  • @DerekJamesMandy
    @DerekJamesMandy 6 лет назад +23

    What I’m surprised no one ever seems to cover or mention is the raised seating position versus the Mazda3. It’s also a 10 way power seat with memory position versus the 3s 6-8 way power seats.
    Ground clearance might be similar but your legs will actually be more at a 90 degree chair seating position more commonly associated with mid size SUVs.
    I’m just shy of 6’2” and I’m much more comfortable sitting in this than a 3. A Mazda3 sits much lower and typically my knees are higher than my hip point (pointing towards the sky). Still comfortable just not ideal for someone of my height.
    It all depends on preferences. If storage is more a concern than the Mazda3 from front to back is better. If you primarily care about sitting higher and having AWD. Get the CX3.

      Specifically, the seating height above the ground in the CX-3 is 23.2 inches vs. 21.1 inches in the 3. Source: car and driver.
      To chime in further, I'm 5' 11" and feel very comfortable in my 3, though I haven't been conscious of where my knees are relative to my hips.

  • @AC-gw4qu
    @AC-gw4qu 4 года назад +14

    You're right that both the Mazda 3 and the CX-3 have a similar ground clearance--Edmunds has the 3 at 6.1" and the CX-3 at 6.2". However, that's not all there is to the SUV quality of the CX-3 ride. The bigger difference between the two is the overall height (and visibility) that the vehicles provide. The 3 is 57.3" tall while the CX-3 is 60.9" That's ~4" taller without any significant increase in roll-over risk--the seat is 4" higher. I'm 6'3" but my wife's 5'6" and this difference in height is one major reason we went for the CX-3 over the 3. She drives like she's 5'10": more confident with greater visibility that the CX-3 provides. If you're doing reviews, a good rule to follow is to measure twice, edit once. Cheers.

      Honestly, I'm 5'8 and pretty athletic.. I sat in the back seat of the Cx-3 just to get the experience of what my passengers would feel like and it was THE WORST cramped seating ever, even for a compact SUV. It was trash. Looks like it should seat 3 but I'd say maybe 1.5 at most, if you don't mind being super cramped. It doesn't make for a comfortable ride

    The whole subcompact SUV thing doesn’t make much sense to me. Many of them aren’t that much cheaper than the compact SUV that sits above them, and pretty much all of them are ridiculously underpowered. Not to mention that cargo space is rather small compared to a compact SUV or even a mid sized sedan.

    Nothing to see here 2019 model has improved more than the 2018 it would be a waste to get the 2018 since it is the same as the 2016-2017 models. 2019 improved interior, better ride , improved sound dampers, 2 more hp to engine, center console improved. Nothing reported on the infotainment system if it has been improved since the current is very laggy and buggy and Nav system is not detailed as others in class. CX3 is still worth a look at also among standard features, there is the Smart Brake Support, Mazda Radar Cruise Control . As well, the manufacturer has added a few more options which include power driver’s set with memory, a heated steering wheel, and full-color driving display.

    cx-3 looks good for sure, but trust me...if you're 5'10" or taller over time you'll wish the front seat had more room, plus you'll want more options to adjust the steering wheel as well. plus, the arm rest is a joke and if you have any drinks in the cup holders with arm rest down, its hard to grab them and use the knobs to adjust the volume can be difficult as well and make you use them in an uncomfortable position. and not last but least, don't get me started on the infotainment software...its so poor and lacking.

      So you bought a small mini van instead of an AWD CUV. That's what you call trying to justify a compromise. For utility, a Mazda5 is a good choice, but it's no CX-3. It's the antithesis of sexy - a basic FWD box.

    The base model with front wheel drive and manual transmission gives good performance with the 146 horsepower engine but the AWD automatic does not. The much heavier AWD versions need at least 10% more power to compensate for the added weight but that is not an option. All that is needed is a software upgrade to make the power because this same drivetrain produces 10% more power in other Mazda models. Sadly, Mazda has not done this even though AWD CX-3 owners have been complaining about the lack of power for years.

