    Love this video. I’d like to add a few thoughts.
    1. Stick around. Many people form new teams with high expectations. Everyone thinks they’re improving, so surely their last team will be better than their new one. When this doesn’t happen, they immediately move on looking for something else. Be patient! It takes time to develop chemistry. The grass may seem greener on the other side, but there are not infinite teams out there. Assess the situation you’re in and don’t get discouraged by the first obstacle.
    2. But don’t get stuck. Lots of players are on teams that have been together for ages and they aren’t happy. STOP DOING THIS. This is a game we play. Life is too short and this game’s lifespan is even shorter. Someday Splatoon will be dead and when that day comes, do you want to look back and say “I spent 3 years with a team that stagnated because I was too afraid to branch out and explore anything new”. Don’t waste your live voluntarily staying in situations you aren’t happy with.

    • @SquidSchool
      @SquidSchool  3 года назад +19

      That might be tricky to work around. Is this a rule imposed by your parents or just because school days are that busy for you?
      If it's parents, it might be worth talking to them about why you think the experience is valuable. Parents do like it when their children are making friends and working to improve at something; they might be willing to make an exception for it. I'm sure they'll appreciate the maturity it took to come forward and negotiate about it, and the worst they can say is no!

    • @jonathanlala4867
      @jonathanlala4867 3 года назад +12

      @@SquidSchool My parents had that rule in place since Kindergarten and as school has gotten more complex and involved, the rule has actually become a benefit as opposed to a negative.
      I wouldn't try and negotiate it with them after an incident a couple years ago where I went against that rule big time.
      This is why anytime I've tried playing something with a team it was during the summer

    Honestly finding a comp team was probably one of the best decisions of my life.
    Because after playing with them for a little while I have finally found people who I feel safe enough to be around without hiding my feelings or emotions.
    The difference between my callouts with my team and with drafts or pickups is night and day.
    I am much more quited when with pickups but as soon as I'm with my teammates that all just goes away and I start shouting freely callouts without second guessing myself or hesitating.
    It it also brings out my emotions that are otherwise burried deep away inside hidden from anyone else.
    And that's really freeing. And I can't thank them enough.

    I actually did my part of being the Captain of a team for the first time ever. My first experience was a bit of a mixed bag - knowing what I would know, and as well as, I recruited two that actually had experience as a Captain.
    One case was of being a Map Monitor - knowing what routes are being taken - or noticing weapons and their range on the map. Then having to see or direct the others during a match - communication is no longer a problem - except during play - I happen to be more focused that I forget to say what I’m doing or ask if someone can do another thing, at times.

      It's important for everyone on the team to always be keeping an eye on the map, but it is nice, for example, to have someone whose job it is to check enemy gear before each round so you don't get 3 people talking over each other about it. Good luck getting your team together!

    Man…
    The whole talk about making a Team - and Cutting Off a Member or Two… reminds me of that Tabletop Board Game “Dead of Winter” - with the Option to… “Vote to Exile”, to Kick Them OUT of The Colony for suspicion of being a Betrayer or is the Betrayer - same as “Among Us”.
    I actually want to build one, but I’m still alone - rethinking strategy, and I don’t know if I can make one fast enough before the next Tournament this weekend coming.
    Also… that’s a Question, if I Build a Team, am I automatically The Captain? As in, I have to act as The Leader immediately? I prefer not to be yet, maybe I could be a First Officer? Or just a regular member?

    • @SquidSchool
      @SquidSchool  3 года назад +2

      In theory no, but in practice if you're the one who took the initiative to get it together in the first place, you're probably the one with the most leadership skills who's going to end up doing that stuff haha
      The way I became a TO for the first time was that I made a Facebook event for a Smash tournament thinking that once we got there the experienced TOs would run it, but everyone saw my name on the event page and figured I was in charge. So I learned how to run a Smash tournament that day.

    I use a Wi-Fi connection, and I usually have to rely on being inches away from the router (in a not too comfortable position) just for stability. I never knew about switch Ethernet adapters, and I would like to know a good place to get them and how to set it up without cutting off our Wi-Fi signal.

