Man, seeing you having to sit in traffic is brutal. Here in CA we split all day long and its sublime! Good tip on the V&H Fuel Pack since I have one ready for use and had no idea you could gauge temps.
Dude... super jealous of the you riding your fxdls. Mine got totaled the other night when a drunk ran a red light and took me out... watch you ride is helping me heal bro! Can't wait to get back out on the road. Much love!
I have a 2016 Fatboy S, enable and disable EITMS with FP3. You can also roll the throttle forward for 3sec. ( ignition turned on, engine not running ) enable and disable EITMS. Your cruise control light indicates on or off ( green on amber off ). It does help, I also have been monitoring my engine temp via. FP3. EITMS activates at about 285-290. Engine will sound different and the exhaust fumes will smell funny.
I have been thinking about the love jugs because my bike gets hot as hell then having to sit still at idle tends to fry the berries... But we'll see what happens when I am able to get out onto the open road an get some miles in on it
Long-time Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 owner. After just one test-drive, I can't WAIT to get a H-D with a Twin-Cam engine! It rattled, vibrated, shook, roared and VROOMED! I figure with "Love Jugs", I can reduce temps. With the Screaming Eagle/Cam chain tensioner upgrade kit, I'll also add 25% more oil. Some day, some day. :)
Agreed on the gear, I always have a helmet, over the ankle shoes, and long pants....hate gloves and a jacket because it's smoking hot here.....I wish I had been tracking my temp last week when the temps were 114...that was the hottest ride I've had in a while!
I Got a 2017 low rider s about same time as you. Glad I did now Dynas/low rider s are no longer produced. I live in Phoenix AZ and I'm running average 312 temp. High end has been around 320/330. With the Fp3 reading. Will be looking into love jugs/oil cooler by next summer. Looking forward to your input.
I rode for years in Phoenix in all seasons. Engine would get so hot in traffic in the summer plus addidng the heat coming up from the road. The hairs on your legs would curl up like they were singed. Much nicer in Florida now, although still pretty hot.
Twin Cams run very hot, one needs a rear cylinder heat shield to protect against the heat output. This is primarily due to the stock oiling system and the stock, sticking oil pressure relief valve located in the cam support plate.
Love jugs really work! got the Mighty Mites for my 08 Street Bob. Riding in slow city traffic my oil temps never got over 239 farenheit. And this is on a hot 90 farenheit day. Without them, the engine runs to 284 while the bike is moving slowly. At a long stop the EITMS kicks in.
That app on phone is amazing , all through Bluetooth. Technology these days. Not for me, however, amazing still. I’m going to get an oil cooler for this Summer on my 2016 Softail slim. I too ride with pants, boots, gloves and helmet always. My one weakness , is wearing half helmets on warm days, just drive more relaxed. Enjoyed the content.
Your engine has a function that disables one of the cylinders when your bike is running at idle just like the new Milwauke 8 engines have. You can access it with a Supertuner Pro. Not sure if you can do it with the FP3 though, you'd have to check.
BLOCKHEAD yeah pretty lucky but the sidewalks roll up at 6 pm every night decent eats 40 miles away in any direction which is ok unless ya really hungry so I guess no body lives in a perfect area 😎
Nex time try a blow dryer...I got fought in the rain from Manhattan to Milford Connecticut boot were soaking wet. Try putting them on the hotel heater....they didn't dry so I put the blow dryer in them they both were dry in less than about forty minutes
Wondering if you have thought about installing an oil cooler on your bike? Saw some on HD and aftermarket websites for dyna. The new Milwaukee 8's have them and seem to make a difference. Great channel, thankd for all the vids.
I just traded a 2007 ultra classic in because of head on rear getting over 400 degrees in summer. Shake and bake. This was measured with infrared temp gun at spark plugs. Front head was always about 100 degrees cooler, of course. So what did I do? Traded it for an Indian Roadmaster of course. We'll see how it does. I will know in about a year how good/bad Indian is.
The Harley costumes are so hilarious, the black and orange leather HD jacket guy with HD boots, the ol lady on back with Everything Hd including bandana makes me laugh. I wear what I wear to work, jeans and tee shirt.
