pewdiepie is an intellectual. i love this side of him where he explains concepts and makes you feel like you've learned something after watching a youtube video. i wonder what his take on philosophy, literature (he already has a literature club), etc would be. meme review and LWIAY are great, but its nice to see the serious side of felix.
Agreed. It may not appear entertaining to younger folk as it doesn't have the humorous quick pace to it (maybe some do), I find it humorous but most importantly intelligent as he explains and makes me think about things from both points of view. He always pics good topics to. Hmmmmmmm 10/10 for good tanacontent
Watching Ylyl and lwiay is a great way to get a laugh out of you on a bad day, intellectual pewdiepie vids are a great way to make you feel like a fucking genius just for watching someone else be smart
Was it really thought provoking though? I feel like like I left empty handed. He never really arrived at any rellevant points. As soon as he would build up to something that mattered he switched to another aspect of the film. It was like intellectual blue balls.
Verhoeven is known for five films. Each one is a relatively tongue-in cheek take on a major Hollywood trope. Robocop is about violence. Total Recall is about deception. Basic Instinct is about crime. Showgirls is about sex. Starship Troopers is about war. When you think about all these films, you can see the artist's perspective, but being blockbusters, most people don't see these as as artist's statement, but as plot-oriented narratives for whom _story_ is the primary purpose, like most big movies.
Sunny Jim Well not in depth in the same sense as an academic deconstruction, but still a good look into the ideas and principles behind a piece that has gained some notoriety but lacking context. I give Pewds credit when due, he did really good on this, as I too was not expecting the professional tone and relatively well rounded ideas he made regarding the film AND book, something which most folks ignore. It wasn’t half bad, this is an interesting turn, and I’m ready to ride lol.
This video is highly intriguing. I love how this “review” doesn’t just see if the movie is bad or not, or explore the story, but it delves deeper into its history and analyzes and compares it to our own society. Pewdiepie, these are the videos I subscribe to you for. Really asking those deep questions, and making people 🤔. Do your lwiay and ylyl for humor, and put this on your resume for whatever the next video streaming site is. 👍
Seems like PewDiePie used a script. He clearly had some very distinct things to say and chose a script to align his arguments. This is refreshing from the usual 'off the cuff' commentary. Way to go, for movie reviews, at least.
With this kind of topic, you really have to do a script or people will burn you alive in social media. Without out organizing his statement, it could easily be interpreted as fascist, or communist...or the Wall Street Journal or Polygon will try to twist things if the words are not carefully crafted when talking about anything political these days.
I may get lost in the sea of comments but as much as I love memes I love these serious videos even more, I thought this was a really cool video and I'm gkad I could learn about this interesting story, keep it up Felix this was a great video
they seem to get decent view counts and likes. I especially like his book reviews, even thought we have different tastes in books with small overlap. how many big youtubers are actually encouraging their audiences to read?
Vaultdweller 127 one of his best videos, imo. I totally agree his serious stuff and when he gives commentary on things is my favorite stuff. He’s a pretty smart guy. This is why book review and pew news will always be dear to me
I did not expect the swedish guy who screams "EAT" at his virtual pet to have such sophisticated and interesting things to say about a movie most of us have not even seen. I hope he makes more videos like this. Edit: Wait, this is over a year old, I thought this was new.
Oh my God Starship Troopers! I freaking love that movie!!! Thanks for talking about it Pewds! The movie is highly underrated and deserves more credit. Also you're right the movie was misunderstood by critics and audiences and the book was misunderstood by the director. It was wrong of the director to assume that the book was boring just because it wasn't his cup of tea, when the book itself had good reception and a fanbase behind it. However he did do a great job with the movie making a satire with excellent action and special effects critics and audiences completely misunderstood it and underrated it. To be honest I haven't read the book. But MAN I've got to find that book now! And watch the movie again it's been years since I have. Thankfully I have the DVD. Wouldn't it be awesome if we got a remake? Oh wait!!! I just remembered! There is a remake in the works!!! Now if we could only get a a big budget box office release remake/reboot of original Tremors as well!
Couldn't agree more. I loved this movie as a kid and loved quoting the over the top bits as a teenager. Read the book about a year ago and thought that was fantastic as well. I'm sorry I'm about to type this but I got a good chuckle when I though about this. Tanacon "Not much to look at after you scrap it off of your boot".
@@avastucki1702 As an American, I've never seen it as anything but a satire. This is just a tale of people reading way into something, and purposely not seeing the actual message. The media loves controversy and that's what makes money. So people choose to have problems with it, because they chose not to see the satire
It's worth noting this movie came out 22 years ago, and most (if not all) satirical movies before this were comedies (Airplane, Spaceballs) A satirical sci-fi action movie with a budget was not something people had seen before.
When I watched it as a kid I just thought it was a sci fi action movie and enjoyed it a lot. As an adult and after reading the book I now see the satire and enjoy it even more
To be fair, I wanted to join the army by seeing this movie and Rambo. But on growing up I saw Big Lebowski and this movie along with GoT changed my perspective on this world
Did you notice that Dougie Howser's uniform is that of a Wehrmacht officer's? The movie is played awfully campy, but it is up for debate as to what they are actually satirizing.
I've always taken it as, while the director opposes the book ideologically, the book itself would not have made for a fun movie. It would be like adapting Republic by Plato if the director plays it straight. Because the director love action movies and opposes the book ideology that we have the mindless fun yet satirical movie. If the movie has not been such fun and interesting satire, I would have never read the book to check things out.
@@lc9245 The whole thing though is that Ver Hoven basically things the ideology in the book is the same as hitlers. was why we're memeing on him failing to make a bad movie with the first film.
Awesome video. I also loved this movie when I was young but I got it. (I'm Australian). There is an old saying. "Nothing brings people together more than a mutual enemy"

