The algae is seasonal. It appears during summer and when the wind is blowing from the east. The best time to visit is from September to January when there’s no algae at all. Note, however, that the rainy season is from June until around November.

But if you like a little crowd, traffic, higher prices, not so pristine water, cheap souvenirs, tourists arriving on a conveyor belt with selfie sticks, Boracay could be for you! - I would say late, sun down beach parties were good(!)

I recently returned from trips to both Bali, Indonesia, and Boracay, Philippines, and the differences were stark. Here’s a breakdown of my experiences: **Bali:** - The airport is modern, efficient, and welcoming. - There are countless activities: surfing, snorkeling, island-hopping, and an abundance of delicious food options. - The beach clubs are stunning, offering breathtaking views and a vibrant party scene. - The resorts and facilities are world-class in design, catering to an international crowd. - Public policies are tourist-friendly, allowing smoking in many areas and drinking on the beach, which lets you relax and enjoy without unnecessary restrictions. - The environment is clean, and there's a wealth of cultural and traditional experiences like visiting the Monkey Forest in Ubud, day trips to Nusa Penida, and exploring Balinese temples. - Bali hosts sophisticated events, attracting international DJs and world-renowned performances like Ibiza's Elrow, adding to its vibrant nightlife. **Boracay:** - The airport experience is abysmal. The facilities are outdated and overcrowded, clearly unable to handle the number of tourists. - The government missed a significant opportunity to generate revenue by not investing in a world-class airport. - Restrictive policies, like the smoking ban, feel excessive and hinder the freedom to relax. - While the beach is beautiful, it’s the only highlight. There’s a lack of cultural and traditional attractions. - The crowd is predominantly local, and despite higher prices, the resorts and clubs don't match the architectural elegance or design found in Bali. - The clubs play outdated music, and the overall vibe is very "jologs," lacking the sophistication and modernity you’d expect in a top-tier tourist destination. **Overall:** - The beach in Boracay is superior, but that’s its only strong point. - In Bali, the entire experience, from the vibrant activities and diverse food options to the welcoming policies, sophisticated events, and cultural richness, significantly outshines Boracay. - Bali offers a well-rounded, exciting, and culturally enriching experience, making it a far more attractive destination overall. I hope that the Philippines can learn from its neighbors and invest in improving its infrastructure and tourist policies. By addressing these issues, Boracay and other destinations in the Philippines can reach their full potential and provide a world-class experience for all visitors.

- Bali hosts sophisticated events, attracting international DJs and world-renowned performances like Ibiza's Elrow, adding to its vibrant nightlife.
**Boracay:**
- The airport experience is abysmal. The facilities are outdated and overcrowded, clearly unable to handle the number of tourists.
- The government missed a significant opportunity to generate revenue by not investing in a world-class airport.
