Honestly Cait and Vi's romance is one of the best written I have ever seen. So much is non verbal and the progression from the "Who the hell are you?" to "I'm the dirt underneath your fingers" is very organic. It feels like it will be a loss if we don't get more of them in the future. Also the thought of Ekko on the bridge being the awkward 3rd wheel makes me chuckle. He is probably thinking "Didn't you guys meet like yesterday or something?" Then the 4th wheel comes in and tries to murder the other 3 wheels.
Each time Vi calls her Cupcake it is to cover up vulnerability. But each time the veneer gets thinner as Vi’s actions shift from separation to connection. Eventually ‘Cupcake’ becomes a code word between them pointing to true feelings as Vi acknowledges Cait’s ability to see through her facade. “I’m the dirt under your nails…” = ‘I’m physically here.’ “Cupcake” = ‘I know you really see me; I’m emotionally here also.’
Thank you for this. I think that so much questions is put on the Cupcake title or in this moment but the most important part is actually when she says "I am the dirt under your nails...nothings gonna clean me out" which is where she is answering Caitlyn's question. She is telling Caitlyn "I am still with you. Your problems are mine and mine are yours.Nothing will change that." It is also important to note Vi's body language in the entire scene as she is so relaxed and barefoot, healthy, no bandages, and literally humming. But when Caitlyn asks the question she doesn't hesitate to answer and her eyes squint almost flirtatiously, reminiscent of what you said when she calls her cupcake the first time indicating she is bringing playfulness/lightheartedness to the moment heavy with their past and unknown future and then she gets serious placing her head under Cait's chin and closes her eyes contentedly when she gives a more appropriate answer even though its still light. It is their dynamic where Vi can close her eyes and be certain that no matter what she will always be with Caitlyn. She does not have to plan it because THIS will be the outcome. Caitlyn keeps looking on because she always over analyzes and plans but this time it is to ensure the same outcome as Vi, them being together. Simp rant over lol Thank you Again!!
Awesome vid as always! I totally agree. Vi knew Caitlyn also has burdens of her own and did not want to add more. Somewhat calling her 'cupcake' in that moment to lighten the mood up a bit as she noticed Cait's question and feeling is quite heavy. Despite it all, I'm glad that they are both all in and can now rely on each other for support.
I also just realised, Cupcake is only said during crucial moments in their relationship. When the first sign of romance and attraction are shown, when Vi depends on Caitlyn for the first time and calls her sweet, when they have to leave eachother, when they breakup, when they reunite, when Vi tells Cait shes staying with Cait forever etc.
I have heard many people talk about how Cupcake is a way for Vi to protect or hide her true feelings but I have always seen it as a way for Vi to express those feelings but still trying to keep it light hearted and playful. It signifies there are deep emotions in the scene that go deeper than words. I also think it is a constant reminder to Cait that Vi thinks she is sweet ❤
I have an idea about why Vi calls Caitlyn, Cupcake during the last scene. I don't think she wants to protect and reassure Caitlyn from her suffering, but rather she is asking, indirectly, for help from Caitlyn. Cait has now learned to understand Vi's hidden language. So she understands what emotional state Vi is in every time he says Cupcake. Vi is telling her: "I need time, I need you to heal my wounds, I'm hurting and I'm happy to have you by my side". In fact, Vi leans on Cait's shoulder as if she needs to be comforted and protected. One last detail is Vi's broken voice while she talks to Cait. It is clear that she is going through a very difficult period but this time she is no longer alone
Tend to think the same, the entire phrase (the "dirt under the nails" one) sounds to me like Vi's implying something like that, as if saying "I'm in a lot of pain and it's killing me, will take a while to go through it, but with you by my side I know I can overcome it", but doesn't want to talk about it at the moment so she says it in such way. Also I think that it has a bit of a double meaning, aside from what I mentioned, it can be interpreted as an implicit way to tell Cait she loves her and whatnot...