L used to live in Ocala FL back in the early 2000s I know what you mean when you say middle of Aug florida summer. I for some reason moved to Vegas and I ride in middle of summer desert heat. You ride in a suna I ride in an oven.
I came here because my 2019 ZX6R runs like 180-205F in the hot hot days of summer. And I’m thinking about flushing coolant etc, well, dang, after seeing this thing maybe it’s fine.
How are the Love Jugs working out for you in the long term? Need to cool off my 2017 LowRider S also. Thinking of using the Love Jugs or/and a oil cooler. Also I’ve heard some riders use a special brand of oil that helps cool down oil temp about 5 degrees
Nice you live near universal. I go to UCF but I live in Deltona. I have a friend who works or at least I believe they still work at the Harley dealership
Marvel's mystery oil in the gas will reduce head temps about 6 degree's. Not to mention do a bunch of other good stuff. I run it in everything from lawn mowers, to my bikes air cooled or not especially if they have a carb, and my truck. A old Harley guy who had been riding them all his life told me if you don't want to rebuild the top end 3 times before you have to do the bottom end, run Marvel's in the gas. I've never actually owned a Harley but I did grow up in a Harley family...guess me not riding a Harley makes me a rebel? lol I ran it in a old Honda XR650L I had and it made a big difference. I could tell because my oil lasted longer because the engine was running cooler. I also realized I wasn't having to clean the carb after it sat for a few months in winter. So now I put that stuff in everything I own that takes gas. I also run it in my trucks oil but anybody who has a 5.4L Ford will know what that's about.
FL Weather and temps (how they feel), is more due to humidity. Wearing black or any other colors will not keep the humidity off of ya. Like he said, it is like being in a sauna. The color of clothing does not matter in FL.
There's a lot you can do to cool it down to be more comfortable and extend engine longevity. Check out this Report- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-the-twin-cam-engine-part-i-dk-cl-tc-dn-1.htm
Please don't mention hot weather while a Saudi biker is watching the video. In here it reaches about 50c summer and spring sometimes. Imagine that while riding an air-cooled bike and waiting at a traffic light. Love all of your videos. You're a great youtuber. Cheers.
Totally different kind of heat. What works in the desert doesn't work in the southeaster United States. I've been to the desert and thought "Man this is nice!" aside from making sure to drink plenty of water, and keeping your skin protected from the sun it's not that big a deal. In MS when it's 98 better find a A/C or a shade tree and hope there is a breeze blowing because your body can't cool itself no matter how much water you drink. That said I wouldn't trade it for living in a giant cloud of sand whenever the wind blows.
I have the love jugs on a 2001 Electra Glide definitely lowers the temps of the motor unfortunately your right leg will feel like it is on fire When your sitting.
BLOCKHEAD Yes my ride home at night is stop an go your going to have to be able to get that right leg out of the air flow of the fan. I use the crash bar on the right an balance on my left to get the right leg out of the air flow. They definitely keep the engine temperature lower.
Do you happen to know what your sportster ran at, heat wise? I have a 883 super low stock and it idles at 300 Degrees when its warmed up and rides on average 350. Sitting in traffic it will climb from there. its also brand new, 2016 model.
That's what I was thinking....the other day we were monitoring temps on an Iron 883 via a pyrometer on the heads and it showed around the same temps you're mentioning here. Bottom line is, 45 degree air-cooled v-twins run hot, it's just the nature of the beast; bigger engines produce more heat but all 45 degree v-twins are designed on a similar basis, they're designed to tolerate heat within it's particular displacement range. So an 883 v-twin could run as hot as a 96 incher v-twin however both are designed to tolerate heat according to their specs. It's the design that get these engines into high temps not necessarily their displacement, they all will get to similar temps but they will tolerate the heat as long as they're within specs. As I stated early, all 45 degree v-twins are designed on a regular similar basis, obviously there are major details that differ from engine to engine depending on the displacement......you can't expect a 96 incher to last with exactly the same design as an 883 or a 1200 (I.E. the cylinder's and head's cooling fins size).....in the same way you can't expect an 883 or 1200 to last by having the same engine components from a big twin (I.E. using a big twin head on little 1200 sportster). It all comes down to the design.... but that's what we love about the 45 degree air cooled motors ain't we? the design!!!....Harley motors, at least the pure air cooled v-twins, are muscle car engine's version of motorcycles, with lots of torque and that hot-rod roaring that no other motorcycle can give you. So due to their design most v-twins run at similar operating temperatures, but as long as every particular v-twin run within its own specs, it will tolerate the heat, as that "heat toleration" is part of that very same design.
