Carl 9-13 Hart Lane Hartlepool TS26 8RJ Came across a simple fix on a comment problem with these remote units, screen unreadable from delamination
Thanks for the fact you made an attempt at this so encouraging others to give it a go. What I would say is mine is a CM921 and I found these points: 1. The flap or switch cover does not need to be removed. 2. The back cover comes off really easily if the two slots, inside the battery compartment, are where you unclip the back. 3. I used wooden clothes pegs to put pressure on the screen as opposed to metal clamps which meant they didn't get as hot from the toaster and I could, after heating over the toaster, put additional pressure when removed from the toaster. 4. I had to go through the procedure 4 times before it finally worked - more to do with my concerns over the amount of heat needed. Persevere and you will be rewarded. 5. Watch out with the sliding switch for, off, man, auto, etc. as I found I needed to take the metal contact off the slider and bend the contacts out so they made good contact on reassembly. This may have been because I took it apart so many times. Once again thank you, saved me some money.
What I so so love about this video is that you’ve not done a “I am an expert” video !! From the difficulties in taking it apart from not working first time - This was just a pleasure to watch !! Can’t wait to try the repair for myself !
Thank you so much Carl, your the man. I followed your process through step by step. To be honest I was a bit nervous about the toaster bit but as you said I did it for 30 seconds. It was unsuccessful at first attempt, so I tried again but kept it on the toaster for 1 minute, it go very hot and I thought I’d boiled the scree! I let it cool right down and yes a perfect result all fully working now. 👍😉
Third time lucky! In the end I used some wooden pegs, two small G clamps and a hot air gun. I was careful not to over tighten clamps though. Many thanks. You've saved us many pounds.😊
Brilliant. I've had problems with my display for months. Watched this video and it does what it says on the tin... FIXED in 10 minutes. Like others have said, it did take me 2 attempts, but I have a fully working display now. Saved me a few quid, so thanks.
Just used this method now and the screen is fully working 100% again. My screen had fully delaminated, was just flapping about and there was no information on it at all. I had to “toast” mine for around total 3 mins in 45 second blocks, letting it cool right down before doing it again. Thanks for the helpful video!
Well done, very thorough, as I do similar repairs I find it best to video the whole disassembly process so I don't forget how to re assemble as I have the attention span of a gold fish, great to learn from you. cheers
Wow. Laughed so hard when you got the toaster out, but it actually worked great! Had to try 3 times to relaminate the screen, took a bit longer with my toaster. So Proud of myself for trying and succeeding 😊 And also glad to save 160 to 210 euro’s! Thanks for the great tutorial 😄
Amazing! I watched your video but I didn't have clamps and toaster so I used fabric gloves, fingers and hear dryer and it worked out 😂 Thank you very much 🍻
I wasn't sure about the toaster thing, and ended up being a bit tentative. But after giving it the full 30s right over the element, it worked a treat. Thanks.
Nice one. This actually works, maybe you have to give it a couple of goes depending on how bad your screen is, but definitely works. Saved myself a lot of money with this 😀👍
Thank you for this. It worked, and one of the displays was almost blank. If it helps others, I tried first with a 2kW hair dryer (as I thought the toaster was a bit hardcore), but didn't work. I suppose a hot gun would be needed to achieve the melting temperatures of the adhesive. Then I used the toaster technique. I did 30 seconds exactly as shown in the video followed by 20 seconds with the clamps at the corners. I am very pleased to say that it fixed both thermostats' displays and made me save 100 to 200+ GBP. Thank you very much indeed!
well its been about 10 months & mine has broke again so I will be taking it apart again a heating it up in the next mont or so, just in time for the cold weather, glad you got it fixed.
Made the same mistake in putting it together to quick but worked perfect the second time. Thanks so much for this. First class video Ps if you've no clamps like me. Use clothes pegs 👍
Thanks. Worked first time and restored screen fully! Only issue was it initially said the room temp was like 25 degrees haha but I think the screen just needed to cool down after it’s “sunbed” hahaha
I had a go too and after a few attempts I figured out it was the plastic ribbon cable coming away from the circuit board. Once the glass screen is flipped up off the white backing. Behind the white backing is where the cable is stuck to the circuit board running my finger across this to stick it back down fixed the issue. I think the heating and clapping probably achieves the same effect.
Our son used this method and although it did work initially the screen went again after 6 months and is now completely blank we can't read anything now so looks like a new thermostat will be needed.
The fron cover is hinged, just remove the batteries and with a flat blade screwdriver put into the corner slot and gently twist, do the other side as well and the cover will release onto its hinge Instead of a toaster use a hair dryer.
Thanks very much for the video, but your method didn't work for me. However the video prompted me to investigate further. There is a multi connection flexi film to connect the LCD to the PCB. These often become troublesome, particularly in Phillips DECT cordless phones. The fix which works for me is to use a hair drier on the flexi, then when it is as warm as you can stand, use your finger to run along the flexi and press it against the glass on the top side and do the same for the flexi to PCB connection. Maybe a plastic tool might be better, but I do a lot of welding and my fingers are a bit less sensitive to heat!!! I expect your clamp technique with the heat helped press the flexi against the PCB while warm. I was going to splash the cash on an internet heating controller until I saw this!
hi . I own a Honeywell ST9400C unit. The mode button on the heating side appears to be broken, and I am unable to switch between auto, once, cont, and so on. So far, I've just discovered that this button is broken. I can't tell whether it's a Honeywell issue because only one button isn't working. I'm trying to think of any other possibilities before purchasing one and replacing it. Have you ever had a problem like this with another Honeywell unit? Thank you very much
Hi there, hope your having a good day. So I have the exact same thermostat but the issue that I have is, sometimes when you pick it up or put it down the screen goes BLANK for a few seconds & sometimes the heating won't turn off, do u know what the issue could be?
I’ve tried your technique to fix mine, but it didn’t work. When I press on any of the panel buttons the screen goes blank. I then have to shake it to get the screen back which is very annoying. Anyone got ideas what the problem could be? The digital display is perfect otherwise..
i never tested that but worth a go, just put it on high setting it might take a little longer to heat up, i did the toaster for about 20-30 seconds, but i did it twice

