I'm SO GLAD you said that, it's been so long since i've actually thought about WW, that I was sitting here wondering why the motifs felt like they came from the 2011 music disc that came with SS
the horns compliment well also, just a wall of beautiful sound when the chorus comes in with the subtle choir to accompany. The percussion at a pace that reminds you you’re still in a fight, the wind instruments light and airy, this is the wind temple after all. It wouldn’t be a zelda game without top tier music composition to glue everything together
I discovered the "dive-through-the-weak-spot" mechanic by accident! We were down to the last hit on Colgera, and it seemed fitting to give Tulin the last shot, so we dove for it together. I kept waiting and waiting for him to take the shot, but he didn't. Then we smashed through the weak spot together, face first. It was AWESOME!

@@fawful94 yes! It absolutely does! :D So you can fight it and listen to this banger of a boss theme as much as you want. There’s three Colgera battles in the depths. People have made maps of where each boss is in the depths
I absolutely love that they keep reusing the Dragon Roost Island theme! When I first heard this in the game I got goosebumps and had a big smile on my face
This is my favorite theme in TOTK!!! I thought none of the Rito people remembered Revali because the divine beast was gone, and there were no statues or stone monuments for Revali in the village. I know I was wrong when I heard the Rito song in the boss fight. Revali's spirit lives in every Rito, and every one of them, including those young Rito, can be a great warrior just like him to fight against Ganondorf and protect their tribe!
I remember that Tulin was also one of the few people that Revali genuinely was impressed by. While still being a chick. And look at him now. He only needed a few feathers ruffled, but he is already at Revalis level in Marksmanship.
I like to imagine revali is watching from above witnessing his successor and former enemy fight alongside each other to save Rito Village and wanting to help, but having to rely on his former rival to save the Rito as he did before with the divine beast
Everyones all about the dive through the weak spots, but hear me out- dropping down, just out of harms way as Colgera appears underneath you. Then hitting that bullet time while youre horizontal, and unleashing arrows on the weak spots as they pass you. That felt just as epic
I’ve fought him a ton in the depths which you can do after beating him, and when I use the diving it always ends up where the dragon roost island motif is playing right as I dive through the final part, it’s so epic.
@@SeenAGreatLight Yeah, there are three locations in the Depths where you can fight Colgera again. Defeating it does give you a Colgera Jaw, but the material is too big to put in your inventory, and it does NOT count as a bone material (its power will "not" be boosted by the Bone Proficiency set bonus).
This theme is what I think makes Colgera a great boss. Yeah, it's easy, but the whole setting of you fighting it so height up the air with sky ark under you and with this theme blasting ( especially the last part when the choir kicks in) it makes you feel epic. Honestly, in a way, this fight is what Dark Beast gannon should have been
Its such a weird choice that they never let you fight the form of Ganon that swirls around the castle, it was such a huge part of the marketing yet you never encounter it in-game.
The journey to the temple, the Wind Temple itself and the boss are all one big love letter for the Wind Waker fans. Might have been the first temple and easy for many, but it was definitely memorable for the scenery, environment and callbacks with the soundtrack!
It was the 3rd temple for me, and I agree it is cinematically/musically the best of the four regions. I enjoyed the story and boss-fight mechanics of the Gerudo area (2nd temple) the most, however.
I can't think of a single boss in the entire franchise that I enjoyed as much as this one. Going in blind, I had no clue you could shoot arrows at it's underside. I just instinctively faught it by diving, and it was easily one of the coolest, most exciting fights I've experienced in the -entire- Legend of Zelda library. I'm so glad this game came out as good as it did.
See, I instinctively used arrows on the weak point, as they had given you lots of arrows in the dungeon and Tulin had a bow. I only learned later through somebody else playing that you can dive, and used that knowledge when I saw Colgera again in the depths.
@@Dipped1234I thought you had to dive because when you are getting up to the dungeon itself you fall/smash into a bunch of ice blocks so I just instinctively dived into them
The windy effect you hear in the strings (where they slide up and down the scale) reminds me of old Disney movies and cartoons where they'd use that to emphasize wind!
While listening to this, make sure to picture Tulin as the flute, Link as the horn/trumpet, and Colgera/Ganon’s influence as the bass in the background. This song alone gives full context of the fight start to finish.
Colgera is a reference to molgera from wind waker wind temple and I remember molgera having the best music from ww and they did not fail to live up to expectations Edit:holy mother of holyness im famous
Actually this very much did not live up to my expectations that it would sound anything like the Molgera theme. Besides using a recorder for the lead instrument, the two themes have nothing in common melodically, harmonically, or rhythmically. They even have vastly different tempos. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic piece, but when I saw the name “Colgera” I was really hoping for a musical reference that wasn’t just Dragonroost again.
I mean, yeah on another listen it does sound vaguely like Molgera, but like, if that is Molgera it’s backwards and inverted or something, and before you as a listener have the chance to figure it out the Dragonroost theme comes screaming in. Tbh I didn’t hear any of that when I fought the boss bc it takes about 3 seconds to kill once you figure it out. Friggin’ over-composed boss fight music…
Very Yoko Shimura styled. The musical references to Molgera, Tp boss weak theme and dragon roost are phenomenal. this is what makes me love Zelda music.
I’ve been listening to the Molgera theme and trying to find the reference in here but I haven’t been able to find it. Can you please put a timestamp if you know where it is?