Hey blockhead love your channel, dying to know how you got the mirrors flipped, I ride a 16 breakout and want to flip mine as well but they hit the tank, thanks man keep up the quality vids
After living in CA I don’t think I could live in a state that doesn’t allow lane splitting. I don’t know what gets hotter standing still me or my bike.
Not a criticism but an observation okay? I notice, after watching your entire video, that you shift at about 2,500 rpm and generally lope around 2000-2100 rpm while riding around your area. You down shift at about 1800 when you want to get up a go a bit. I've always tried to keep the rpm up at about 2700 when riding around town so; I don't have to down shift, I don't build up carbon and fowl the plugs and I keep the oil pressure are high as I can in the very hot weather. I think you might do a bit of research and you may find you could do your bike a favour in the long run by upping your revs about 400-500 rpm. Your bike will love you for it. Nice bike btw!
If these bikes need an after market fan then it says the engineers did a poor job designing the engine. This is not the case as I have ridden hundreds of Harleys over the years and been around hundreds more and have never once seen one have problems with overheating. Harley guys by Nature tend to be tinkers they never seem to be content and I believe a lot of this cooling fan issue is someone overthinking and wanting to be busy fixing a problem that doesn't even exist. If you or anyone have had overheating issue feel free to tell me about it, I am interested
How stupid are the laws that don't let you lane split. Don't know why the laws say that lane splitting is illegal. Making a motorcycle wait in traffic is so stupid. It cause more traffic.
I know your pain of HEAT I know you were in Arizona a while back, Temps in Summer average 115 plus Its Hard not to squid when its that hot. Keep up the Great Vids Brother
Do you ever have trouble after riding awhile and stopping to get gas and it's hard to start? Mine does it sometimes and it's embarrassing the sound it makes
I have the same kind of problem with my LowRider S. It stalled on a few occasions after it got hot ( rear cylinder becomes an air pump) Then it won't start until a few minutes later. Dealer said he hasn't hear that problem before. After a few minutes it starts up fine with no problem
Heat Is Caused By 2 Things the First is when your in heavy traffic no air is moving over the motor The 2nd is the Factory is forced to tune the engine Very lean to conform with EPA rules a lean burn creates much more heat. On a bike with a Carb. this is an easy fix Just re jet EFI bikes need a tuner or a Flash. Add an oil Cooler (with a fan) and or an engine Fan kit. The oil cooler without a fan will only help when the bike is moving. With this you should have no problem maintaining 200 Deg oil temp
Still illegal in TX too. Very frustrating. I'm not a fan of driving in between cars while they're moving, but at a dead stop, yeah, it should be legal.
All the sales guys at harley advised me to stay away from the lowrider S because of how hot the engine gets... They all said the same thing about long rides, how the engine gets unbearably hot. :( Went with a street bob.
Yeah, sales guys at Harley are fucking super genius engineers. You definitely did well by listening to their advice. You dodged a bullet by not buying cruiser of the year. The FXDLS is such a piece of shit they discounted it after two years and then dumped the entire Dyna range. Don't listen to everyone that actually owns them and loves them. Listen to the dipshits that work at Harley for $12/hr.
vector6977 yea. But he posted the video for how to put them in yesterday and then today a video saying he was on his way to put them in. I just noticed it was backwards. 😁
I have a 2012 FXDC and use Amsoil in all 3 holes. Very satisfied with it now using it in my 09 Sportster 1200 L also. Never had my oil temps get anywhere near as hot as his are getting.