Thank You.
I used little bulldog clips and a hairdryer for a while till screen darkened all over and it worked first time. Thanks.
Just wanted to say this is the second time I've used your video for this thermostat. Lifesaver. Thanks
Great video. I followed these instructions and used on an almost completely dead screen and brought it 100% back to life on the second attempt.

Shown nice and slow, really clear instructions, thank you. These new, are now up to £170.00!

Absolutely brilliant. Worked first time and just saved me £130.00. You’re on my Christmas card list.
I just took it apart and wasn't very confident putting it back together but now it works like new thanks mate

Thanks, this worked. Easy to follow along, you have great way of explaining. Saved me a lot of money!
I've just fixed mine and didn't have to pay 70 pounds for a new one. Thank you very much, you have all my respect.
i have just redone mine again as it only lasted about a year but still for cheaper than a new one haha
Wow. It actually works. I had to heat it it up twice. I actually saved £90, as I was about to buy a new one. Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you ! Just done mine, had to do it a few times but has worked a treat and saved me 💰
Method still works! Thank you 😊 I just forgot the “cool down” part the first time round... all ended well thankfully
Worked for me - thank you for explaining it so clearly

You've got the touch of a baby elephant I was shocked it was left in one piece

Yes! It actually worked! And that's from a tecno no hoper. Thank you so much🙂
You just saved me ~£100! Many thanks.
Quality, god bless You Tube and people like Carl !!
Thank you very much, saved me some money in 20 minutes 👍
Works after doing this THANKS A LOT FOR THE VIDEO WELL WORTH A TRY AND MONEY SAVED BRILLIANT!!!!

@@wrathofbod well, as long as I can push back the expense of buying a new one for a winter, it was already worth it! :)
i have just redone mine again as it only lasted about a year but still for cheaper than a new one haha
Thanks follow the instruction and fixed it first attempt and is working.
Brilliant, worked first time!!!
Omg thank you so much can’t believe this worked

A year will do me
You legend! Works a treat thanks mate
Very helpful video thank you 😊 🙏
Worked a great I have a display that makes sense again thank you
This worked for me. Thanks.

haha good. glad it helped
Sorted. Works perfect. Thanks.
Thanks, I'll give it a go. Even harder to get it fixed as in Portugal 😁
Worked.perfect! Thanks

merci, ça marche!
Thanks a lot it works!
Not bad. The correct way to open the back cover is via the clips inside the battery compartment. The top ones are actually hinges
Fantastic thank you
I was abit sceptical when it comes to the toaster bit. Did it anyway and boom!
Thank you!
Awesome!

try using a pencil rubber on the contacts under the buttons on the circuit board. or use switch cleaner?
Hi there, hope your having a good day.
So I have the exact same thermostat but the issue that I have is, sometimes when you pick it up or put it down the screen goes BLANK for a few seconds & sometimes the heating won't turn off, do u know what the issue could be?
Sorry I am no expert, you could try taking it apart and clean inside, maybe a bad connection inside, this may fix the issue
Followed the steps minus croc clips and toaster
Held firmly in place against a warm radiator for 3 mins, cooled, repeated thrice and display returned
Teşekkürler fakat sıcaklıktan alttaki plastik malzemelere birşey olmamış erimesi lazımdı neden erimedi acaba
What clamps can I use and where did you buy them from
Crocodile clips from the pound shop or any supermarket

Hi
Can hair dryer be used to warm it up
i never tested that but worth a go, just put it on high setting it might take a little longer to heat up, i did the toaster for about 20-30 seconds, but i did it twice
Thanks for getting back to me
combien de temps au-dessus du grille-pain...merci de m'informer...en français si possible
25 à 30 secondes, sinon répéter.
hi to all. can anywone provide me the model for the new LCD?
Would this work for a completely dead screen?
It's worth a try, what have you got to loose, if it does, great if not new unit.
Hi. I can’t get this video to play
Shouldn’t have cut that strip tape! That’s actually the connection between PCB and display! Wrong!
You sound like Tyson fury
Yes I thought the same
So,i tried this,it didnt work for me,and now it wont turn the boiler on,and i cant see the screen to reconnect to the reciever, any ideas?
