- I'm camping high in the Sierras just south of Lake Tahoe in a beautiful meadow.
I go for a hike, high in the Sierras, near Silver Lake. This is such an amazing place. The hike is the Granite Lake loop which goes past Amy Lake. However, I made a huge mistake on the trail. I will never make it again!
Then I head back to camp and make dinner. Really wanted a steak to celebrate my mouth healing up, steak and potatoes it is.

Put a life straw or something equivalent in the bottom of your pack. Even if you have an emergency or get lost for a week, you will still have water.
They are not heavy, and don't take up much room.
My thought too. Always carry a mini filter!

But don't use where you see blue green algae. It doesn't remove the toxin. I don't believe any of the filters do.
I could agree more. Try the tablets they sale, they don't take up any room. And do you carry bear spray. I'm always wondering cause there's bears and mountain lions. I just don't want anything to happen to you.

Happy you made it back Safe. Please carry a Good Garmen Car GPS & Fully Charged, Spare Phone with preloaded Maps & Apps. In your back pack. Along with a Can of PBR. & some woollies. Thank you for the ride through the Mountains. That was Very beautiful. Ever think about installing a Dome Bubble skylight on the roof of your camper. A place to stand up & 360° Filming View. Great Ending.

I've been watching your channel for quite some time. I was as surprised as you were at your rookie mistake...not checking your backpack for not only water but a trail mix to sustain you if unable to get back to your vehicle. Also, am surprised you had cell signal to find your way out. Please be careful. We care about you.
No cell service for me anywhere up there. I downloaded the trail in the app a few days before.

So many pretty places to hike up there - you chose another good one. So glad the empty bottle didnt turn out too badly.
It's a pretty short hike that most people do in a couple of hours. I was probably up there for 4 hours with all my filming and just enjoying sitting by the lake. So not a big deal but definitely a good chance to learn a lesson before I do a much longer and strenuous hike.

When you walked across that wooden bridge, you were at Woods lake. I've been there dozens of times. I live in Gardnerville nv, 30 minutes away. I always enjoy your RUclips channel!! You are so honest, and your camera work and music are so well put together. Stay well and hydrated!
Actually, this is a little further up the road at Silver Lake. But now I'm definitely going to have to check out Woods Lake and do a hike there. :-)

Birrrr sooo cold but beautiful though!!!
You might want to take a chance on our favorite red meat seasoning.....Brand: Lindberg and Snider....."Porterhouse & Roast Seasoning". We buy this at Raley's. This is the BEST so far. When cooking our favorite steak or Try-Tip, we also add a bit more salt and pepper too. We try to leave the meat out to get close to room temperature if possible. Pan Frying does work well. When we pan fry, I drag out the old cast iron skillet, heat it up very hot....a few minutes on each side, then, heat down and finish off to the desired redness. ......Hope this helps. I might have to look for that. I don't cook steak very often and I don't think I do a very good job, so I definitely need to improve. But I can cook a tasty pork chop. :-)
@@BexCatherder Also, in my limited experience, that grass fed beef is not nearly as tasty as the USDA choice or prime. Buying prepackaged food is certainly more convenient but often a lot more expensive. With my veggies, I cut and chop what I need, then place the leftovers in a zip lock or double zip lock baggie, then back into the cooler. Real potatoes can be stored in a cool place that will keep for a longer period of time too. ....Hope this gives you more ideas......Russell D.
Cody Lundins 98.6 is a must read. His hiking recommendations are cheap and light. Absolutely no excuse to not carry them at all times.

Enjoyed your video. Appreciated your honesty about hydration mistake. Good thing is, it won’t happen again! Love all trails app. It has saved me a number of times. I always download the intended trail before I leave so, if there is no service I can always follow my route.
Ya, it's an excellent app and peace of mind when you're on the trail. I downloaded the trail a couple of days before when I went into town because I had no service up there.

Awesome video as always. Incredible views. Lol only distraction was the 30 times you set the camera so it catches you walking...as I know you have to turn around and go all the way back to pick up the camera. Stay safe and carry water!

Getting lost/disoriented/stranded - any of the previous, is always scary. The pro side to it is that you do a LOT more preparing and planning from that point on! Glad you made it back safely!

Thanks Bex, I ran into the same water problem . In Arches NP the points of interest are usually close to the parking lot.. My wife and I grabbed a half a bottle of water on the way to delicate arch and about 15 minutes into it we noticed we still had a long way to go and sucked it up. Never again. We always have water now.

Sometimes we slip into a comfort zone wanting to get out on hikes, but in this case, the slip could have cost you your life, it is so good to hear you got back safely and will recheck next hike to ensure you got all the basic supplies for your hikes. You remained calm and went back to your ride. Take care on your hikes there is only one Bex-Cat herder.

Bex, I didn't worry one bit about you. I knew, that if this video was here for us, then you made it home, just fine. I often say, I wish I lived out west, to be able to go to the places you go during the off season. I would love to be without other people at a place like this!
