This video was made at the request of LUTI organizers and with their creative input and help finding footage, but everything I say here is in my own words and reflects my own opinions on them (they're not paying me to say nice things about them, it's legit, I really do think you should support them!)
Every day Gem edges closer and closer to understanding zoomer slang and this fact is *terrifying*
I just heard Chuggaaconroy using zoomer slang rewatching his splat 2 LP, i was concerned Chuggaa got replaced by an evil clone
@@Weebdotexe Bold of you to assume Chugga isn't the evil one
Now we must teach him how to get sturdy
"Zoomer"
You've had some pretty great intros in the past, but I think this may take the cake
I love how he gives that intro and then immediately tells us he's an English teacher.
Was gonna click off cause the video wasn’t loading but this comment made me stay
Simp
Definitely
"I'm an English teacher." NO WONDER YOU PEDAGOGY IS SO CLEEEAN BRO! Good on ya for sticking with teaching man idk how people do it.
Someone used the words "pedagogy" and "bro" in the same sentence and this warms my heart.
why is the splatoon community so cool
I was trying to research LUTI less than a week ago because I didn’t fully understand it. Your timing is impeccable!
Instant like for that opening
Ikr
Ngl 20,000 Leagues Under The Ink does sound like a movie that would be shown in the Woomyverse theatres
What are divisions though? Is there any way to tell what you are if you haven’t played competitive or are you div 9 (i assume the lowest) if you haven’t played competitive before.
This is one of the things that still confuses me about trying to get into competitive
This is the video I needed when I first got into comp, you are doing a great service.
this is really cool. i wish i had the courage to try to start doing scrims and stuff like this
The worst that can happen is you lose games of Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch!
The amount of RUclipsrs who are/were teachers that I’ve been watching again. Increases.
A div tag is used to define a section in html documents.
Exactly what I needed to know! Thanks, Gem! (I might not have the time to actually do this, ah well.)
Even though this was explained very few information was preserved into my brain. The only thing I understand is "win more means your good; lose more means you’re no good."
You should plug LUTI at the end of every video tbh. I wish I had found this much sooner!
Pics at the end are so wholesome
That intro give me Blues Clues vibes, in a good way.
I might actually go deeper into learning about LUTI and teams and all that once school isn't taking all my time...
Thx for the explainer!
Hey, how do you figure out what division you are in to start scrims? Also, what is the best way to find a team to join? I wanna play in a league, but i dont know my div, and dont know anyone thats competing in LUTI
I was just thinking about how LUTI works yesterday because I remembered the speed ladder tournament is on sunday, how do you do to have such a perfect timing?
Is there an average time commitment per week for tournaments and scrims? I'm interested, but I'm not sure if my schedule can afford it, plus I'm already floundering in solo Q S+ ranks.
LUTI season 8 div 6 group (I can’t remember) but DT, Grillers, SF & Ink Sink is still legendary to this day.
We were group C iirc
I hope there are other seeding tournaments before LUTI kicks off. The groups I’m with aren’t feeling ready for comp (even if the speed ladder is more casual and would be a good chance to get practice in imo), but I’d love to get another chance to get seeded and involved in LUTI again once those groups are more established
I know solo queue is not a good predictor of div ranking, but considering Gem is X rank in Splat 2 and placed in div 3-5, what is the minimum rank for someone to play competently (read: not be dead weight) in LUDI? I maxed out at A for 3/4 of the modes in Splat 2 with a B+ in clam blitz since I sucked at it. I know the ranks in Splat 3 are not glicko based but I'm currently low S.
My understanding is that the lowest division probably has some teams with very new players. If you're interested, I'd at least give it a try. LUTI, btw, not LUDI
@@SquidSchool Thanks for the reply, and the correction, I must have misheard. Definitely something I want to do in the future even if I get put in div 10 or something, since while I'm not a new player, I played pretty casually for all my time in Splat 2.
4:13 ME JUMPSCARE LOLLLL thats me ome :)
do we ned a team to do this or can we be matched with a team to compete? none of my friends who play are in S rank....