You left out gloves! A good pair of gloves will save some of your skin when you put your hands out so you can slide down the blacktop :) It's the first reaction you have when about to land from flying through the air!
just to let you know there is two different oil temps, one is at oil tank and other important temp is at rod and crank and other friction areas in the bike, what you read at oil tank you can add 40 to 60 degrees more at rod and crank including other friction area. Maximum oil temp is around 375 to 400 after you over heat the oil, maximum temp goes down to maybe 300 degree and each time you over heat the oil you lose maximum temp.
Just wrap a large potato and a piece of steak ion some aluminum foil and strap em on your rear jug and call it a day. Those temps are bullshit. Not for me.
I love watching people faces and reactions every time i suit up for a ride during summer in S.Florida. They look at me like I'm doing a suicide mission. LMAO. Never gets old. The squid thing never gets old, I almost made a pancake out of one learning how to wheely on Okeechobee Road before the Turnpike on a brand new R1-M while wearing a $600 replica helmet and Puma snickers, NO BOOTS, NO GLOVES, NO JACKET, no common sense. According to the rest of the country there's no such thing as cold weather or winter in S.Florida, regardless, i wear a perforated black leather jacket at ALL TIMES and mesh Icon Hooligan pants. When it gets " really fresh" I have multi layered gear just for that. I could use heated grips tho. If i were to ride on daily nasty traffic like that at the beginning of your video I would be riding a scooter, not an air cooled stove.
Good on you for sportin' safer gear while riding. Can't go wrong with protection from road rash, etc. Not always easy to wear in the heat and humidity. Amen. But I think wearing a helmet or not wearing a helmet should definitely be a choice left to the rider. A report years ago said every death in NASCAR during a certain ten-year stretch was due to basal skull fracture/hangman's noose analogy. This means the force of impact sustained to the front of the helmet directed that force through the rigid bar and through the chin strap which drove the lower jaw bone into the spinal cord severing or injuring enough nerves to cause all kinds of signals to vital organs to be disconnected. The report was done some years after Dale Earnhardt, Sr. died in a crash at Daytona in 2001 and a lot of misinformation surrounded his death like seat belt failure. No. It was basal skull fracture. Unfortunately Dale didn't like to use those early HAAS-type devices which limited the impact force to the head with a special shoulder device connected to the helmet. Another issue with helmets is they often limit one's peripheral vision to an angle less than what's needed to pass the vision test at the Dept. Motor Vehicle. And that's with a helmet in compliance DOT regulations. So if someone were to take the vision test wearing a DOT approved helmet one would probably fail the peripheral part of the vision test. As well, DOT reg has a requirement for certain impact ratings which amounts to collisions in parking lots about a combined force at 13mph. The majority of collisions happen on the road at much greater combined impact speeds. I think average impact speeds are somewhere around 35mph. And 80% of accidents between cars and motorcycles are the car driver's fault who was waiting to make a left turn and who didn't see a motorcyclist coming straight through the intersection and who had right of way. And not to mention the reduction in sound a full face helmet creates, and how a person's head warms up being fully enclosed. The extra heat causes more fatigue compared to not wearing a helmet. As well, statistics were misused creating a false sense of hospitalization costs to tax payers due to injuries sustained by those not wearing helmets. A report cites even if an unhelmeted motorcyclist who was involved in a crash and had most of their own hospitalization costs covered by private insurance ... even if 0.01% portion of their hospitalization cost was picked up by the "public"; the entire cost of that person's hospitalization was included in a false report swaying congress to pass mandatory helmet laws based on exhorbanent costs for tax payers to provide care to unhelmeted motorcyclists. The report was a lie. Bottom line: you give up something to get something. Not wearing a helmet you have increased chance for other kinds of non-lethal head injuries and abrasions compared to helmeted riders who risk a higher chance of a catastrophic impact to the face if they choose to wear a helmet with full rigid chin bar. Helmets without the rigid chin bar can be a safer choice in this respect. You might be surprised how much damage an unhelmeted person's head can sustain and who will live to see another day. The skull is designed to deform and break up allowing the brain to avoid catastrophic trauma. Just like modern cars have used this principal to allow people to walk away from seemingly catastrophic collisions. I say: Let those who ride decide. Peace of Lord Jesus upon you and yours.