as someone who's only other zelda game beaten other than BOTW being windwaker, this theme actually made me tear up a bit, the hero of the wind would be so damn proud...
even though the fight is easy, it was the closest i’ve been to feeling like an actual child playing a video game in the last 10ish years, more than any other game. hats fucking off to nintendo
i dunno if anyone else has noticed this, but you can hear the accordion in some parts throughout (like at 8:07 for instance)--it's so subtle but a wonderful nod to Kass. the composer(s) showed such creativity and thoughtfulness with this piece.
The accordion is also the lead instrument in Revali's theme. Now I wonder, what the hell happened to Kass? He's basically the only semi-major characters from BotW that's just GONE.
I cannot wait for an official orchestra version of this song. It'll probably not be possible for me but if I ever get to see this live I think I'd bawl my eyes out
the vocals in reverse sprinkled throughout the music add such a nice touch to an already amazing ost, also thematically fitting with the other enemies affected by the gloom
I liked Teba in BotW, but compared to the other Champion descendants, he left a lot to be desired. Tulin was such an awesome change to the line-up of Sages.
Especially when you think of it, perhaps Revali was once like Tulin, thinking he could do everything on his own. But Link changed Tulin. He showed him how high he could soar with the support of his friends and comrades, and imo, surpassed Revali.
Also, as shown through the Age of Calamity DLC, Revali was genuinely impressed by Tulin’s ability, even as a chick, and thought he’d possibly one day surpass Revali, once he grew up, of course. And what do you know, now he’s the new sage of wind.
Can’t get over how good this theme is. The ascending and descending lines are like a swirling snowstorm, and the strings are perfect for the wind. Just so many small details! Awesome fight and awesome music. Gives me chills, appropriately enough.
I genuinely love how the Rito village's leitmotif (Roost Island, I think?) knocks it out of the park! The meek melody present in the snowed in village, like a weak voice in a storm, swells up for you during the fight. It's as if the whole Rito people were rooting for you to defeat the monstrosity that brought it to its knees.
I LOVE the Rito Village motif in here. Like, the outcome of this entire battle decides the fate of the Rito Village. Will it fall or triumph? Everyone in the villages has their eyes on Tulin, and they all believe he will come out victorious!
i held off on an easy final shot to wait for a cooler feeling kill, and ended up getting hit and accidentally ragdolling through the weak point as he flew up past me. i laughed so hard, i wanted to end the fight with some intense move, but ended up with the most memorable killing blow i could have stumbled into
I LOOOVEE the musical references in this theme. The most "obvious" one is the big epic phrase during the chorus, with the voices. It's played in the Rito Village theme in BotW. The first time it hits with just the voices is simply heartbreaking. Then the second times hits, with the high flutes joining as if the Ritos were just crying to cheer you up, it's just SOOOO EPIIC. Relistening to it brings a tear to my eye. Another one is the ostinato figure (the four notes going up repeating), which are the same as in the Attack on Vah Medoh theme ! It really ties the "attack on a big mean flying thing" togheter. (You can hear it alone at 11:16). I honestly liked the Ritos and Revali's quest in BotW, so it meant a lot to hear it again.
I love this for so many reasons. First, it takes a lot of the same elements from the ascent to the wind temple which makes for great continuity. The ascent was so epic in its own right. It’s like slowly getting closer and closer to a spooky noise as the stakes increase. Second, all the wind instruments in the theme are a great touch to the wind temple. Third, there are several nods to past theme songs from prior games. It’s all meaningfully well thought out fan service and we’re here for it.
NGL I did the wind temple first and although all the main temples were cool, none of them lived up to the first one. Not even close. This shit was so hype.
There's so many nods to Wind Waker In botw and totk and Nintendo SHOULD be proud. WW was monumental. It was hated at first and then everyone played it and enjoyed the hell out of it. The music is the best to some from Nintendo from a Zelda game and a lot of those themes hold a special place in people's minds and hearts. The Dragon Roost Island nod in botw and totk and the nod to Molgera in this theme. It's so good! Nintendo knows what we love.
@@minecrafter3448 Eh it didn't have that hype factor in the execution, that's more what we talking about here I think. Like with Calamity Ganon I just didn't feel that hyped while doing the fight. It had hype leading up to it but the experience just wasn't it. Comparatively, the music and diving through Colgera to do damage got me actively hyped during the fight because it felt incredibly cool in the moment.
the song's call back to dragon roost island brings tears to my eyes. i love how much emotion and love is poured into zelda's soundtracks, especially boss themes. they never disappoint
Ok so I’m here for like, the third time and I’m convinced that the flute that leads with the main melody of þe boss is 100 percent Tulin! French Horn is Link (bc he’s a hero, naturally) and Tulin is a flute in the melody. I like to believe Link was pure support in the canon of this boss fight and it was Tulin that was mainly fighting the boss.

