Lloyd this is perfect. Keep making these as long as you can come up with ideas! I’m new to clay sports in Canada and just purchased my first over under. I’ve been lucky enough to find some friends on the rifle range who love to shoot skeet too, and have helped me out tremendously. Other than some simple aiming tips vids there isn’t much on RUclips to help new shooters out. This should def bring you the subs you deserve.
Absolutely cracking idea for a video series. As pretty new to shooting I’m looking forward to seeing your upcoming vids, and I’m sure I’m going to learn lots about those intangibles that are so hard to get to grips with if you don’t already know people that shoot. On a side note, as I was one of the very small commercial team that came up with the brand extension concept for Aunt Bessie’s Roast Potatoes, and proudly brought them to market, I can tell you that Jonny’s talking out of somewhere he shouldn’t be able to talk out of!
Lovely job matey! I have been shooting for 40+ years, but this kind go info would have been brilliant when I was a newbie. Looking forward to the next batch - Never too old to learn! TTFN.
Great idea for a series Lloyd. I've been on the cusp of getting my own gun etc and have been for a couple of lessons at Bywell so looking forward to the videos to come!
Good topic. I followed the method of fitting the cabinet so the door closed towards the adjacent wall to hinder a crow bar. As for feeling intimidated when I was a new shooter I agree, however when you get chatting, you soon get offered help, make new friends and sometimes become better than them. Both eyes open and don’t look at the bead was my best advice.
Thanks Lloyd, long time watcher/subscriber, first time commenter...look forward to this mini series. Look forward to the next ep, all the way from Perth, West Australia.
Great video LIoyd as usual, especially for ladies and gentlemen getting started into clay shooting....can't wait to get back myself. Take care and stay safe..
Thanks for the video. Your post on Facebook led me to your channel. I applied for my licence back in March and only received it about a month ago. The police never came round my house, they phoned me and we had a chat over the phone, then I had to email a load of photos of the cabinet and where it was fitted. I'm in a wheelchair, and completely new to the sport, and I struggle to motivate myself to get out the house as I'm new to being in a chair as well. I just went and bought a gun and a load of shells so this will motivate me to get out the house!! I went for an Armsan 612s purely for the fact I understand a semi auto will give me less recoil. Can't wait to get out now, but I'm in a tier 3 area, so not sure on the rules. I also need a lesson or two, as the only other time I've used a shotgun was on a range in Thailand several years ago 😄😄😄
Really enjoyed this video, wish I could have seen it when I started shooting 4 months back.Still waiting for my licence which I applied for end of May.Hopefully next couple of weeks.
Well done Lloyd thank you i will be sharing this with my son who is about to take up the sport and i will have him subscribe ( - 4 DB is the base line for recording in the BBC )
Cheers Kevin, the levels off the mic were definitely low but as I work alone I had all the footage in the can before I noticed. It sounded fine to me when I was editing on my Mac however I can't boost the volume in RUclips after upload. Episodes 2 and 3 are "fixed"
what he said is what i did, 1.5 years ago i fancied shooting so i approached my local club, shot with them for 2 months as a guest for experience (you can apply anytime for section 2), but in the interview they ask if you have any experience, having 2 months shooting experience goes a long way! so i then applied for my license, 2 months later i had my own browning 525 laminate,. thanks to my local police for super quick application
Great video as always Lloyd! I know you’ve probably already thought about it, but in your safety video for new shots, can you cover how to get a gun out of a slip. It makes me shudder how some people get guns out of slips. Not only is it cumbersome, it’s not exactly safe! It’s something that’s so obvious once you’ve been shown it, but not everyone thinks it themselves or is lucky enough to have someone show them what to do
Lloyd, You poms are really a lot behind. Us aussies have tubes from Roger Pace, the Aust Clay Target Association plus tubes from Olympic and Commonwealth medalist in Go Shooting Australia. There is an absolute wealth of startup info, you only have to look. Mark
Just getting into the sport and have found your video's invaluable. Thought it would be a great sport to add to my retirement regiment. I have purchased a summit impact trap combo to start out with. But would really like it if you could do a review on a Zilo Z- sport. Cheers!
What a great idea! Only took up clay shooting two years ago at aged 61 with only have-a-go experience. Believe me I found that there was a lot to think about and much to learn. But I have in all honesty found only helpful folk. Lots of free advice. My all time favourite is " it needs more lead" 😂. Still hear that quite a lot. Look forward to hearing your advice and tips. Never too old to learn something new!
Hi, first off love the you tube channel. I have a question, i am new to shooting and I have recently purchased a new Miroku MK38 grade 5. I shot it for the first time this weekend and shot about 100 cartridges. The barrels under the foreend has gone from black to a blueish colour. Is this normal ???
Hi Lloyd great idea to help new shooters get into the sport I was 16 when I got my certificate it was hard to find where to go as no internet back in 1986 luckily where I got my apprenticeship few of the guys did it which helped me out, are you going to review any FAC firearms as you mentioned you have got one.
Good useful tips there, look forward to the subsequent episodes. Note that unfortunately many Constabularies are prioritizing renewals over issuing new licenses so a new application may be problematic. As it was I renewed by Co-term 5 months early and the tickets were still late in arriving (Avon & Somerset). Just one note that your sound level was very quiet, had to turn the PC volume to max to hear you. Homemade roasties all the way! #getinthegoosefat ;)
Hi Lloyd, first I would like to say that I really like your videos! They are condensed, nice and I like how you do it. Now, about the licencing! I am writing to you from Serbia, and in Serbia the guns are licenced not the people. What I mean is, I currentlly have 2 rifles and 4 shotguns, and I needed to apply with the same bounch of paperwork for each and every of them. How's that in the UK? I figured out from yours and Johny's (TGS) videos, that you guys need that shotgun certificate, and than you can buy or sell shotguns as you like. Is that true?
Hi Lloyd, 4 years later and this series is golden for beginners -- got my first comp this weekend and I've got you to thank!
Ah man, that’s really good to hear. Thank you.

It's supposed to be blue, that's why it's called blueing. Unless it's a massive change indicating wear from the forend don't worry about it.