I've had this video recommended to me twice and both times I thought it was an HTML tutorial
When I first saw the thumbnail, my stupid British mind responded with "a dumbass".
Oh shoot, is that an insult I didn't know? **Googles furiously**
I have to say, the British culture of inventing unique insults is unmatched as far as my knowledge of the English language stretches.
@@SquidSchool literally anything over here could be an insult. I get called a "donut" at school sometimes lol.
It would be very helpful if the Switch App had a function where you can see how often you win with which weapon, percentage wise. It would make choosing a weapon easier.
I'm curious, is best of 9 a lot for splatoon? What's the normal number of games in a set?
Most of the time you'll see best of 3, with grand finals being best of 5 or bo7.
Luti can be a lot. If you play 9 games, each game taking 6 minutes (lobby time) the set can take an hour, sometimes a bit longer.
Thats why the format is setup to play 1 match a week.
In the past, my teams have hopped on 1.5 hours earlier, scrimmed a seperate team for 1 hour to play the set warm.
Then play the bo9 set!!
I love that moment you pull up the wiki link instead of addressing it xD
I participated with my first team the other day on the speed ladder
Great explanation!
20 thousand leagues, is a refermace to the distance traveled while under water, NOT the distance UNDER the water they went down.
So technically… I bet some of these players have traveled over 20 thousand leagues, under the ink
"what that LUTI do"
Wait…
Gem’s an English teacher?
The speed ladder link in the description brings to the 2019 speed ladder registration page
Oh crap, fixing that rn
1: I'm not good at the game
2: I'm exclusively solo queue because I don't have anyone to play splatoon with
Same 🤧
wait isnt the luti tourny the day before the speed ladder?
LUTI takes place over about 2 months, and the Speed Ladder is being used to seed LUTI
@@SquidSchool ah ty
me want in tournament, me bad at cephalopod game, too lazy to get gud, how mr.squidschool?
Play tournament, think about how play tournament, next tournament goes gooder
I never knew you were an english teacher!
0:02 NO WAY HE SAID WORDS
Pog
Hey Gem, what that Luti do?
It do be do be do
I could use Pythagoras theory to calculate your forehead
yeah I realized literally no one in the competitive will ever explain exactly how tournament sets, loser's brackets, and such work. As if no gives any fucks what kind of tournament it is as long as players get to play competitively, lmao. And so, casual viewers like me will constantly hear about "tournaments" but never feel interested to get in or maybe feel like having anxiety because the YT pro's we're watching never say mum, like it's some sort of super secret organization invite only lol
The "losers bracket" concept you describe is part of the double elimination tournament format, which isn't used at all by either the Inkademy Speed Ladder or LUTI. I could go through an explanation of how a tournament set works and some basics along those lines if people are interested, but many of those things weren't relevant to this video. The only thing you needed to understand for this video was what "best of 9" means, which I figure people know from playing Rock Paper Scissors or whatever else.
Imma join luti despite knowing I'm gonna get my *ss handed to me and get put in div 9
Ain't nothing wrong with div 9 if it means you're getting good practice!
I will be away on the 13th :sob:
Does anyone wanna make a team with me
Imagine…. Having a team. 😢
Sometimes teams form just to be able to compete in LUTI, even if they don't plan on staying together afterward. Check out the Inkopolis Crosswalk Discord server, there are a bunch of different places there where people make recruitment posts for all sorts of different levels of play.
@@SquidSchool any chance you could put a link to that in the description?

@@SquidSchool Thank you! I've joined a few discords been learning a lot!
yes soloq does not matter im a higher soloq rating than chara
You forgot to mention the part where they're also burning down half the planet to scam idiots with NFTs
second
not to be rude but this guy triggers the uncanny valley in me so i watch splatoon advice videos while something deep in me tells me i should be running away, which in itself is hilarious
omg that’s a terrible thing to say about a person 😭
(it’s his eyes, i s2g)
LUTI discord link is invalid :(
In British slang, "Div" means idiot.
