River Dammed By Lava Then Disappeared - Fossil Falls, California

- Camping at Fossil Falls campground for FREE!! Fossil Falls itself is really fascinating.
Fossil Falls is just off 395 in California. This is a really fascinating place where the Owens River carved through a lava dam millennia ago and created a double falls. It sculpted the lava rocks into incredible sculptures that really captivated me. I also camped in the adjacent campground for free. Definitely visit if you're in the area.
I'm Bex and I live full-time in my tiny RV camper. I make home movies about camping, hiking, tiny living, solar and power generation and everything to do with RV life. All my power comes from the sun and solar power. I enjoy simple camp cooking and being outdoors.

A really beautiful park. You always bring us history and something to kind of blow our minds. Thanks, Bex. ♥️🙏🏼♥️
YAY!!!! It's our Bex!!! Mornin' girl!!!!
Oh my gosh! I am so happy to see you at Fossil Falls. These out of the way places are awesome and you take us there with joy! Thank you. My husband and I were there recently and found it fascinating. We enjoy no crowds and it seems you agree! Fossil Falls is the no crowds capital of California. 😊
Once again; fabulous photography, good hikes and some fast facts to whet my interest but never enough to be boring. That night sky montage at the end is marvelous. Thanks again Bex for taking us along.
Oh, thank you for the kind words! :-)
What an epic landscape and the drone shots were the icing on the cake
Thank you! :-)
We’re going to Hwy 395 soon. This is going to be on our must-see list. Love it when you do a timelapse of the night sky! Another wonderful video, Bex! Thank you!
395 is my favorite place in California! So much to see. You'll have a blast. :-)
Hi from Tennessee. Great video. Enjoyed seeing the water falls. Thanks for sharing your little hike and your camping spot. Have a great day.
That time lapse was awesome
This area reminds me so much of some of the pictures of Mars that the rovers have sent back to us. Dry river beds and lava flows, cinder mountains and windstorms, and a stark barren landscape. Thank you Bex for sharing another 'oeuvre d'art'.
Thanks so much! Yes, it's a fascinating environment. I enjoyed just sitting by the falls and seeing the details on the rocks. Kinda mesmerizing.
Wow that’s windy. Stay safe.
WOW looks like a distant desert planet! Very cool, well shot and edited! You nailed it thank you, ALL stay safe walking on those rocks!
Super cool place Bex! You find so many unique landscapes🌟
Thank you! :-)
I love your videos😻
These are exactly the "off the beaten path" places I love to visit. Looks fantastic.
Loved it! Your videography is professional. Your work will surpass you in life.
Susie Schleppenbach: I agree totally with you "Oh my gosh! I am so happy to see you at Fossil Falls. These out of the way places are awesome and you take us there with joy! Thank you. We enjoy no crowds and it seems you agree! Fossil Falls is the no crowds capital of California." 😊
I believe a old type filmmakers trick is to put a sock over the microphone to cut down the static noise caused by the wind.
I have a dead cat on my mic but I think the mic connection on the camera itself is faulty. I'm going to try to tape it down in a future wind storm and see if that helps. Thanks for watching! :-)
Wind is my absolute favorite weather. I just feel it blows all the negativity away. Lucky you!!🌺
Wow. And I kept saying “wow!” The drone shots were amazing. Thank you for taking the time to do that. If you liked this, check out Palouse Falls and Dry Falls in WA state!
What fun!
The things we do for love...that wind was off the chain. What the temp in your area.
It's always nice to watch your video chat are full of information and local facts
Be safe and continue sharing your awesome talent. Hugs
What an amazing video! The night sky at the end was unreal. I've never seen anything quite like that. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching!! :-)
Wow, I've never heard of Fossil Falls. Very beautiful polished lava. Beautiful cinematography. 😍
The water smoothed rocks were so gorgeous & do look like sculptures, amazing what nature can do! Your ending time lapse was cool. What was causing the ground areas to light up? Thank you for another great opportunity to explore with you Bex - always learn a lot.
The lights flashing across the ground are cars driving by.
Always so interesting! Frame repaired and mobile again...love it!!
Yes, all seems well again. :-)
Awesome! Love the drone shots., as well as the time lapse starry night! Thanks
Cool looking landscapes, I love places where you are totally alone. I love that feeling of being the last man on earth. I don't mind all the little critters that scurry on the ground, except for the one with a rattle. That astro-photography was pretty sweet.
@10:47 Looks like a megalithic-block supports for an ancient bridge.
Honestly, you should do tour groups. You could make extra money. You go to the most awesome places.
Yikes that wind was epic. Appreciate you focusing on info signs so if interested we can pause to read. Landscape filming is excellent and out of this world. Thanks for video and commentary.
Awesome video! ( just so you know, YT is now bombarding me every day with your videos. That is fine with me!)
Yay??? LOL. :-D
Bex thank you for taking us to the out of the way parks! And teaching about them. You do a fabulous job and I and others are very grateful! big hug! Be Blessed.
This episode didn't come up on my feed, though I am still subscribed. Luckily I caught it.
Scientists call water the ultimate solvent. It wears away anything, just takes time! 😎
Great light show
I would like to camp out there. I live in Tennessee. Been to California. Camp out in the desert before. I know that the nights are very beautiful the sky is what I want to see mostly.
Your time lapses never get old. : - )
The best videos in the West always anticipating your next video thank you for your good work
A starkly beautiful Landscape !
Thank You for Your Cool adventures ,
+ for Your beautiful Self !
Much Love

