    I love that if you kill Gortash and then use the talk to dead spell, it's not him who you talk to. It is his dark patron, Bane, who talks back, and makes it clear that Gortash's soul is too preoccupied to answer you due to being tortured eternally by him. What an absolute (pun intended) unit!

    • @flamesofhellstudio

      Also, Gortash has no intention of actually sharing power with you. He's Bane's chosen, the guy loves to deceive people, you don't think he wouldn't be able to lie inside his own mind to better trick people? You have a tadpole in your head, he doesn't. Do the math.

    How are you not gonna have Magus of Chrono Trigger here?! Everyone is led to believe that he's summoning the big bad of the game, Lavos, to destroy/rule the world, but he's been trying for over 9,000 years to summon him for the sole purpose of destroying Lavos before the planetary parasite could fully mature and destroy the world on Emergence Day in 1999. He was basically trying to solo the questline altogether before you came along and realized your goals aligned.

    Shadowtrap from The Pre-Sequel: He was an ally to Claptrap all along. He just wanted Claptrap to stand up to people who didn't respect him and warned him not to trust his "friends." In the end he was proven right and is the only reason Claptrap survived being shot by Handsome Jack (so technically, it is thanks to Shadowtrap that Handsome Jack gets to be defeated by BL2).

      Whats crazy about Shadowtrap is he is also the left over subroutine of the program that made all the claptraps go crazy and actually fight back in the Claptrap revolution dlc for the first game, and even then it's focus was to keep claptraps alive and free from the abuse everyone was giving them.

    Gortash fully intends on betraying the Dark Urge too. The entire thing between the three chosen of the Dead Three was that only one could claim the control of the crown at the end, they all planned to kill each other. Gortash is a master mannipulator, he uses and then throws them away when he no longer needs them. He did it to Karlach, the other two Chosen, and he would've done it the Dark Urge if the opportunity arose.

    • @POBox4375
      @POBox4375 Месяц назад +2

      You can read Gortash's mind. Gortash has no intention of betraying the Dark Urge, or of betraying Karlach again if you do an evil ending in her Origin playthrough. He's extremely enthused she's stopped acting like a lackey and buoyant about their future co-rule. Apparently, both aloud and if you use telepathy, he thought she was spineless and hated she always did what she was told no questions asked their first time around. His reaction to Karlach is right in line with the narration that he missed The Dark Urge being unafraid to meet him with pushback in their parallel version of the conversation.
      The Dark Urge, on the other hand, promises his father he'll betray Gortash in a letter written to Bhaal pre-game. So it might have ended poorly.

  • @HitchcockJohn
    @HitchcockJohn 3 месяца назад +10

    Baldur’s Gate 3 technically has several, and it can depend on your choices. Minthara is initially set up as a major antagonist and can even be a boss fight in Act I before joining you in Act II, and you’re initially told you have to KILL Karlach and she’s a much bigger monster than she actually is.
    Far Cry 4 also pulls it on a smaller scale with Noore. She’s set up as one of Pagan’s generals but once you actually meet her she begins secretly helping you against Pagan and it eventually turns out she has pretty good reason to want him dealt with.
    In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey you spend most of the game killing members of the Cult of Cosmos, but when you finally get to the last one, the one supposedly running it, you learn she actually WANTED you to destroy it, mainly because it had lost sight of it’s original goals after its members became corrupted by being overwhelmed with power.

      with farcry 4 id also mention that the golden path is honestly worse then pagan min... its funny that the only good options in farcry 4 and 5 is to just do nothing

    • @HitchcockJohn
      @HitchcockJohn Месяц назад +1

      @@jessicamason2526 Not neccessarily.
      That ending has Pagan Min basically hand a war-torn country over to a guy with zero political or military leadership experience or even any real knowledge of Kyrat's geography or culture. That would pretty much mean making Ajay a target of the Golden Path, and possibly leave the government even more vulnerable. I know Pagan thinks he's doing you a favor but he really didn't think this one through.
      So it doesn't really make things a whole lot better. If anything it allows Pagan Min to get off scott-free for all his crimes while throwing an innocent man under the bus. Best case scenario Ajay has to become an even bigger tyrant in order to fight back, worst case scenario he gets easily overthrown and executed which would inevitably lead to further infighting within the Golden Path leading to further civil war.

