  • My first trip up 395 in 12 years found some great fishing for a variety of trout. This pond was at an elevation of 8,000, and I had it all to myself.

What set up do you recommend most? I would love to get details on like what kind of rig you set up , hook size etc.
As a new fisherman I have much to learn

For lakes and ponds I like to fish a Carolina rig.
A fairly small sliding egg sinker with a Carolina Keeper or swivel, and then a 12”-18” leader.
      #8 Owner Mosquito hook.
Bait is either a mouse tail or the Berkeley night crawler chucks.

5’ and 7’. Longer rods for lakes and casting distance. The shorter rods better for getting around in the brush.

Understood- I try to touch them as little as possible when I am not keeping them to eat, that’s why I avoid a net and lots of time out of the water.
