I've never been especially careful about roots when I transplant seedlings, especially if they've become root bound. I get better results from breaking up and untangling roots rather than leaving them how they grew in their pots. As long the plants isn't one that hates being transplanted (e.g. beans), my plants don't seem to suffer much from losing a few roots. Often they benefit.
E.g. One year I planted petunias a variety of ways. Some I babied and planted them directly from their individual cells, others I lightly teased their roots, and the rest I raked with a fork and removed about 10% of their total mass. The babied plants barely grew and came out of the ground the same way they went in (as a soil plug) after 4 months of growing. The plants with teased roots did exponentially better and grew 10x larger than the babied plants. The plants that had their roots raked were some of the largest, healthiest petunias of 64 total I planted that year. And I got similar results from my tomatoes, peppers, and several annuals.
You are absolutely right about the night time temperatures. It takes just one night where the forecast says 4 C and ends up being 0 C to destroy a tomato plant. And you are also right about the GRADUAL hardening. I have learned from my own mistakes in the past. Love your videos.

I’m a first time gardener at 70 yo. I used Winter Sowing because of a lack of space and funds for all that is involved with starting seeds indoors. I’m in NC 7b. I had only a few nights I was concerned with temps after germination. A blanket over the milk jugs was all they needed. No. I will never buy a grow light. I’ll use Mother Nature, thank you. The natural exposure to temperatures, light and wind gave me the healthiest plants I could ask for. Today, 5.12.23, my tomatoes are almost 3 ft. tall. They’ve been planted over a month.

Instead of cutting and wasting the plastic pot, go for 2.5 inch PVC pipe pieces on necessary length.
This organised on a proper support allows you to plant it directly along with the pipe segment. No root damage + you can reuse pipe piece any number of time.
Delving into growing is an excellent idea! Richter Herbs has a good catalog of herbs, particularly Medicinal herbs, the largest supplier I've seen yet. Strictly Medicinal has a smaller selection but sometimes extras. Consider anise, it's used in flavoring as well as fish biting stimulant as is asafoetida, which the latter tastes between onion and garlic but also used to prevent gas and was an excellent fish attractant too. I mention this as catering to fisherman and fisherwomen is good.

First time we have a disagreement Lady.
I put my tomatoes out past the frost date, But only with a 10 day forecast of above 45 low temperatures and soil above 50 degrees and filling very safe and I'm seeing growth within 3 days in my seedings.
Peppers need warmer, Soil temperatures 60s plus, Air temperatures need 50s usually 1.3 weeks after tomatoes.
Agree with the rest of this video as all your other great information, This is our first disagreement so yeah I still your fan

Hi there, haven't caught one of your videos for a while and always enjoy seeing you. You really do baby your seedlings, I don't have trouble being much less cautious. I never worry about too much sun as long as they don't go dry and I have great results every year, except for radishes and cilantro, which seem to bolt on me and then the radishes get too spicy and woody to eat.
I wasn't familiar with male blossoms, but I will try to pull some of those off this year and see how that goes :-)
Yes, zucchini have male and female blossoms. Ideally they bloom at the same time, but often the male bloom first in the beginning.

nice video as always. something had been bugging me for months, nicole seemed familiar to me (but with a different voice) as if i had seen her on tv acting or something, had a memory . then today i came across a tv rerun of Two & half men. There you have an english actress with the name of sophie winkleman. 95% identical, doppelganger . for me it is mystery solved, OCD satisfied. maybe this helps someone else's OCD with faces. I can now watch these videos in peace.

Yes, that's tricky! I would say if you could leave the plants outside in the shade, maybe in a protected place like a patio against the house, that's better than nothing. Then at least the plants are feeling the wind and getting some indirect sun.