Thank you so much! :-)
Another great video. A very interesting landscape. Like you said, you can almost see the water flowing. I loved the use of the drone to get the big picture, and the time lapse footage was great at the end. Thank you, Bex.
Thank you very much! :-)
Wow I love the wind as long as there is not damages caused.by it. It’s so beautiful 😍 🌬 Ty!
Another video? 👌 Have you seen a ranger anywhere? Must be nice to have the place to yourself. I'm going to have to check out those turbans on Google. 😆 ❤️
What an other worldly looking place Next. You never cease to find the most awesome places to explore. I seen an image of an elephant and half of a man's face (had a crack thru the middle) Thank you so much for taking such care in filming. 🙏✌️🌎💞
The time lapse at the end was amazing ~
Fossils are always fun. Stay out there
Whoa 🤩 that sky view is beyond beautiful 😍
Thank you for sharing your lovely spirit. I don't have any friends who speak English in the country if I live in and I get a little lonely sometimes, not that I had any friends when I lived in America.. lol.. and watching your videos really cheers me up.
How amazingly beautiful the water must have been. It makes me wish I could go back in time and see it. Thank you. Really nice video.
I love it that you visit such wonderful geological events. Gorgeous!
Your photography is fabulous!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Pretty darn cool!!
Very nice job showing the lava flow falls.
i sure wish los angeles had not drained and stolen all the water from owens lake and that valley .what a great asset it would be now.it would still be a river flowing thru there
I agree. Such a shame what's happening in the valley now.
What a great place. Thank you for taking us along.
just stunning, I am amazed how many beautiful spots there are int the good ole USA, thanx bex
Love the time lapse at the end. Nice drone shots over the falls. 👍
Nice and secluded! Great camp spot! Nice drone footage and time lapse at end- thanks for taking the time- appreciate it!
Two thumbs up
Wow amazing again! I always worry that if you fell in, who would know when you're alone! xx
What a cool place! I loved the drone footage and the time-lapse of the stars, too.
Bex, you always go to the most unusual and beautiful places. Thanks for sharing.
One day I'll get a camper
You are getting really good with that drone, kid. Very nice video. Goodnight.
Another awesome video. I am adding this to my list of places to camp in my Casita!
There were even a couple of pull-through sites that were easy to access. It was a good place to hang out and get some work done.
sometimes it's just nice to be not in a tent!
Once again, an inspiring, unusual story.
Wow those rocks are so beautiful 😍👍, looks like another planet , yeah like you said an alien landscape , love it !
Thanks Bex, you’re the best.
Dang Bex. That wind is crazy 😧 thanks you for sharing this video about Fossil Falls. The landscape looks similar to the scenes in the original 1960's TV show Lost In Space.
Oh, I wouldn't doubt that that old show may have had scenes filmed just up the road in Alabama Hills. It was a very popular filming spot back then.
@@BexCatherder interesting. 😃
I have been to the Falls twice, They’ve very interesting place..I love your ending
yes Bex. Awesome.
Awesome video, The rocks & ancient river bed is amazing! Good job on the video work, Love the drone shots! cheers
Wow. I ❤️ this video. Thanks for making it.
That's just fifty miles from Cerro Gordo ghost town. Have you heard of it?
A friend had mentioned the place to me. Would like to go there sometime.
Once again, another fabulous video! Thank you Bex for the adventure!! 👍🏼
Before you started traveling, were you a teacher? You know so many interesting facts about a lot of things 🙂
I worked in tech in silicon valley before hitting the road. Mostly just sat in a cubicle hoping no one would bother. LOL
@@BexCatherder Haha, an introvert who enjoys sharing their travels! 😁
Hi from VERY nearby bishop we’re having a downtown block party from 5-9 food vendors music
Sounds like a good time! Wish I could be there. :-)
You find and share some of the most interesting places. Great video and music to go with it. Thanks for sharing.
that's my favorite camping spot - awesome place
I sure do appreciate your content. I've lived in California all my life and did not know about this place. Thank You for sharing!! 🙂👌🙋♀
Good job ! Really enjoyed the photos and drone footage really beautiful . Have fun !
Bex, I love your videos.... and always learn something! Thank you❤️
That is so cool! I'm putting that on my bucket last :)
Your videos are always the best! The drone shots and time lapse are awesome.
Miss you! Hope you're doing well. Really fun video!
We get wind like that here in Wyoming.
💛💛💛
Your an inspiration.
Fascinating geology lesson... and I actually understood ! That color and shape of eyewear us you... highlights you eyes and complexion !!! Trailer holds up ok in the high winds ?
It always amazes me of the far away places you show us. I would not be ready to hike or camp by myself right off the bat. I would need to ease into group camping with one or two Nomads, and then go off on my own for sights I want to see. Your Scamp has help up in any kind of weather too. It's a 13 foot trailer no bathroom right? I have a 17 foot Casita with a bathroom and closet.looks just like a Scamp.
Thanks for the wonderful video ! We Love You :)
Cool place , thanks for the adventure.
I do like your videos thank you
Great, great video!!
Great video. Super interesting! Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks 🙏
🥰🥰🥰🥰

Thank you so much! :-)
Very interesting, Bex! thanks. have you seen the BIG Dry Falls in WA state?
on hwy 17 just off hwy 2?
I haven't been there yet. I really should do a couple month trip through there as I have several places I would like to visit there.
@@BexCatherder If you're interested in the Canadian part of the Okanagan Valley, the coffee is on me.
Thanks for the video. I have driven past that area years ago. Now it is on my bucket list. What time of year were you there? I bet it is hot in the summer.
