    I bought one of these for £699 in November 2022
    At that price l would give it 10/10
    However there are a couple of things worth mentioning.
    The bars are fairly flat, l threw on a set of Race Face risers l had in the garage and it's much better.
    The front chainring is a 28 which is very low. ln bottom gear you spin out at under 3mph
    For most people the bottom two gears are useless. The top gear is too low for road riding or descent, max speed is around 16mph unless you pedal like crazy.
    The SAMOX branded chainset is impossible to get parts for, the chainring is bolted on but is very small and nobody does a replacement. l emailed SAMOX from their website "help" but received no response.
    l replaced the chainset with a Shimano CUES (32t ring) which transformed the bike for road and trail use.
    The bottom two gears are now useable and the bike can be ridden on the road at up to 20mph.
    You'll need to replace the chain, two extra links needed.

    Thanks mate, just seen this on sale for £699 and as a roadie I don’t know too much about MTBs, this was just the type of review I needed to make an informed decision. Going to make the purchase 👍

    I'm after a new kona, I take it you can fit a double chain set? That's what the second cable hole is for on the down tube, for the front gear cable? I would never want a oneby because what's the top speed on it? Not everywhere is up hill and unlike other people I don't drive so I have to ride to the hills and I want a bike that will move so I would fit a double chain set to it. Great video by the way.

    • @thefrothybikeco
      @thefrothybikeco  3 года назад +1

      Certainly front double chainset can be fitted, it would require new cranks and a few other parts. Give us a call at the shop we can help you with specific details

    • @ondrejmanych5688
      @ondrejmanych5688 2 года назад

      there are two holes for cables, one for a dropper and one for front derailleur, you will be good to go. You will only need new crankset and shifter/front D. Maybe fiddle with a chain a little, depends on the gears you want.

    You say you like the square taper bottom bracket, but there are videos of other people (mostly "pro" riders) who hate them and always suggest replacing them with something else.
    Why is there hate for it, if you as a mechanic say they are "bomb proof?"

    Hello. I have that same bike, but I want to change the chainring from 28t to 32t. What is the BCD measurement of the cinder cone 2022? do you recommend any brand of chainring?

    • @oldcargeezer
      @oldcargeezer 8 месяцев назад +1

      The new Shimano CUES 32t chainset is cheap and fits perfectly, you'll need a new chain.
      Add two links to the chain length if fitting the 32t
      The bike is transformed with the 32t. Can now do 20mph without spinning out and the bottom two gears are actually useable.
      Even with the 32t find myself in third gear on all but the steepest climbs, so don't worry about the low gears no longer being low enough! The standard crank arm length is 175mm
      The Shimano crank comes in 170 and 175, 30t and 32t
      l don't think the 30t would be enough of a difference.

    can I fit a 30 or 32t front sprocket?
    I see the 28 is wide tooth is that required? What is the spec on the screw spacing? Gearing is too low for flat Florida...

    • @oldcargeezer
      @oldcargeezer 8 месяцев назад +2

      You can't get a replacement ring for the chainset, you'll need to replace the whole thing. The Shimano CUES is only £45 (30t or 32t) Fit the 32t, it transforms the bike

      @@oldcargeezerI actually spoke to Kona only to discover that this, and so many other aspects of this bike made it hard to adapt. I bought a bike with a 3-ring front and all is good now. The new one is a little heavy but built like a tank!

    Hello, can you fit car type valves in the rims of the cinder cone only I see that ones got presta?

    • @thefrothybikeco
      @thefrothybikeco  2 года назад +1

      unfortunately not, as the hole is to small in the rim. You can buy a small adaptor for the presta valves usually brass that will convert from presta to schrader valve