Lane splitting is legal here in california. I lane split only when I need to. I own a Harely too so got to keep that engine cool. Using the clutch gets annoying too when stopping and going. Lol.
why didn't Harley produce a decent sized engine since they were making a new engine? Even the 114 is only 1ci bigger than v twins made 10 years ago on other bikes.
Bentley Witherspoon most Harley's have through hole mounts, and nuts on the end so usually when you see mirrors like this they are just flipped over and placed on the opposite side.
b warren I ride a street Bob and one of the mirrors has the blinker attached to the bottom. So I can't just flip it upside down. I thought the low rider was the same, so I thought it was some kind of kit
Man, seeing you having to sit in traffic is brutal. Here in CA we split all day long and its sublime! Good tip on the V&H Fuel Pack since I have one ready for use and had no idea you could gauge temps.

I've been missing the straight up vlog vids brotha! Good stuff on this one! Also congrats on 20K!
Hope you riders in FL get to lane split like us in CA. Keeps my 48 under better condition Your the best Blockhead
Sadly we're not LEGALLY able to do so, although I've seen plenty of people do it...
There are times I kinda wish it was legal...lol
Rene Reyes only cali gets too sadly...
Really digging your usage of the FP3! Definitely going to hook that up whence I ride again!

lunayconsuela But I mean who wants to hear 1 cylinder at idle?
Exactly!!!
Lives in Poe Dunk north Alabama no traffic just lots of twisty back roads has No issue of heat on my S ride safe All 😎
+Bryan Frederick Lucky you!
BLOCKHEAD yeah pretty lucky but the sidewalks roll up at 6 pm every night decent eats 40 miles away in any direction which is ok unless ya really hungry so I guess no body lives in a perfect area 😎
Luv Jugs mighty mites. They hold the heat at bay and don't look bad.
Thanks for great videos. You don't seem to have EITMS turned on? Will activate at 285deg stopped or slow moving
Were you using EITMS? I never heard it kick on and it was definitely hot enough
Nex time try a blow dryer...I got fought in the rain from Manhattan to Milford Connecticut boot were soaking wet. Try putting them on the hotel heater....they didn't dry so I put the blow dryer in them they both were dry in less than about forty minutes

The Harley costumes are so hilarious, the black and orange leather HD jacket guy with HD boots, the ol lady on back with Everything Hd including bandana makes me laugh. I wear what I wear to work, jeans and tee shirt.
I get you man I have ridden in a t shirt and I now wear a mesh jacket and helmet all the time
this summer in phx,az. has been horrible. 108+ with 60/80% humidity

you should look at putting a oil cooler radiator on it and a fan to blow air through the radiator at the lights see if that helps
V&h fp3 is state of the art
Good to see you wearing a safety jacket and full fingered gloves.............Safety over image.
My father lives in Tampa an put love hugs on his bike noticed a huge difference in temp they also took the hot ping out
+Ryan Pierce Got the installed and they do make a HUGE difference. Keep the bike from going into EITMS even 👌🏼

Pending the weathwr my normal ridung gear is long pants t shirt boots and half helmet yup that will be a bad day if i go down at any kind of speed
Have you enabled EITMS? PS: Cherry up that new Deuces logo and sticker-ize it for your shop :)
What was the ambient temperature that day? I have a 95 1340 on a 90-degree day my head temps are about 220 rear 200 front and about 195 oil temp
How well does the helmet vent? I'm looking at the same but want to make sure it's cool in the summer.
im no expert in tuning i know you have a thundermaxx i have a similar issue maybe try adding fuel at idle
My first question what do you have camera second phon mounth ?
+Corrocket Agreed! And it's more dangerous to the motorcyclist.
I know your pain of HEAT I know you were in Arizona a while back, Temps in Summer average 115 plus Its Hard not to squid when its that hot. Keep up the Great Vids Brother
I filter lanes all day every day so very rare that I am sitting still in traffic 💪
Lucky that you don't have a catalytic converter on your bike...
OMG Love the sound... I buy a Street Bob in september (2016 model stage 1) can't wait dude I CAN't FUCKING WAIT !!!