@@wesnohathas1993 oh definitely, I just didn't know you could even go back to the surface during the Colgera fight to cook without the music stopping. I would definitely not have thought to check.
It was sad no Rito mentioned Revali or anything of the sort in the game. But his spirit lives on within the music. He was the price of the Rito and it’s so heartwarming hearing his themes in both the Wind Temple Dungeon theme and Colgera fight.
Despite it being arguably one of the easier bosses the sheer size of it and terror this invoked in me was insane, I was literally on the edge of my seat screaming for my life when it sent out like 7 different tornados while flying up from below and only dodging it's mouth by an inch. And don't even get me started on when I went down to the depths in the Hebra region only for Colgera to fly out of the darkness right at me as the boss music kicked in.
I'll be honest. I died to this boss when it was one hit away from dying because I walked in with low hp and didn't take the tornado warnings seriously. So always beware of a tornado warning, whether its in a game or in real life. On the bright side tho, I got to fight it again because of that.
This is by far the best Boss music in the game in my opinion. I don't know why but i don't remember hearing the other bosses music while fighting them, i was just too focus on beating them that i never heard the battle theme of the others. I'll need to pay better attention next time i fight them.
I went for the belly, it never occurred to me that there was any other way. I heard the whole thing, because it took me longer than probably necessary to get that one down, because the camera was all over the place for this boss. 😂 Not because I’ve forgotten how challenging TLoZ bosses can be. Really. X,D I loved the Rito theme, though. Even if someone else had to point that out first, because I was so stressed during that boss fight I couldn’t even concentrate on those things.
Sometimes, Zelda music can feel like an Easter egg hunt, and not in a good way. They’ll just throw together a theme with a reference or two to other titles and call it a day. But THIS… this is a true love letter to the songs that inspired it. The way they save that immaculate chorus of Dragon Roost till the end, mixing in hints of Molgera along the way… it’s pure gold. Already on my top 10 list for Zelda songs for sure.
This soundtrack... is definitely one of my favorites. TOTK and BOTW are both just such special games... from the music to the cinematics to the combat system to the characters and their story arcs... it takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes (puns intended).
soon as I saw the name my heart fluttered with joy. wind waker was my first game and seeing molgera referenced in the wind temple no less got me to go wild
We've come a long way since slowly flying between Vah Medoh's hardly dangerous cannons and headshoting Windblight Ganon 50 times. This feels like it would fit as the flight segment of a Kid Icarus Uprising level.
This is the only boss battle that I wish hadn't ended as early as it did. The rush of adrenaline from diving through each segment, paired with one of the most epic boss themes I've heard in years. Most bosses test your skill at the game, and this one did, to an extent. But at the end of the day TotK is a game about adventure. You're a legendary knight, on an adventure to explore the world and defeat the demon king. This spirit of adventure is captured perfectly in Colgera's theme. Sometimes melancholic, sometimes joyful, always pushing you onwards. Urging you to finish the battle, and to keep moving onward from there. It's such a simple melody, but done so flawlessly that my adrenaline was pumping even though it was a rather easy boss. When I replay TotK, a large part of the reason why I'll begin anew is for this boss fight.
