  • A drag race would be nice, but we have to contend with these individual videos. See what RPMs they shift at?
    Normal driving, no drag racing nor extremely aggressive behavior. What to expect when you punch the go pedal.
    Also note, that as much as these numbers might seem slower compared to official specs, they actually perform very well beside other cars on the road.

    this m56 should be faster...

      What do you mean, that they should have more power from the factory or? This one in the video is under 5 seconds under normal driving

    What's that clicking noise in the 08 when you accelerated? I am in the market for an M and I'm debating between getting a solid clean M45 or spending the money on the M56 I worked as sales manager for an infiniti dealership awhile back for yeats

      Andrew Donges, around the 00:58 mark? I'd say it was just something loose in the storage cubbies. Nothing serious from the drivetrain that I can think of. I've got sentinel senses when it comes to noises, smells and anything else that feels off in the car.

    The 56 gets there in a hurry. I have an 08 45 S, it feels fast and it is, but I've been surprised at the 'also rans' that can hang with me off a light. The 56 might be the ticket

    • @EdBwoy

      +Mike T. No lie. The M56 should be sold with a HANS device. It goes 0-100 real quick and also slows down real fast.
      It breaks traction on the stock tires easily enough.
      VDC on the M45 is just a nanny, on the M56 it's your guardian angel because the car will go sideways into a curb or ditch.

    • @liblib89
      @liblib89 5 лет назад

      So on the M56 the VDC and traction control can be defeated? Cause I know on my M45 when I turn off the assists they still kick on and don't let you hang the tail out or anything fun@@EdBwoy

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  5 лет назад

      @@liblib89 I think the m56 behaves like the Y50 m45. Honestly, I don't abuse my cars to the point of doing standing burnouts or donuts, but I have driven spiritedly enough in a U-turn to see the tail end come around.
      What does your car do when you try to slide with the VDC button pushed in?

    Thanks for sharing this. I have an 06 M45S and have always wanted the M56S as well. Interestingly a while back was at the local drag strip and there was an M56 that couldn't beat my M45. I know the 56 should be faster so maybe It was driver error.

      +FlawleZ31 You're welcome. Glad these videos do offer some insight.
      Is your M45 modded? I don't think stock I'd beat the 56 in a straight line, even in standard mode. I haven't experienced the lag that some reported when it gets hot yet.
      Or maybe the driver tried to get fancy and shift manually.

      EdBwoy I just have drop in K&N filter and 2* timing advance. I have since added the Megan axle back but don't think it does much without the mid pipe and a tune. I think the 56 driver just wasn't having a good night. Unfortunately I'm starting to put money that would be for mods into general maintenance and fixed.
      Your video with the headliner removal was helpful too I needed to replace my shark fin antenna and decided to just pull rear seats and pillars.

      The V8 has nice torque and never feels like it needs to "wind up", so I like that for it. The Gs are very sporty though, so test drive one before you hand over the money.

    I understand that you chose not to manual shift for consistency, but you are leaving a lot of rpm on the table when you let the transmission shift itself. These transmissions like to upshift really early which hurts performance more than many people realize. The VK45DE specifically makes it's peak power at 6400 rpm, which in the video neither M45 reached in first gear. I have a 2004 Infiniti M45 which can keep up with cars that should be able to put it in it's place, as long as I get every rev out of every gear. At any rate, great video and nice Infiniti's!

      Thank you. I do wish I had a crew and more time on my hands to make better laid out and more detailed videos.
      With regards to the manual vs auto, you are right. Leaving them all in auto was for consistency as well as reflecting what an everyday driver would do, such as trying to beat a yellow light.
      With the 03, even if I held the manual gear at 1st, it would still shift. With all the other M45s I have owned, the fuel will cut off in 1st gear at 5,500 rpm... but I suppose that might have more to do with being in half throttle. Having the pedal to the metal opens it up a little.

      I was cooped up at home recovering and needed to get out of the house, so I can't remember too much detail behind my limitations back then. I know for sure I wasn't trying to attract the wrong attention by going sideways and peeling out in traffic. Maybe one day this experiment will be repeated. My wish is to be able to do the Motor Trend format of the World's greatest drag race.
      Until then, enjoy these shaky one-handed videos. lol. I hope whatever they lack in flair, they make up for in straightforward illustration.

      I am assuming that Infiniti changed the 2004 M45 transmission control, because I am able to hold any gear to the rev limiter(around 6800 rpm)and the transmission will not upshift until I manually shift. Therefore, when I am going full throttle, I tend to upshift between redline(6600 rpm) and the rev limiter(6800 rpm) to take full advantage of both the engine power and gearing. Most vehicles accelerate the quickest using this method, although most people don't realize this.

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  6 лет назад

      Yes, they did. And some of the q45s also had interesting auto-shift behavior.

    • @joshewin4619
      @joshewin4619 6 лет назад

      The optimum shift point from 1st to 2nd on the M56 is very low. If you let it hit hi-revs, it will jerk a bit on that shift. Still, floor321 is right, manual shift on this bad girl is better,

      I had an 06 M45, had to replace the motor with an 08. With aggressive driving in manual/sport mode, I would shift but there was a delay. Even with an Uprev tune, there was a delay. Definetely took the excitement out of driving.