      TL:DR He is if you're also a despotic psychopath who doesn't view synths as people.
      But he is the reason you're free. Depending on the kind of choices you make, if you're going for evil/bigot/despot, he'd make fast friends.
      The only constant that made the institute the villain up until you meet father is they have your kid. Well, he is your kid, how about now? Although I didn't like the idea of my character having such a railroad of an origins story, it is a pretty good twist. Makes the player question this. You want your son to be a good guy. And he does seem intelligent and compassionate in some ways. But depending on your stance on synths' autonomy, there are implicit red flags from the beginning. Red flags that don't really lower the more you dig.

    It's pretty clear neither you nor the writers ever played Pokemon Black/White, because that's not the story _at all._
    N starts out as being fully on-board with Team Plasma, but starts having doubts as a consequence of your very first encounter with him (which is in the very first town you travel to, before even getting your very first Gym Badge). Doubts that keep getting more and more difficult to ignore.
    It's only when his father, Ghetsis reveals that Team Plasma's real goal is to ensure only _he_ (Ghetsis) has Pokemon, that a horrified N actually turns to your side.
    It's in Black/White 2 that Team Plasma's hardliners turn genocidal (with those who... well, aren't crazy/brainwashed being quite opposed to their new plans).

Which, as soon as you meet Balthazar, you should have no trouble guessing that he is one of them. I couldn't bring myself to kill Pagan cause honestly he's really not a bad guy. Pagan loved AJs mom who was suppose to spy on him for her husband who was a d--k and she ended up falling in love with Pagan cause he's again not a bad guy. Now AJs biological father was so mad when he found out she had a baby with Pagan that he literally kills the baby girl, causing his wife to flee the country with AJ and turning Pagan into the man he becomes a bit unhinged sure but who wouldn't be after having your baby girl killed and the love of your life dissappear. Let me remind you that later in this game you have to pick who you want to run the country and it comes down between a religious radical who will kill anyone and everyone who didn't follow the old ways or a person who want to use child slaves to work in the opium fields, yeah now this game has a karma system and if it's high enough you can kill one or both. Now I personally banished the child slave lady from ever returning and I definitely killed the radical religious guy but in the end I could never see a point to killing Pagan cause again he truly did nothing wrong, he was charismatic, charming, and a awesome guy whos plan was to leave the country in your hands all along. I just let him get on his helicopter and fly away, Pagan suffered enough already and honestly was a better father to AJ than his real one. I was a huge fan of Vaas but ultimately Pagan stole the show, he was a way more compelling character and I wanted to learn more about him. Vaas was a pirate full of insanity sure he's more iconic but Pagan is overall way more interesting.

    Other options:
    Proto-Man (Mega Man 3): Spends most of the game randomly attacking you in selected levels mid-quest, only to eventually rescue you from Dr. Wily at the end of the game.
    Knuckles (Sonic3/Sonic and Knuckles): Proves to be a right royal nuisance for most of Sonic 3, whereby it’s also implied that he’s working for Dr. Eggman, only for it to be revealed that the two of you have a common enemy in the (not so good) doctor of cybernetics.
    Estelle Aguirre (Streets of Rage 4): Twice throughout the main story of SOR4 do your heroes encounter the Rhonda Rousey inspired SWAT officer Estelle Aguirre, who seems Hell-bent on booking for the aggravated assault of her crooked cop colleagues. Thankfully, following your second encounter aboard the Sky Train, she instead chooses to join you on your crusade against the Y Twins. She then becomes a playable character with some of the best moves in the game.
    Vincent (Silent Hill 3): This creepy cleric and academic who resembles an anorexic version of 1990s Bill Pullman always seems to appear out of nowhere to harass Heather when she needs it the least. In fact, for much of the narrative you’re almost certain that Vincent is manipulating Heather in much the same way that Dahlia Gillespie manipulated Heather’s father Harry in the original Silent Hill game. This being said, creepy as his is, Vincent ultimately has the same goal as Heather. Both want to stop Claudia from bringing the demonic ‘God’ of the town back to life, though both have very different methods for doing so.
    Flamethrower man (Until Dawn): Of the 3 antagonists that dog the characters of Until Dawn, the Flamethrower Man is the most misunderstood because, much like the Hacketts in The Quarry, he’s not trying to harm the teens but trying to protect them from the far greater threat of the wendigos that infest the mountain where the game is set.
    Virgil (Devil May Cry 3): Despite eventually becoming the big bad for DMC5, Dante’s twin brother proves a priceless asset during the final battle of DMC3. Yes, he does act like a cross between Albert Wesker from ResEvil and Seifer Almassy from FFVIII. Yes, he does severely wound Dante midway through the game. But much like Trish in the original DMC, or even Dante himself in DMC4; his face-turn in the final reel only makes that last boss victory all the more sweet. Plus, if Virgil didn’t make his supreme sacrifice at the end of the game there’d likely be no franchise.