This fight…with the theme and the set piece…made me feel like…a legendary hero. Like… The Links of the past were born, fought, and DIED for you to get to this moment… Ugh. One of my favorite bosses in the whole series.
It's been two months, and I can't get this song out of my head. The use of wind instruments here is absolutely genius and the inclusion of Dragon Roost Island/Rito Village's theme is the cherry on top! The energy makes me feel like the wind is dancing around me as I glide around Colgera, and it's a thrill that I don't seem to get from the other bosses. These themes will definitely be my favorite Zelda boss themes for a long time to come...
I liked how the music changes each time you damage Colgera. But when I first fought the boss, I was under the impression that I had to fire arrows that were fused with Fire Fruits at the weak spots; a tactic that's more effective if you have any of the Lynel Bows by your side.
It's clear the most time and effort was put into this theme, this temple and Tulin's story. Nothing else in the entire game compares to the hype I felt during this moment.
This game recommends you to go to Rito Village. Wind Waker fans fighting this boss (including me myself): this is where Zelda is peak, a Wind Temple and another "Gera" bossfight. Now we got Molgera, (Molduga counts sorta as one), and Colgera. So glad for Wind Temple to have a colder theme compared to Wind Waker's one being ancient and tall, with weirdly sand as the aesthetic for the boss.
11:40 hits so hard genuine eyes wide open moment for me!! I listened to this on headphones and the wind instrument work is top notch omg (and the horns too!)
I like to believe the flute could represent tulin especially when it joins the choir in the dragon roost island leitmotif, although that probably wasn’t the intention
It's funny that the phases in this order frames the battle differently. Where as the in game order reflects the 2 phase battle, this one's more like a single intro -> significant struggle -> big turnabout to victory. I'm glad both orderings are being kept 👍
The best part of this theme is that there's all sorts of references to other music in previous zelda games but you don't need to know the references to enjoy the song because it just goes hard in general
I first heard this theme last night and thought it was epic. Then the melody from molgera came in which is my favorite music from any zelda game to date and I almost shed a tear. This whole theme is so ridiculous and the amount of phases composed for one fight that lasts about 10 minutes. I have only done one temple so far but this was such a step up over the complaints that I had with breath of the wild. This whole segment reminded me of the classic pre botw formula and I couldnt be happier because although I am in the minority. I never wanted zelda to change, botw to me barely even felt like a zelda game, people got bored of the the formula but for me personally, that forumla is what I went to zelda for and why its my favorite frsnchise
Man, I cheesed the fight (killed it in 2min) with bombarrows and didn't appreciate as much as I could this epic soundtrack. What a bummer. If TotK is teaching me is that sometimes the most efficient way to play is not the most fun...
I spent most of my time in the bossfights of this game trying to take a good picture for my compensium, which conveniently also allowed me to give the music a good listen.
Man.. When the theme hits.. I just blown by nostalgia and remember.. Its Wind Waker, the structure of dungeon have lots of ship and then the theme and even the boss.
The reason this boss fight was so epic was because the Nintendo Devs put extra effort into making it so they could test out the physics engine for the final boss fight between Link, the Light Dragon, and the Demon Dragon - which I think was the best Zelda boss fight in the series.