I feel like Caitlyn expects and wants everyone around her to call Caitlyn but if Vi ever called her by her full name instead of Cait or Cupcake she'd know something was wrong and she'd be worried Vi was mad at her.
at first... i will always praise Amanda for her respect to source material... because... from all of those silly ideas of original... "Cupcake" started something incredible for lot of people... secondly... it kinda felt to me that Vi is using "Cait" especially because she heard how even Cassandra call her just "Caitlyn"... i think "Cupcake" in the last scene is also symbolic... i mean... that word started it all... it's nice to end it with that word too...
I agree, I think she was trying to keep it lighthearted playful and detached but not to shield Cait from her love but to shield her from her pain by using the nickname to create distance, as she is inherently avoidant and chooses to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders like Vander imposed upon her :( in time we hope she learns to lean on Cait as she does physically in the end scene. This worries Cait, which is why she was happy to hear her humming, in the hopes that Vi's depression may have started to slightly lift, then take on a worried look and question, "Are you still in this fight...", when she realises Vi is still deep in grief. Side note: I love the fact that Caitlyn is an inherently up-tight character but playfully nudges Vi in the end, even when being intimate it is one of the first times we see Cait truly laugh, I think they are slowly rubbing off on one another which is very sweet
I read Vi's use of the word 'Cupcake' in the final scene as more to do with Caitlyn's class. Caitlyn calls her 'Violet', which reminds Vi of her childhood, when she was last happy. Because Caitlyn is high-born, she was never given a nickname - her birth name wasn't even shortened to 'Cait'. In this way, each of them is showing intimate understanding of each other. For the first time, saying 'Cupcake' is ironic: it betrays the playful affection that Vi feels for the other woman, and makes her feel valued and loved, rather than belittled and mocked.
I think at that moment, after being called by her name, Violet, by Caitlyn, Vi wanted to show in a more informal but at the same time loving and protective way, that after everything they had been through together, she would be there with her, for her, by her, and nothing would take her away from there. Tks for one more great video about CaitVi, looking forward for the next.🙂
agreed! i saw some people saying Vi was hiding something and i definitely dont agree. makes much more sense to me that, although she was still grieving, she didnt want Cait to worry too much about it - and she knows she'll get better with some time also, i LOVE the way you analyze all the small details and microinteractions, i'm here for it! cheers from Brasil 🇧🇷
I can see it as a way of Vi saying that she's grieving, and hurting a whole lot, and that it will take quite a bit to get over all that, but them being together, as a sort of anchor to each other is going to be of great help, and that somewhat flirty tone (not overly flirty tho) indicates that she's very slowly starting that process...
ekko furiously being like I Am Not Looking, I Do Not See It in the background of that gayass hug sends me every time. i generally agree with you, but the cupcake nickname has shifted meaning a few times, from mocking to fond at the beginning, and then used as a callback in 2x8. vi explicitly confirmed that she calls cait cupcake because vi thinks she's sweet, so she uses it like an olive branch there. cait is shocked, stiff and avoidant until the hilarious lesbian sleeper activation shot where vi says she still thinks of her like that, that there's a chance if cait still wants it. then at the end it really just felt like the equivalent of 'sweetheart' or something. an established pet name and a marker of intimacy just like cait dropping the full 'violet' there.
Please come back! Please, Violet! God I love your essays ❤❤❤ Tysm for putting the words on this, everytime I learn something new about CaitVi I love them more, and your essays clearly are in no small part responsible for that love ❤
Thank you for all your arcane/caitvi videos❤. I'm still having a hard time thinking that we will not see them again. This is a very nice analisys, very much in charcacter for Vi since she is still somehow "protecting" but in a healtier way. I think she also shielding herself a little with the pet name, and wanting to say "I'm here and I'll stay but I'm hurting and I need time, please stay with my but don't push me right know", knowing that Caitlyn would understard. I wanted to ask you what you think of VI character being pushed aside this season and not having a real time to shine apart from the romantic scenes which are shared with Cait. Even if I kind of understard her arc, I also agree that the writers did not treat her all that well (and reading that Linke basically admitted he was not interested in her anymore after building her so well in the first season really saddened me). I'm interested in your take on this since I trust your opinion a lot😊 Also, sorry for my English😅.