    • @SquidSchool
      @SquidSchool  3 года назад +1

      You'll need 2 pieces of equipment for a wired connection, the Switch "Wired LAN adapter" (the officially licensed one I've seen is made by HORI), and an ethernet cable long enough to reach your router.
      The adapter plugs into your Switch, and then the cable goes from the adapter to the back of your router. You'll know it's working if you get a picture of a wire instead of the wi-fi icon in the upper right corner of the Switch main menu screen.
      The only way it could interfere with your home's internet setup more than it already does in terms of the bandwidth it uses is if the router doesn't have any open plugs for the cable and you need to unplug something to use it.

    That Putz12 person's whole content creation revolves around cursing and bashing Splatoon when he plays even if he is doing well or winning... Lol, it's the charm of his content creation and part of the humor and his style, not his actual feelings or emotions being shown. Haha

      Good question!
      Some teams do look for players that are past a certain age, so don't expect that every team will want to play with someone so young. Don't hold it against anyone if they say no because of your age. It's honestly safer that way anyway! But if you can figure out your goals, maybe talk them through with your parents, and find some kids near your age, there's no reason you guys couldn't start trying to play competitively now.
      It's a great experience that will teach you how to learn, how to be a leader, and how to communicate well with other people. Just make sure you're being good to your teammates and telling your parents about your interactions with strangers online.

      League power resets every 2-hour rotation, it's not like ranked where your rank stays with you for a long time.
      Sorry to hear it's so tough for you to find people who play. Maybe try looking into some Splatoon Twitch streams, if that's allowed?

    I'm making another comment because I finally know what to say about the whole putz12 thing.
    Although I won't deny there is some entertainment value in watching someone so self-unaware, arrogant, and childish routinely get what's coming to them, it's less about that and more about setting an example out of people like him. We don't laugh because we find it funny, we laugh to shame him because his behavior is unacceptable and we don't want it poisoning our community or the perception thereof.
    People have tried being nice to him multiple times, and they've tried in earnest to teach him where he went wrong and how to be better. But he's shown time and time again he thinks he's above criticism and anyone who gives it is a troll. That means the only other option, like it or not, is to mock him. If he doesn't clean up his act, then he will continue to get that treatment until he runs away with his tail between his legs. Ironically enough, that is how it should be if we want to keep what makes this fanbase what it is. After all, we're not his friends or his therapists or his coaches, and we shouldn't feel obligated to act like we are.
    Splatoon has a very inclusive and (usually) mature community, and it's exactly for that reason I must ask: why should I be tolerant of his behavior when he shows no tolerance towards anything other than what he deems as perfection, especially when he can't be bothered to reach those standards himself? Why should I be accepting of his presence in the community when he wants people he thinks are below his skill level to stop playing the game?
    I know obsessing over him is unhealthy, and in theory it would be best to just not pay attention to people like him. However, that ignorance could just as easily signal more toxic people like him to take over the scene. After all, if no one is raising any objections to that behavior, then surely that means it's acceptable to act like that, right?

      I just don't think this is a good response. You don't need to bully a player on his twitch stream because you want to send a message to other people that his behaviour isn't acceptable. He's... just kind of being angry on his twitch stream and blocking people on his switch. There isn't a voice chat for him to shout down at people. I would not know about putz if it weren't for people dunking on him and people on the internet aren't going to make him control his emotions better.
      Social shame isn't a way to help someone overcome poor emotional control nor does it do anything for other people because you're making it "aren't you glad you aren't putz" rather than "don't be rude".
      I don't care if a random guy I play with thinks I could be a bad player, it's not my business because I can't hear him nor do I seek out his possible opinion on me. Maybe if putz was yelling at people outside of his twitch stream (i.e. @ ing them on twitter) tolerance paradox would apply but even then you can just block rude people.
      Splatoon isn't toxic but there's kind of a mean girl catty vibe I get from a lot of people which I'd say is significantly more pervasive than anything putz could do. Basically every other game with a voice chat is toxic for having voice chat, Splatoon doesn't have voice chat, so...