the horns compliment well also, just a wall of beautiful sound when the chorus comes in with the subtle choir to accompany.

Hell yeah. I did that and hit all of the weak spots in a single bullet time. It was so satisfying 😩
This theme is what I think makes Colgera a great boss. Yeah, it's easy, but the whole setting of you fighting it so height up the air with sky ark under you and with this theme blasting ( especially the last part when the choir kicks in) it makes you feel epic.
@@Hail_Felidae23Both are really cool 🤝

@@Dipped1234I thought you had to dive because when you are getting up to the dungeon itself you fall/smash into a bunch of ice blocks so I just instinctively dived into them
Stallord and Argorok from Twilight Princess are the only other boss fights that were downright FUN.

Wilhelm Tell's "The Storm" :D
YES that’s exactly what it reminded me of. The music in this game is insanely good
Reminds me of some of the music from Pocahontas
While listening to this, make sure to picture Tulin as the flute, Link as the horn/trumpet, and Colgera/Ganon’s influence as the bass in the background. This song alone gives full context of the fight start to finish.

Colgera is a reference to molgera from wind waker wind temple and I remember molgera having the best music from ww and they did not fail to live up to expectations
Edit:holy mother of holyness im famous
Actually this very much did not live up to my expectations that it would sound anything like the Molgera theme. Besides using a recorder for the lead instrument, the two themes have nothing in common melodically, harmonically, or rhythmically. They even have vastly different tempos. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic piece, but when I saw the name “Colgera” I was really hoping for a musical reference that wasn’t just Dragonroost again.
@@Marsaw 8:50 seems to have a similar melody if you listen for it.

Ngl when I was fighting Colgera and I heard the Rito theme play, I screamed. It was so PERFECT!!
I LOVE the Rito Village motif in here. Like, the outcome of this entire battle decides the fate of the Rito Village. Will it fall or triumph? Everyone in the villages has their eyes on Tulin, and they all believe he will come out victorious!
i held off on an easy final shot to wait for a cooler feeling kill, and ended up getting hit and accidentally ragdolling through the weak point as he flew up past me.
i laughed so hard, i wanted to end the fight with some intense move, but ended up with the most memorable killing blow i could have stumbled into
I did the same thing (almost). Went for a dive, then proceeded to smack Link's head into a flying spike, and fall helplessly into the weak point!
Phase 1C and 2C are some of the best parts of a battle theme i’ve ever listened to.
Yes
NGL I did the wind temple first and although all the main temples were cool, none of them lived up to the first one. Not even close. This shit was so hype.
Everytime that climax hits I literally shed tears it is so good.
It’s incredible how it’s almost like the Rito are all telling you to go with their blessing and defeat Colgera
What i really love abt this song is that not only does it have a part from dragon roost island but it also has parts from vah meddoh

Jumpscare
I can totally see this as the credits music for an epic Zelda movie. I'd totally sit through just to listen to this track.
I'll be honest. I died to this boss when it was one hit away from dying because I walked in with low hp and didn't take the tornado warnings seriously. So always beware of a tornado warning, whether its in a game or in real life.
On the bright side tho, I got to fight it again because of that.
When 1C kicked in during the boss fight it gave me chills.

Fr, this fight gave me lots of nostalgia from other Zelda games, i missed this
We've come a long way since slowly flying between Vah Medoh's hardly dangerous cannons and headshoting Windblight Ganon 50 times.
Three words: gerudo desert re-fights
This fight…with the theme and the set piece…made me feel like…a legendary hero. Like…
The Links of the past were born, fought, and DIED for you to get to this moment…
Ugh.
This theme should be played in this year's Game Awards when they announced GOTY
12:01 that flute(or whatever instrument it is) is so damn good
Fr
FINALLY one that doesn't have legit negative volume, thank you!
It's clear the most time and effort was put into this theme, this temple and Tulin's story. Nothing else in the entire game compares to the hype I felt during this moment.
The game heavily advises you to complete the Hebra questline first, and I have to say, this is one hell of a first main boss.
0:36 can anybody else hear Mario 'Wah'?
It does sound like half of a Mario 'Wah', yeah.
It's funny that the phases in this order frames the battle differently.
Where as the in game order reflects the 2 phase battle, this one's more like a single intro -> significant struggle -> big turnabout to victory.
I'm glad both orderings are being kept 👍
The tears that fall when C comes in. The vocals.
The remix of Dragon Roost Island from Wind Waker in Part C in both Phase 1 & 2 alone makes this my favourite theme in the game
The best part of this theme is that there's all sorts of references to other music in previous zelda games but you don't need to know the references to enjoy the song because it just goes hard in general
I love how the music seems to represent the boss in the initial phase, and is more link-esque in the 3rd
still get chills when i think of the line "My Brave Fledgling"
I spent most of my time in the bossfights of this game trying to take a good picture for my compensium, which conveniently also allowed me to give the music a good listen.
when i heard the dragon roost leitmotif for the first time in-game it IMMEDIATELY became way cooler
Man.. When the theme hits.. I just blown by nostalgia and remember.. Its Wind Waker, the structure of dungeon have lots of ship and then the theme and even the boss.
Shoutout to peaceful motifs that become epic hype pieces in a boss fight, gotta be one of my favorite genders

Whoever used arrows in this battle, I'm really so sorry for you, Champion 😔
If only the other temples were as epic as this one
I just hunt it down to hear the music again. I also just shoot Colgera instead of diving through it, to prolong the battle and get more of that OST.
The reason this boss fight was so epic was because the Nintendo Devs put extra effort into making it so they could test out the physics engine for the final boss fight between Link, the Light Dragon, and the Demon Dragon - which I think was the best Zelda boss fight in the series.