Beautiful. And genious like everything you do. Love your channel and this analysis you make about this too. Make what ever you want and enjoy it, dont be bothered by morons that just want to bw annoying. Thanks for every video of this pair. Has been wonderful.
One more area of analysis can be the Ambassa, Maddie and Caitlyn dynamics. I still think we’re missing a lot over there. And how vi enters it after that build up of cait, ambassa and maddie in act one and two. And how is the arc of those 4 characters ended respectively. I’ve also encountered a post on Reddit speculating that cait parted ways with maddie in the second memorial scene, it was mostly in act 2. And other possibility which is not much talked about is that maybe caitlyn being the Sherlock of arcane, used maddie maddie for emotional(like fulfilling her mother’s wish by being with someone with upper standards, but it didn’t workout as she always had vi in her mind while being with maddie) and professional (to get third person views on piltover and ambessa) purposes and parted ways after making the final decision (when at memorial, maybe because she figured out that she’ll part ways with ambessa, as she was probably interrogating the camp before vi followed singed over there; and parted ways with maddie as she might have just reminded herself that the last communication of her with her mother was her mother allowing cait to go after vi and also because she couldn’t bare her lying to herself about being with maddie. Even thought she wasn’t sure if she’ll get a chance to be with vi after that), which made maddie finally go rogue and accept ambess’s double agent role. I would be pleased to have your analysis on these 2 topics. Just keep it up until a next caitvi spinoff is confirmed 😅 it really helps to keep going.
I love your analysis! Also can you talk about Vi becoming enforcer is whether right or wrong?. Some people said that being an enforcer is out of her character and her journey becoming one is not persuasive. I want to know your thoughts about this issue.
For me, the nickname “Cupcake” in Vi’s speeches represents flirting and openness, rather than protection or uncertainty. Every time she says it, it’s like she’s showing some interest in Cait. If we replaced that nickname with Cait’s real name-Cait or Caitlyn-the scene would lose its romantic undertone; it would just be one girl having a conversation with another. However, when Vi calls her “Cupcake,” the scene feels more intimate. To me, when Vi addresses Cait as “Cait,” it signifies a serious moment, but when she calls her “Cupcake,” she seems to let herself get closer to her.
😅lol ...the Maddie hate meter still going strong. Put that clip in every video essay even if it has nothing to do with Arcane 🤭 Anyway, whenever Vi is not avoiding by running away, she is being sarcastic...very predictable indeed 😏. Unfortunately 7 years in one place, in jail doesn't allow Vi to be as complex as Cait or Jinx. She is in constant fight or flight mode. The last scene is the only moment Vi *appeared to be calmed and at ease (a little distant) The moment she started humming that childhood song Mommy Caitlyn noticed and went to her. Through that question "Are you still in that fight Violet?" ...Vi's answer was subliminal. I gathered that she will run to Jinx but will return home where the heart is {in between Caitlyn's arms 🥰} hence calling her cupcake 🧁 However, during their intimate moment in the dungeon, Vi said "Cait I don't fck care" ...meaning when she is serious enough she call her Cait
I just posted an in-depth analysis of this final Caitvi scene... but I did not focus so much on the use of "Cupcake"! Your theory is very interesting. I simply interpreted it as a funny nickname to shift the tone from serious to a slightly joking one. I focused more on interpreting the metaphor of the "dirt under your nails", and why Vi states their bond in this unusual way, and how it is linked to other elements of their story. I feel a bit dumb for not having considered more the use of "Cupcake" in this scene, but my analysis works even with your interpretation of it as a shield, luckily. I guess it's just a beginner's mistake ahah. Also, are you planning to analyse further why Vi uses this nickname here as a shiled not for herself but for another person? It's strange that it only happens here, maybe there is even more to uncover.
