulty for him
Khatia doesn't even play the chords, just the octaves :|
Il y a les musiciens et ceux qui essaient d'épater la galerie...
So basically it's unplayable.
Pogorelich for raw power, Matsuev for overall best (kind of disappointed, Sokolov should be the #1 in most circumstances but this is a pretty crazy passage so it’s up to whoever’s willing to take a chance). Khatia honorable mention
Sokolov.
He is my favorite pianist
I don't get it why no one is talking about Trifonov's performance. He literally nailed it (only 1 or 2 mistakes). In my opinion, he did it the most perfectly.
I agree 👌🏻
He also has more of a change in dynamics than most!
Khatia
Hands down Khatia Buniatishvili did it awesome!!!!
yeah, just holds down the pedal and plays it as loud and fast as possible. She is an absolute joke
Weissenberg for me.
Matsuev
Evil Pogorelich.
Interesting. I think I prefer Sokolov.
Pogorelich
How the hell you play that
You don't.
Typical for Buniatishvili to rush it unnecessarily and thus make more mistakes than anyone else lol
Alexis
Nig
Zhang has my vote. Too many artists turn the passage into mush with no musical substance at all😳
Und Trifonov trieft wieder vor Schweiss
Khatia for the win.
So no volume normalization? it's 2023 this was uploaded in 2022. If you have software to edit and stitch in each video clip then where's the normalization in audio? Please have respect for those wearing headphones, and listening through hardware that cost actual money. I cannot imagine the copyright strikes you received for some if not all of these recordings. Ripping off the original rights holders of each recording one at a time. I see no citation for any of them, just names of the performers. Thumb'd down.
Thank you flop ❤️
🤓
Мацуев просто псих. Он ещё ускоряет эти скачки, ему мало сложности. Перепрыгнул как нефиг делать. Мощный мужик
Ullman is without a single wrong note
That’s a Sony recording edited