I want to know the maintainance in the United States. I found out in Canada is every 8000 mi which is12874 kilometers and when I made the conversion I was shocked, but I also noticed that the said maintainance is made to canadian driving conditions which made me wonder that check ups in Colombia are more often because of the poor quality of our streets... Anyway too much info for such a little info tip I wanna know. And yes im typing this in all KBB Mazda reviews :)

    The problem is that the CX-3 is not based off of the Mazda3 but rather it's based of the smaller Mazda2 which is why the CX-3 is so cramped for space. Once Mazda decides to redesign the CX-3 off of the roomier Mazda3 (instead of off the Mazda2) then it will be worth considering but until then, it's just too cramped to serve the practicality function that should be associated with the category that it's slotted in. I will definitely consider it once it does switch to the Mazda3 chassis.

      AWD is about it. That's that keep me from the hatch and Iv regretted not getting a 2.5 Mazda3 touring ever since. Just get the proper power plant which is the 2.5. Makes the car feel a lot more lively. Cx-3 doesn't have a lot of power because everything from the 2.0 that made it great got re worked just to get it to fit. I.e. Exhaust manifold or intake manifold

    • @voodootrois
      @voodootrois 6 лет назад +1

      The key is the exhaust manifold. The Skyactiv-G is optimized for a long path length in order to effectively run valve overlap for improved exhaust scavenging. The 2.0 Skyactiv-G in the CX-3 is handicapped with a traditional exhaust manifold, just as the Skyactiv-G that was in the previous-generation Mazda3.

    The Subaru Crosstrek starts at about $21,000-something, has 8.7" of ground clearance, has more passenger room, and it comes with AWD standard. Only problem I'd have with it is the CVT, but it's one of the better CVTs on the market, and you still have the option of a 6-speed manual trans. If I were looking at a CUV at this price, I would look at that first.

    I love Mazda, but the squeaky armrest kills this one dead for me, and I am not kidding. That would annoy the sh!t out of me for the duration. Cannot stand rattles, squeaks and buzzes in cars. I'll put up with them if I have to, but a totally unnecessary one right from new? No way.

    I test drove this. It look large and plump on the outside but once you get it it's cramp and enclosed. The door comes up so high you get a small window to look through. The back windows are tinted which makes the visibility worse. The gas paddle is hard while the steering wheel is light, there's a disconnect there, especially when turning. It feels like driving a box. I would recommend a hatch back instead of this.

    Mazda CX-3, a car for when you need AWD but the CX-5 is to big. I love the look of the CX-3 (well all mazdas but the CX-3 stands out) but uhhh mazda3 hatch with a manual is a lot more logical

      And make the back seat room about 2" more in all directions, and add more cargo space. Wait, I just described a CX-5, which outsells the CX-3 by many multiples.

    • @ctranger
      @ctranger 6 лет назад

      Mazda Europe sells a much more traditional armrest which can be swapped in place of the one which comes standard in most 2016-2018 CX-3s. Still covers the cups holders and requires you lift it to operate the e-brake, but that is an interior design flaw which is fixed in the just-announced 2019s.

    My wife had one cx-3 2019 with 40k miles and she already replaced the transmission, emergency break got stuck and we needed to tow the car, and have a few electrical issues. My Prius 2005 with 200 miles is more reliable than this car. She regrets a lot buying one of this car.

    People, if you don't like the idea of sub compact suv, simply don't purchase.. there's a reason why its exist, its is because there is demand on it.. most of the subcompact suv are daily driven in city, meaning they will use the car in lot of tight space .. the buyer thinking the hatchback car is too small to accommodate 5 people so they buy instead a subcompact suv, not a big car, and not too small., Enough comfy for adult to sit..

    • @thecarelectronicguy687
      @thecarelectronicguy687 6 лет назад +1

      Fabius Irvan Fabian Abron The thing is that as Micah explained in the video, the CX-3 actually has less cargo space than the Mazda3 hatchback, and it has the same ground clearance as the 3. So yeah, unless you need the AWD, there’s no reason to buy a CX-3 instead of a Mazda3 hatch.

    • @betaz1000
      @betaz1000 6 лет назад +1

      thecarelectronicguy most buyer of cx-3 will be women... As short rear and easier to maneuver... In my place, KL sub compact suv quite popular, parking in the city quite tight, mazda 3 hatchback are not famous, the price was too high for hatchback.. buyer in my country will go for subcompact suv or hatchback or sedan.. the famous sub compact suv currently are Honda hrv in my country.. *my opinion doesn't reflect or stand for other buyer opinion, you got money , you buy whatever you want..