I think that at this point the word "cupcake" has become a code, like a message that just caitlyn can understand. After jinx' s attack to caitlyn' s mother, everytime vi chose a side between jinx or caitlyn she lost the other. Being alone to face her pain, alone like she was in Stillwater. In fact the only way she knows how to keep going alone is by fighting, and thats what she becomes after losing both cailtyn and jinx. But this time is different, when she goes to free jinx from the cell, cailtyn comes back to her, not being mad however accepting vi's love for her sister. During the fight even jinx came back to her, showing that all her effort was worth something to bring her back. However after this fight, vi looses her sister and her father again, but this time she is not prisoned in Stillwater alone, she has cait. So she can be vulnarable and admitt to her: "yes im not gonna leave you, im here now, but im suffering like ever, so could you please comfort me? Bc alone I can only handle grief by fighting, with you I can open up and remember them" ( in fact she is singing jinx's tune )
Thanks for your videos, I always enjoy watching them. I hope that one day we can see these two girls again but I have a feeling though, that there won't be any CaitVi spin-off, because it seems like Arcane was a financial flop.
I was curious to know whether you think Cupcake is an avoidant term, a playful term or a way for Vi to signify deep emotions. Vi is known for her tough, no-nonsense exterior, and calling Caitlyn "Cupcake" can be seen as a way for her to show affection without being overly vulnerable. It's a way for her to soften her interactions with Caitlyn while still maintaining her hard-edged persona (excluding the start and end scene). What do you think?
Honestly Cait and Vi's romance is one of the best written I have ever seen. So much is non verbal and the progression from the "Who the hell are you?" to "I'm the dirt underneath your fingers" is very organic. It feels like it will be a loss if we don't get more of them in the future.
Also the thought of Ekko on the bridge being the awkward 3rd wheel makes me chuckle. He is probably thinking "Didn't you guys meet like yesterday or something?" Then the 4th wheel comes in and tries to murder the other 3 wheels.

“Violets and Cupcakes” sounds like some sort of old animated short film don’t you think? Also, great video as always btw!❤

Thank you for all your arcane/caitvi videos❤. I'm still having a hard time thinking that we will not see them again.
This is a very nice analisys, very much in charcacter for Vi since she is still somehow "protecting" but in a healtier way. Wake up ya'll, queen posted!! (These videos are amazing and changed my views on Arcane)
I put a lot of meaning in Caitlyn's final look (of concern?), but maybe I am overanalyzing everything 😅 Great videos ❤
Great video! :)
Thank you for explanation! Now I have more understanding about how they’re close
🧁Awesome essay as always 🥰Much love thanks so much Ola🧁
Third and also wonderful vid❤❤

@@M49-v7x yes I can make a video!
In The Witcher, I can call Yennefer a cupcake and Triss a sweetheart.
YAYYY
😅lol ...the Maddie hate meter still going strong. Put that clip in every video essay even if it has nothing to do with Arcane 🤭
Anyway, whenever Vi is not avoiding by running away, she is being sarcastic...very predictable indeed 😏.
I gathered that she will run to Jinx but will return home where the heart is {in between Caitlyn's arms 🥰} hence calling her cupcake 🧁
However, during their intimate moment in the dungeon, Vi said "Cait I don't fck care" ...meaning when she is serious enough she call her Cait
Is like she's implying she won't get away from Cait, that she's there to stay, and that she's going thru her grief by Cait's side...
i love you Arcane videos! thank you! can you do Evangelion?
Thanks! Never seen it, what’s good about it?
I just posted an in-depth analysis of this final Caitvi scene... but I did not focus so much on the use of "Cupcake"! Your theory is very interesting. I simply interpreted it as a funny nickname to shift the tone from serious to a slightly joking one.
❤❤
I was curious to know whether you think Cupcake is an avoidant term, a playful term or a way for Vi to signify deep emotions. Vi is known for her tough, no-nonsense exterior, and calling Caitlyn "Cupcake" can be seen as a way for her to show affection without being overly vulnerable. It's a way for her to soften her interactions with Caitlyn while still maintaining her hard-edged persona (excluding the start and end scene). What do you think?
Came second 😊
She thought she was hot 🤷♀️ Jk
Just gotta say 1st

You... you comment in a video that its not of your interest just to being rude. Don't you have other things to do?

I didn't know In League of Legends, Caitlyn has a trap ability called "Yordle Snap Trap", which places cupcake-shaped traps to snare enemies. 🧁
