I was just getting ready to call the HVAC repair folks when I found this video. I checked the batteries in the thermostat and found they were corroded. Once the batteries were replaced, the thermostat worked perfectly. Thanks!
Thank you, thank you thank you!!! We woke up to a cold house. Husband is recovering from hospitalization, and at 75, he is always cold. I found your you tube, and tried the first thing you said, change batteries....IT WORKED! SAVED US $$ AND STRESS. 3 DAYS BEFORE THANKSGIVING.
I watched your video, went to the reset breaker and that was it, even though the breaker seems normally at ON, I switched it to OFF then ON again and the thermostat came back to life. Thank you!
My split unit HVAC shut off and the Trane XL824 screen was blank/black. Checked all the circuit breakers (outside unit, garage, attic, & inside the unit itself (left side) and they were all fine. Needed it fixed so we called the HVAC guys. All they found was a 3 amp fuse inside the interior unit that had blown. No other explanation other than there might have been a power spike of some sort. Replaced the fuse (this is the same type fuse you find in automobiles with the two flat prongs), flipped the power back on and everything was back to normal. Got charged $218 for the repair (holiday rate). The 3 amp fuse itself was billed at $18! If you have this same problem, power down the unit, remove the panel over the internal circuit breakers and check this fuse to see if it's blown. Replace if necessary. Hope this helps you avoid the same situation we found ourselves it.
this 3 Amp fuse is in the 24 volt side of the HVAC system and does not blow without an issue in that circuit. That company should have dive deeper to find root cause. Hope it does not blow again
Yes! I watched your video and troubleshooted my "blank" thermostat by just following your instructions. Not bad for a woman who knows nothing about thermostats. I am so appreciative!
Thank you so much!! Your video was a lifesaver!! My device doesn’t have batteries so I flipped the breaker switch for heater and it worked!! My screen came back on and I had AC again!! Never would have guessed it was the heater breaker. Can’t really be going without AC in these hot Texas summers!!
Thank you so much! I checked all that you suggested and it ended up being the heat circuit breaker. I just turned it off and then on and my Wi-Fi thermostat rebooted and reset. You saved me a technician call out fee. You are awesome!
Thank you, I tried everything, and then saw your video. I thought why should I reset the breaker when it's not tripped. But I did, per your instructions, and now my furnace is working perfectly again on this chilly morning. Big thanks!
Thank you so much. Easy to understand, simple to do. It was the batteries. My service rep was going to charge 89.00 plus any parts that needed to be replaced.
It was my breaker. It didn't show it had tripped but shut it off and on again and it's working like new. We did have a pretty good thunderstorm yesterday with alot of lightning here in Northern Texas. Thank you very much for your time and expertise.
Thank you sooooo much!!! I have to admit that I skipped checking the battery and went straight to the heat circuit breaker because we had a pretty bad storm today. Thanks for the great advice. 😊
Thank you, i found my daughter who was visiting from LA had accidentally tuned off the furnace switch next to light in the attic when looking for an extra suitcase. Its a two story house and I had been having problems for past five days with no display showing on lower floor thermostat. I changed the batteries twice and made sure the terminals were clean. I also flipped the furnace breaker off and on in the garage. For the first time in 5 days the outside A/C for downstairs was on. We just got home for a quick trip from Houston to Galveston for one overnight stay for Mother's Day and were major bummed because when we entered the house this evening at around 8 pm both downstairs and NOW the Upstairs thermostats were registering 81 even though I set them both to 72 when we drove down. The furnace switch was accidentally turned off just before we left. So for now 20 minute late downstairs temp had dropped from 81 to 75 and upstairs from 81 to 78 with the former blank screen downstairs registering now. I also checked the pans which had no moisture from overflow and were completely dry. So hopefully your recommendation worked. I really do appreciate your video and great advice. Carl T in Houston.
This is the only thing on the internet that actually helped me trouble shoot my issue. I just thought the light switch didn’t work and the inspector forgot to tell me.
There are also fuses on the circuit board, could be in line, which might be blown. I looked at 23 youtube videos on this topic today and amazed not one mentioned this blade type fuse. That was our issue. Replaced and everything is working now, canceled appointment with HVAC person. 75 cent fix.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions. It was the heat breaker for me as well. It wasn't tripped but once I reset it, display came back. It was marked AH in my circuit breaker.
It could be a bad thermostat, and it's easy to check in a house with two or more separate systems, all likely with the same model thermostat. Simply swap a good thermostat in place of the suspect thermostat (two screws and four color-coded wires). My replacement came from the less-used attic system and got us heat in the living area. Meanwhile, a new Emerson NP-110 thermostat will cost $18.
We turned off the circuit breakers and it did not turn back on the blank screen of the thermostat. checked the batteries they’re fine, where is that water pan? The fuse box are in the basement, the air conditioning system is outside, there’s no attic to go to, where is this water pan at with the switch please? 90° today please, help 🙏🤝❤️
Mine was the furnace door switch was not making a connection when the door was closed. Had to play with it for 20 minutes to get it connecting properly again.
thanks - yes it was the drain pan moisture detection switch set off by today's high humidity - I had forgotten about that switch! I put a piece of kitchen towel under the switch which might help
I replaced batteries I did the thingy with the breaker switch for the heat still no display I even checked the pvc pipes for water no water I changed the filters every month it’s not that .could it be time for a new thermostat ?
My daughter has a carrier unit. The thermostat will go blank and then the unit starts a clicking noise. You have to turn the thermostat to the off position then back on to get it to wake it up.
Had mine go blank and replaced the batteries and cleaned drain pan. Still didn't work. I almost gave up when I realized there was some corrosion on the battery terminals I cleaned them off then it started working again.
have a Lennox XP25 with a 10f81 thermostat. My numbers all disappear between the hours of 4 am till around 10:30 am. Then it comes alive again. Recycled everything. Does it even if system is off. I won’t call an expensive tech if the problem isn’t happening when they get here. A wasted service call. Frustrated. Not wifi related. Disconnected it from WiFi.
I can't find a drain pan or overflow switch. I also don't have an open pipe outside to vacuum the piping if something is blocked. . I'm freaking out. I changed batteries. I reset power. And I can't find any drain pan or the overflow switch. I just have a furnace with no pan. And I don't have a pipe with a float switch
What if my thermostat didn’t have batteries in it for the last year & half & it just went blank & stopped working . I took the thermostat front off & seen it never had batteries but it does have a place for batteries. My question is should I just put batteries in it although it has worked without batteries or do you think it could be something else & I should just get a professional
Can someone pleeeeeease help me? 😢🙏🏻🙏🏻 My ac unit was reset by accident. I used to have it set at 77 and at 79 is when it would turn back on. I want it like that again! 🙏🏻 I just don’t know how to set it back to that? UGH! 😩😫 Can you please help me? In other words I had it set 2 degrees higher than my set temp at 77 so it would turn OFF at 77 but turn back on when temp in house would reach 79 and I really want to set it back like that! Does anyone know where is the setting that I need to do please? I have a Nexia American Standard 624 thermostat
Then you need to check all the other things that would cut power 24vac from the red wire. Open door switch, tripped circuit breaker, blown 3 amp fuse on furnace board, safety temp sensor in furnace, overheating, tripped overflow switch, wrong thermostat wiring after replacement, batteries if the thermostat is powered by them,
The replacing the battery thingy is just wrong. Each thermostat is hard wired to the house electrical system. I woke up this morning, with the thermostat blank. Since it's hard wired, it's obvious, that it's not getting power. I put batteries in the thermostat, to see what the temp was inside the house, but other than that.....the batteries DO NOT start the furnace, if the thermostat is not getting main power from the house electricity. In my case, it's probably the thermostat that went kaput. I'll be calling a service person shortly, when they open.

