- In this moving and powerful talk, Sabah talks about his life as a transgender Muslim and how his different identities collide.
Sabah is a UK-based Pakistani trans activist with a passion for his communities. He co-founded Trans Pride Brighton in 2012: the first trans march and celebration in the UK, and started online social and support spaces for queer, trans, and intersex people of colour in Brighton (QTIPOC Brighton), and for LGBT and queer desi people in London and the South East (desiQ).

Such a beautiful person and story. It's so necessary for people to understand that we're all complex, multifacted beings with many layers of identity, all of which are true and valid and a part of us. It's also important for everyone to be mindful of how inclusive we're making our communities. Everyone can do their part to make others feel welcome in a new space, to help them feel like they belong. Sabah, thank you for sharing your story. You deserve all the happiness in the world.
I understand some in the Islamic community share your opinion, but you do not speak for all Muslims. No one does, and no one can. As you know, the over 1.5 billion Muslims in the world come from all different cultural backgrounds, with different opinions, different experiences, and so on. I personally have met many Muslims who are supportive of the LGBT+ comunity. You may not like it, but their opinion is just as valid. And it's not about being a party or a religion. It's about whether you respond to differences with fear and hate or love and understanding.
Actually it's haram to tell someone to leave Islam, no matter what your opinion. Being trans is biological (because of your brain structure) so of course Allah permits us to have a "cure".

Islam forbids homosexuality.
And if a person has desires/inclinations towards it. he treats it the same way he would with any other sinful desire, he objects to it and refrains himself from giving in to it.
if your self (you as a person/individual) is inclined towards such a matter, Islam teaches that you fight it (i,e you fight your own inner self and evil inclination). The biggest Jihad (Jihad means struggle) is against your own self. That is what Islam orders.
If you have an innate desire or inclination towards this sinful deed, it is upon you to try your best and exert effort in avoiding it for the sake of Allah. For this you will have reward.

It becomes more obvious with this talk that it was a mistake of the mother to put identical outfits/dresses on twins and treat the TWO as if they are ONE/inseparable from each other, as "the girls". Maybe other people around them made the same mistake. I see parents and other close ones of twins should respect the fact that twins are two separate persons and treat them accordingly. With all the twins I have met in my life, I can safely say however similar they may be physically, they are different in the personality. It seems that it was this person's reaction to that mistake to take the trans way. She may have simply tried to claim her individuality and difference from her twin sister from early childhood. If she were a boy, the difference would definitely be admitted, as she discovered at a young age. I hope she can see one day that she is sinning against her own soul. I believe it will be never too late. Also when we realize why what we did in the past is a sin and regret sincerely, that realization and regret brings us first hand knowledge and strength to avoid and protect ourselves from similar motivations in the future. Which I understand is why we are given the choice. So that whatever we are not sure of, we learn by trial and error.