Do you ever have trouble after riding awhile and stopping to get gas and it's hard to start? Mine does it sometimes and it's embarrassing the sound it makes
Chad Martin it's called compression
Ron Almon Yes sir! Have read it's common issue on the 110
I have the same kind of problem with my LowRider S. It stalled on a few occasions after it got hot ( rear cylinder becomes an air pump) Then it won't start until a few minutes later. Dealer said he hasn't hear that problem before. After a few minutes it starts up fine with no problem
Roel Tolentino same thing with mine..... googled it and saw people were having the same problem.... oh well still a great bike!!
do the mirrors touch the tank being underneath? what parts if any you using to turn them around. thanks
Excuse me Blockhead. What jacket is that? I live in Cali, I've been wearing a Harley mesh jacket but it has NO protection. Looking for something else.
keechmabreeks Thanks!
I live in CT and it's 70 degrees now
Can’t believe you have to sit in traffic with the cars, come to Australia you can go between right up to the front
*new rider here* why do you blip the throttle when downshifting?
Rev matching, otherwise you gotta slip the clutch
I got a iron 883 in Orlando and my bike gets so hot it's crazy
All these 45 degree v-twin bikes run hot not just the big ones
That's why all my bikes are liquid cooled my suzuki boulevard I can sit in stand still traffic for hours
I dont go with out gear. I have enough scars.
we can see the speedo your haulin ass
What phone holder do you use on your bike?
It's literally insane that it's not legal to move to the front of a STANDING line of vehicles.
I'm thinking about luv jugs myself?
Enjoy the cookout..
Boots and jeans below and protect your torso up top
So why did you post the flush mount gas cap and then the video saying you were going to put them in?
NINJA DAVIDSON just cause. Two different topics too
vector6977 yea. But he posted the video for how to put them in yesterday and then today a video saying he was on his way to put them in. I just noticed it was backwards. 😁
So what.
Get fucked, ninja. That's why.
OnPointFirearms what a d bag
Blockhead, next time you change your fluids, go full blown synthetic. Oil, Trans, and Gear. I've seen a huge change in temp drop on my 10 FXDC.
I have a 2012 FXDC and use Amsoil in all 3 holes. Very satisfied with it now using it in my 09 Sportster 1200 L also. Never had my oil temps get anywhere near as hot as his are getting.
georgemc68 I went full synthetic royal purple on my bike brought the temp down 30 degrees am better shifting an clutch engagement
A.G.A.T.T.
"All gear all the time!"
What are those mirror fittings called?
Why trade your 883 to a low rider?
Not for me.
when the riders voice sounds like they've swallowed a vibrator, you know it's a Harley :))
What's the app on your phone?
nvm i asked to quick in the video sorry
Those are nice fans, and work great unfortunately they copied wards werks fans which I've had for over 4 years now
Klotz oil -good stuff
David Almeroth yeah helmet should stay mandatory.
U dont care much for directionals?
Not many people dare to say their oil is up to 274°F,,,,,, they rather just ignore it👍...
Lane splitting is legal here in california. I lane split only when I need to. I own a Harely too so got to keep that engine cool. Using the clutch gets annoying too when stopping and going. Lol.
Sounds like an excuse to buy a 2018 Fat Bob 114ci :)
why didn't Harley produce a decent sized engine since they were making a new engine? Even the 114 is only 1ci bigger than v twins made 10 years ago on other bikes.
+tfhummer what?
Anyone know what Mirror relocation kit Blockhead is using?
Bentley Witherspoon most Harley's have through hole mounts, and nuts on the end so usually when you see mirrors like this they are just flipped over and placed on the opposite side.
b warren I ride a street Bob and one of the mirrors has the blinker attached to the bottom. So I can't just flip it upside down. I thought the low rider was the same, so I thought it was some kind of kit
Guilty of wearing a swim suit because I worked at a pool so I would wear my swimsuit and ride 😂
Hey Block what Sena headset are you using?
fire thumbnail had me for a second
can Harley give me a free bike so i can spray paint it?
Only if you're douchebag enough to do it live.
Do I have to put down my dog to spray paint it?
Yes if you rich as f..k, probably they will.
CHRIS I'm diggin this Chanel but I don't like Harley unfortunately . Although I would love to ride with this guy . He seems very down to earth