You're awsome, responding to old videos.
My condenser pump failed, and my drain pan was full of water, which tripped the overflow switch. Thank you for your help!!
For me it turned out to be the drain pan in the attic. Thank you VERY much! You are beyond awesome!
I watched your video, went to the reset breaker and that was it, even though the breaker seems normally at ON, I switched it to OFF then ON again and the thermostat came back to life. Thank you!

Where exactly was the interior fuse? Is it on the air handler unit?

Same exact things happened to me. Did not look tripped but I reset it anyway, and volia - it worked.

Thank you sooo much! I checked all 3 and turned out to be the drain box, it was full. empted it and it all came back on
LIFE SAVER!! I never would have guessed it was the heat one that needed to be switched. THANK YOU!
How can I open the Emerson thermostat
Please tell me how to open my Emerson thermostat
Thank you sooooo much!!! I have to admit that I skipped checking the battery and went straight to the heat circuit breaker because we had a pretty bad storm today. Thanks for the great advice. 😊
Leaving the circuit breaker off for 30+ minutes seemed to help. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I must have moved or touched the drain pan switch cleaning around the AC unit. It was sticking up!
This was very helpful, thank you.
Very good simple advice. Mine was the circuit breaker, switched on and off. It’s fixed!
Thank you so much it was the water censor and pipe clogged...fixed in minutes....I owe you one

Thank you…Your video solved my problem😊
My thermostat goes blank most of the time, and comes back on occasionally. Any ideas on what to do?? Thanks
I replaced the batteries, same deal.
Forgot about the pan level switch. Thanks!
This video was a lifesaver! 🙏🏻
Thank you!!!! I had accidentally bumped the furnace switch in the attic.

Where is the pan located
My drain pan was dry, but I added some white vinegar to the drain line and that loosened a clog and allowed my thermostat to start again
So glad you were able to get your system going again!
