Explaining the reasons for switch replacement would be a good way to start the video. Common trouble codes and issues that point to malfunctioning gear selector switch. That's what I was hoping for. Thanks for video though.
I've watched several videos about this and this one I watched after I already figured it out but still this video by far is the best one I've seen! Quick, to the point, and very informative. Great work
Just changed mine out on my 04 chevy 2500hd, followed this video and the order as well. Best video on the tube.👍🏻 Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Great video!!!!!!!!
I saved this to my cry it out list. Maybe it'll make me laugh maybe it'll make me cry idk but it hits my feels in a wierd way. I sent it to my wife, we recently seperated. She didn't respond.
I would recommend some red wine and possibly some popcorn to help keep those tears at bay. Most will laugh, but indeed, some will cry. I did hear about you and your wife, I was really hoping things would have worked out. You guys were great together. Maybe send her some of our other video's
Some of the 2004 LLY Allison 1000 /M74 Vin2 only have one plug on the Park/Neutral Position Switch. If your scanner indicates various incorrect readings on Gear Commanded/ Gear Selected/ Current Gear/ Previous Gear such as; Park: Gear Commanded 0, Gear Selected 8, Current Gear 0, Previous gear 0, or Drive: Gear Commanded 1, Gear Selected 5, Current gear 1, Previous gear 1. Or Third Gear: Gear Commanded 1, Gear Selected 3, Current Gear 1, Previous gear 1. It may also make a whirring/ spinning noise for a couple of seconds with loss of intertia, and lunge for a second with loss of inertia. It may seem to do it more while cold and while hitting a rough spot in the road. You really should renew your spin on filter about every 3,000 miles, pan filter and all ATF every 10,000 miles.
I just put in a used 4l60e transfered my original switch didn't align it because I didn't know that they have to be aligned it only bolts on one way and the gear arm only goes one way back and fourth... My truck is jacked up in the rear and when I put it in reverse it last 3 seconds tires spin then stop .. new fluid new filter.. I was told that these switches nothing to do with how the transmission actually goes into gear.. but clearly it must ?? So my faulty or unaligned shifter switch could be the cause why my transmission won't go into gear because it's not getting ground or bad connection?? Weird how this lil peace plays a huge delicate roll.
I have shift inhibited and when it does work it goes into third and the clunks. I have replaced the switch Tcm valve body. And the internal harness and still nothing idk if this switch is bad again or if it’s the whole harness
@JuanCruz-xy4pn rebuild kit costs about 500 or 900 for upgraded sht. Watch truck master's video on allison rebuild. It helps to see the internals taken apart to get a good idea of where your issue might be coming from. Almost sounds like a sticky solenoid. Mine clunks because the tcm is bad. Find as many symptoms as possible and type them all in a search you'll find a forum with the same issues for sure
I went to stomp my lb7 and had a big loud bang bang limped in 3rd gear , cleared code was fine figured I just limped it , not I do it even on stock tune . And range inhibited came on today while I put it in reverse , clear the invisible codes that are stored in my tcm since it don’t show codes on my edge and it works fine
2004 3500 LB7 Allison 1000 5-speed with 270K and I am getting p0700 & p0875 codes, full fluid...No issues when cold until it warms up 110-psi... Any ideas or suggestions?
There is a seal directly behind the switch for the shift shaft, that would be the most likely cause in that area. It can be found here www.merchant-automotive.com/manual-selector-shaft-seal-allison-2001-2023/
I just did this on my astro. 13mm mounting bolts, 15mm for the shift arm. I didn't know about the goop but brute force and ignorance got the connectors off. I was liberal with the silicone grease on them.

I can't thank you enough for this!
Whats the purpose of replacing this part?
Transmission in neutral but with the shift lever or down on the bottom?

Try an ignition switch. I have replaced mine 2x and it seems to help for a while. I’m having the same issue as you.
@@Vibxes-_-2k ok I called a transmission shop here in Lubbock they want $7,000 to rebuild!! Ok like wtf!!!

@@merchantautomotiveis this the same for 2006 lbz
Thanks dude, that was awesome!
You're welcome!
How do you change the 2006 6 speed Allison ? I haven't seen any videos on it.
The 6 speed switch is internal and requires valve body removal
@@merchantautomotive with the switch be the problem range shift inhibited
@@larryrichins7887 That is very tough to determine without having more information.
Would this fix a no reverse? 04.5 lly? If I clear codes. Truck will go in reverse.

Same codes I got the other day on my 2013 LML. I’m in the process of dropping the pan and doing a series of inspections.
Where did you get the part from ?
The switch is available from Merchant Automotive. Here is a link: www.merchant-automotive.com/NSBU-Switch-2001-2004-Allison-1000

Does the one for the 2005 come in neutral ? It doesn’t have that retainer clip on it. Is it supposed to?
My truck is saying range shift inhibited. Won’t go into any of the gears. Need some help. Thanks 👍
