Wow, that was the most information I’ve ever learned about my Transmission. You are a very good teacher and clearly you know your stuff. I wish I had a mechanic nearby me that explain things clearly and perform honest work.
My trani is leaking out the breather tube .The transfer case had a small hole.I repaired that leak .Then the breather started too leak .Changed both filter .No metals or bad dirt .Shifts well still leaks .Please help .
Hey bud just had a reman trans put in truck acts like it is not starting out in first gear. Didn't know if it could be the dead pedal thing. got the truck back it ran fine then threw a code for torque converter solenoid. truck had great power took it back. week later got it back feels like it starts out in about 3rd gear. any idea.

I just put a used LB7 in my truck. I bought it not running. The trans will go in gear then goes into neutral. Scanner won’t communicate! Has power and ground at the tcm. Any ideas? The trans was rebuilt not long ago
I'm a complete rookie when it comes to the Allison. I'm currently looking to purchase an old 2001 Chevrolet Silverado with the 8.1 Vortec and it has the 5 speed Allison transmission. The truck has right at 126,000 miles, which I know isn't considered very high mileage. Is this common problems I should look for in this truck too or is it mainly in trucks that's been tuned/built and throwing a ton of power into their transmissions? As far as I know, this 8.1 is all stock and I'm not interested in tuning it if I buy it. And obviously, the 8.1 being a gas isn't going to have the torque a big Duramax will have. Just trying to make sure I'm not about to mess up in purchasing. Thanks!
I have an 03 Silverado with an 8.1 and 5 speed Allison, and I love it. Be aware of the NP 263 pump rub issue, and park nuetral safety switch issues. In my opinion the biggest issue with these 1st gen Silverados is the wiring. They are also stupid easy to steal, I could teach my 15 year old niece how to steal one.
Was hoping you can help me out with something. Had customer towed in this morning he said he was driving along 55 mph on the highway and all of a sudden no bang no major noise he just lost every gear. I'm wondering if there's a spleen that could be worn out or something only because I checked the fluid level and it's up there and it's clean but when I put it in drive I have quite the whining noise even if I put it in reverse I have the whining noise when the winding noise gets a little quieter drive starts flashing on the console. My thing is not realizing something is spinning I went to put it back in park and I could hear the park rod trying to activate. I did not force it into Park I simply shut it off and then put it back in the park. The shifter linkage is shifting for every gear but the vehicle does not move and the transmission does whine. It is the factory engine and factory transmission. Engine is gas powered 8.1 l vortec and the transmission is obviously and Allison 5-speed automatic but I just have no drive to the wheels and a whining noise was wondering if you could shine any light on this. Me honestly with no engine codes or transmission codes almost sounds like the drum and the clutches are wiped I would say he got his money's worth because the original engine and transmission have 409,130 MI
I hate it when my Allison Transmission gets a major fuel leak. Not near as bad as when it gets a minor fuel leak but still sucks. Would you be able to show how to prevent fuel leaks on my transmission in the future?
