Paul Stewart Luckily (I use that word lightly) his sister was brave enough to take him to court. He never served time but is on the sex offenders list. The really sad part is that his dad's side of the family never believed any of it.

We are not looking sympathy. I totally feel very bad and sickened by the disgusted by the actions of these people who are Catholic and think more should have been done to stop this happening. It's just the title kind of sounds the whole Catholic as in a large amount and I mean wouldn't health professionals say something if a video titled I was abused by the National Health Service because yes it happens but it's not a large amount of doctors or nurses doing things like that. A church was build to worship God, it was meant for good, they even say the church is God's house. Quite dissapointing really, but that doesnt stop me from believing in God and Jesus Christ. As an Atheist, I don't think that a lot of you people should be saying that every single priest or volunteer at the Catholic Church sexually abuses kids...there's people who sexually abuse children/teenagers who aren't religious at all, and can even be atheists sometimes. I'm an atheist, but I am so pissed that this happened. It's not my place to tell you what you should or shouldn't believe. But this is the kind of stuff that ruined Catholicism for me. In my private middle school there was a vice principal that touched girls, and it went unnoticed for years. That was only 3 years ago. This sort of stuff is still happening today. I left that school and was finally free from the school filling my brain with the bible. And I realized that I identified more as an agnostic atheist than a Christian. If you are a parent DO NOT send your kids to a catholic school until they are old enough to choose what they want to believe. I can not stress that enough. I wish I could take all those years back. I was told "you can't question the Bible". When I did I was sent to the principal's office. I wanted to do an experiment with transubstantiation, but the principal made me go to reconciliation. When I'm older I want to become a physicist. Leaving the Catholic Church was the best thing that ever happened to me. The title of this video makes sense to me. Yes, the priest was the one that touched him, but the church's silence on the matter disgusts me. And you have no idea how many dioceses still do this. And the thing is, no one tells you the dark side of the church.

My teacher abused me, he was a man he took advantage of me he didn’t take my v-card but he touched places that I will never forget I am a woman and I felt so ashamed because a woman is strong and she stands up for herself but I never said anything and it kept happening I felt so so violated for the longest time and eventually I told someone the last time he did it to me he hit me so hard he knocked me out the good news is he got arrested and charged with abuse and I wish it never happened but it did and I can’t change that but I’m still growing from that experience and I’m also atheist to

Mean, sadistic people gravitate to the Catholic church and use its medieval traditions and culture as a conduit for their sadistic appetites. The Spanish inquisition, The Crusades, The Indian Genocides that lasted as late as 1988 when they shut down Holy Childhood Boarding school that housed unspeakable abuses and neglect by nuns and priests. I have no respect for that church.

When I was 5 I left the Catholic Church. Being 5 and just knowing that you just had to be there I really hated cause pretty sure everyone hated going to church when they were 5. But our priest got drunk one night and did a hit and run on a little boy who later died, he also molested * if that's how you spell it* our alter servers and my sister was an alter server. So we decided to leave. Than we went to a Lutheran church for VBS cause my sister was invited to help a friend and I was 7 when this happend and now i'm Lutheran and I love it!

The church absolutely deserves the hate it gets for this. This wasn't a series of isolated incidents. This was a systematic problem, carried out by cardinals, priests, and even bishops, covered up by the highest members of church heirarchy, with the popes sheltering priests from the US legal system.
This isn't a case of one fucked up individual, this is a case of an entire institution that knew about abuse and engaged in an elaborate cover-up of the decades of abuse that has been happening.
Watch Spotlight, this year's academy award winner of best picture, and it explains everything I have said in greater detail. It isn't that every priest has this problem, it's that the church heirarchy did nothing about it and actively covered up abuse by priests.

I see how people are saying "oh this is why I'm atheist" and "oh churches don't do that" Yes, some churches do that. And yes, it may be a good reason to be atheist. The point is, never once did any of these priests do it in the name of their supreme leader. That one priest that wanted the boy to be a model? It was also for the priest's desire. Christianity acknowledges that people are sinful and nobody is perfect. So stop the flame wars and actually be respectful enough to these people.

to me, it's not so much that there are sinful priests in the church (just about every church has a few bad seeds). it's the fact that the higher authorities did not hold these priests accountable for their actions and actively tried to cover it up in their best interest.
No, they did it despite their supreme leader. And the leaders of their churches knew, and did NOTHING. They allowed horrible, wounding, lasting abuse, and did nothing to stop it. The churches are to blame, and the congregations are to blame, and everyone that supports evil institutions and defends them, instead of calling on them to change NOW, becomes partly to blame.

I agree with you on the overly generalizing point. Im catholic and I know there's some bad people inside the church just like ANYWHERE else. But, for instance, i don't think that all priests are pedophiles because of one or two who stained their name; just like I don't think muslims are terrorists just because of a couple of criminals that happen to share the religion. I think the issue is that the Vatican, as the institution of the Catholic Church, covers up all of the sexual abuse of the priests. They don't go to jail or to trial or anything... It just gets hushed up and bought out. They use the power people's faith has over them to control them. There are thousands of reports of sexual abuse by priests in the United States with no consequences.

I was a catholic until i saw what religion does to people. Now i am a protestant.
The church is complicit in it and does nothing to bring the guilty to justice to protect it's members. They just cover up that it happened. They're part of the problem.

This is so sad... I remember attending a catholic church when I was very little and remembering a priest patting all the kids butts when they were getting loaded in the van including mine. When I got home I told my dad about how uncomfortable the man made me feel when he was around me and the other kids. The following day my dad goes to the church and threatened to kill the priest if he ever laid hands on the kids again. That was the last time that ever happen. I'm glad my dad was proactive about the situation instead of keeping quiet even though he threatened a man's life.

I'm Catholic, and i feel safe at church, at all the church events (CCD, VBS, etc.). Not every priest or nun is like this, there are evil people in every race, every religion, don't judge us Catholics by what some horrible people do within our church, God will punish these horrible people who sexually abused the poor people in this video.

The discrete instances of abuse was committed by individuals, but all the cover-ups, the efforts to make it look like they were addressing the issue but actually weren't (like the review board described in the video), and other members of the Church protecting those who abuse kids make it so that the Church itself is culpable. If the Church had taken swift and appropriate action against abusers, I'd agree with you, but the reality is that the Church did very little to help the victims and prevent the abuse and perhaps even promotes it by keeping things under wraps and protecting the abusers.

I was raised catholic and I was never abused by priests however I was mentally abused by some of the Catholic views and such, example: My elementary school who was obviously a catholic school used to make us stand for long periods reciting the living rosary, which caused me to pass out because I was too afraid to ask to sit down when I felt sick because I knew of other students who had either asked to go to the bathroom and were denied or felt sick and they were forced to stand anyways. So I smashed my head on cement and bled everywhere.
I also had to do stations of the cross where in the gym people would well.. Do the stations of the cross and perform basically in still frames the crucifixion of Jesus. We'd all have to walk to each station in the dark with creepy music playing. In complete silence which was terrifying. We also had confession every month and we HAD to go even if we couldn't think of anything to confess.
That is not healthy. That school shouldn't even exist, I bet Jesus wouldn't agree with this.