pewdiepie is an intellectual. i love this side of him where he explains concepts and makes you feel like you've learned something after watching a youtube video. i wonder what his take on philosophy, literature (he already has a literature club), etc would be. meme review and LWIAY are great, but its nice to see the serious side of felix.
Dhiambi. yup I agree 100%, love the smart Felix videos
To Explain Starship Troppers is intellectual? 🤣😆🤣😆🤣 Best Joke of the Day 😆🤣😆🤣😆
Agreed. It may not appear entertaining to younger folk as it doesn't have the humorous quick pace to it (maybe some do), I find it humorous but most importantly intelligent as he explains and makes me think about things from both points of view. He always pics good topics to.
Hmmmmmmm
10/10 for good tanacontent
Watching Ylyl and lwiay is a great way to get a laugh out of you on a bad day, intellectual pewdiepie vids are a great way to make you feel like a fucking genius just for watching someone else be smart
PewDiePie's content ages like fine wine.
.... Fine wine kills you at a certain point. say 1000 yr old wine.
Fagdalf The Gay dat makes the comment so much better
We are back after 5 years. Helldivers really bring this back.😂😅
I'm from Italy, and I can guarantee you that here, Starship Troopers is considered a really fucking good scifi movie.
I personally love it.
I LOOOOVVVVE this movie too!
I grew up and watched this movie many times.. love it! All the other ones sucked.
In Germany too.
It is a great movie that shows us what would happen if there where no russia :D
It got allot of love here in the states too, it's a good movie.
Me too love it

I was about to cmt that😐
I’m surprised how refrained and serious this was, and I really like that. I hope you do more serious and thought provoking videos.
Was it really thought provoking though? I feel like like I left empty handed. He never really arrived at any rellevant points. As soon as he would build up to something that mattered he switched to another aspect of the film. It was like intellectual blue balls.
The Ginger It’s considered a cult classic the around the world.
Total Recall seems like it's about perception of reality, not deception.
@@DasAttorney Well, yes. It's about how deception can alter your perception of reality
I was expecting a goofy joke filled review, but was pleasantly surprised by an in depth and thought provoking discussion.
Nick Clark expect the unexpected you piece of shit
'In depth'.. really? Nah.
Its good to see Felix from time to time instead of Pewdiepie. Good job!