    N is not your ally during Black and White! He's committed to his goals of freeing Pokemon from their trainers because he's under the impression that all Pokemon are repressed. While he starts having doubts as you run into him during your adventure, he's still not on your side. This is what happens when the only Pokemon he's talked to before were all abused, and Ghetsis keeps lying to him. He's effectively in a cult. It isn't until Ghetsis reveals his true colors that N turns on him, but he never truly gives up on his ideals.

    I disagree with Fallout 4. He only lets your character out just to see if they would survive; they don't care one iota for them and only want you to their point-of-view and not have your character have their own. He is the ultimate villain and only on his own side. He makes clones of himself when the other scientists are against it; he doesn't care about other peoples opinions, he only cares about his own, and his legacy. He's there to help himself not anyone else.

    There was also Freelancer's Orillian who is actually one of the two Big Goods (as well as Chkobi), but everyone think's he's the Big Bad until you find out the REAL Big Bad are alien parasites.
    Jet Lancer has all of the RED mechs. They're all good guys that have lost their programming, which your ship the L4NC3R, is actually one of, and it attempts and fails each time to establish a handshake with them. You discover why they were made later in the game, and who the Big Bad is.
    Also, I won't spoil it, but... when you fight The Black Knight on NG+, bring the hacking upgrade and hack it instead of destroying it.
    DRAINUS has the Layla who works under the Big Bad. She turns out to be the player character's sister and betrays the Big Bad. Twice. Play NG+ and you'll see what I mean.

    Kain? Like, Legacy of Kain's Kain? The one who seemingly sets off the end of the world in Blood Omen, turns into the most persistent, constant "final boss" of the series, only to find at the very end that he's the *savior* of Nosgoth, and that you - as Raziel - were always meant to heal his black heart and be the loyal blade by his side?
    I thought for sure he'd be on here, but I guess poor ol' Kain's been forgotten.

    Jetstream Sam starts out as a broken person who helps out Armstrong sincerely as he thinks he has no other choice since "if the strong are right" then he must be weak since he was defeated by Armstrong.
    Sam's tone is mocking on your first encounter since he expects Raiden to like him and just crumble if defeated. Then Raiden gets back up again, something he never expected.
    On the second encounter in Denver, his tone is mocking. Subconsciously he wants Raiden to break like he did to justify himself breaking, instead, Raiden gets up again, something he never did.
    Sam's tone is respectful on the third and final encounter as he, after some reflection, has come to the realisation that Raiden is a lot stronger mentally than him since Raiden keeps getting back up again where he himself stayed down to crawl. Now he wants to see if Raiden is physically strong enough to stand a chance against Armstrong, something he never did.

    How is Gortash on the players side? Yes, he will ally with you but his goal is to hold everyone hostage with tadpole so they worship Bane. A better choice if you wanted to include someone from BG3 would be Minthara. Also as others have said Father from F4 is not on the player's side either. He sees people as experiments and only values them as long as they are useful. Not an ally.