He’s saying he likes it when Felix is serious
This video is highly intriguing. I love how this “review” doesn’t just see if the movie is bad or not, or explore the story, but it delves deeper into its history and analyzes and compares it to our own society. Pewdiepie, these are the videos I subscribe to you for. Really asking those deep questions, and making people 🤔.
Do your lwiay and ylyl for humor, and put this on your resume for whatever the next video streaming site is. 👍
Im doing my part!
For democracy ✊🏼
Forget meme review,it time for movie reviews
Fck agree 100%
This video was awesome. I love seeing you try out new styles!
I love how your videos are so family friendly. I enjoyed watching this with my kids.
Escapa TV lol
"FOR DEMOCRACY!! " - Starship trooper

I remember playing with guns as a kid acting like these guys, now I’m playing helldivers 2.
I may get lost in the sea of comments but as much as I love memes I love these serious videos even more, I thought this was a really cool video and I'm gkad I could learn about this interesting story, keep it up Felix this was a great video
sadly not a lot of people are interested in the serious vids :C
These serious videos butter my croissant
they seem to get decent view counts and likes. I especially like his book reviews, even thought we have different tastes in books with small overlap. how many big youtubers are actually encouraging their audiences to read?
did you say loss?
Vaultdweller 127 one of his best videos, imo. I totally agree his serious stuff and when he gives commentary on things is my favorite stuff. He’s a pretty smart guy. This is why book review and pew news will always be dear to me
I love this new format. Please do some more
I did not expect the swedish guy who screams "EAT" at his virtual pet to have such sophisticated and interesting things to say about a movie most of us have not even seen.
I hope he makes more videos like this.
Edit: Wait, this is over a year old, I thought this was new.
what youtube recommendations can do...
tho i watched it again anyway, its a good one
Hey, I'm still here at least!
I wish he does so too, but I think the views these videos get would discourage him from doing them a lot
It's a classic movie in northern Europe at least, it's simply a good satire of what some societies are at their core
I'm actually shocked to see you comment on this video.
Jordan Brown it’s only underrated in the US actually. Everywhere else, it did well and as seen it was number one in its first week in Columbia.
Phillip Morrell Yeah the movie was hilarious in most Parts but also dang awesome in the parts where they fought the bugs!
Tremors is a classic that should never be touched!
I remember watching this when i was little and i was like wtf
I find it baffling that anybody could watch Starship Troopers and NOT see it as satire.
america is just THAT brainwashed
@@avastucki1702 As an American, I've never seen it as anything but a satire. This is just a tale of people reading way into something, and purposely not seeing the actual message. The media loves controversy and that's what makes money. So people choose to have problems with it, because they chose not to see the satire
It's worth noting this movie came out 22 years ago, and most (if not all) satirical movies before this were comedies (Airplane, Spaceballs)
A satirical sci-fi action movie with a budget was not something people had seen before.
@@that1studios You're right. It really just comes down to willful blindness.
When I watched it as a kid I just thought it was a sci fi action movie and enjoyed it a lot. As an adult and after reading the book I now see the satire and enjoy it even more
Wait.... an ad!?
3 ads for me! Congrats!
Wow guys you've just notice? its been weeks now since his vids got ads. Don't ruin his hot streak.
Yo me too
I got three adds and i watched them all the way #dedication

It’s odd coming from the meme slayer, but it’s good that pewds is using his plateform for introspective ideals. It was very entertaining as well.

This is fantastic analysis. Interesting and thought provoking but fun and strange.
Presumably the people who didn't understand Starship Troopers also thought Spinal Tap was a legit documentary

Hahaha :D
To be fair, I wanted to join the army by seeing this movie and Rambo. But on growing up I saw Big Lebowski and this movie along with GoT changed my perspective on this world
IT'S NOT? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Did you notice that Dougie Howser's uniform is that of a Wehrmacht officer's? The movie is played awfully campy, but it is up for debate as to what they are actually satirizing.
Normal book based movies: This movie is an insult to the book! I hate it!
Starship Troopers: This movie is an insult to the book! I love it!
from a certain view i guess
@@stopaskingforrealnames3853 what is your real name?
The funny thing is that it failed successfully at lambasting the book.
The idea of a movie acting as a direct parody of the book it's based off of is so amazing and could never happen today. I love that so much
i love movie reviews and analysis, if you were to keep making them, you have my support :)
Awesome video. I also loved this movie when I was young but I got it. (I'm Australian).
There is an old saying. "Nothing brings people together more than a mutual enemy"
Yep, I'm Irish and it was always clearly a pisstake, also always on of my very favorite movies
