I am an older guy shooting shotguns all my life, not great at it but ok, have a Remington 870 and a Browning Auto 5 made in 1953 . I want to try this , for us non professionals it seems like a fun game. When we get too serious about shooting and or missing the fun is no longer there. Have shot competitively in IHMSA and NRA etc. in years past. Your shooting tips help me realize why I miss clays at the range where we have throwers. Focusing on the bead more than the bird must be a common mistake and stopping the swing. Thankyou , you are really great in instructional videos but you make them fun to watch.
My local shotgun club offers 5-stand in the winter. They move in a heated enclosed trailer with 5 openings cut into the side as the stations. It’s a lot of fun.
Place by me it's enclosed as well so it's nice in the winter or rain. I haven't actually tried it yet. Might try this weekend if it's raining. Itching to shoot the new u/o I got
Great video you have exactly the same idea about shooting that I do just have fun. Two months ago I shot my last five stand target. My back broke on station number three. i’m 73 years old and have been shooting for 65 years. Sure miss it.
I've just recently got back in the game after almost 12 years and have been watching your series on shotguns, it's been a real eye opener to how much I forgot, or was doing wrong. Thanks for the great and entertaining content!
I use my local 5 stand for practice when im on my own. I live in Bradenton Florida and we got the manatee gun and archery club that has a great 5 stand for practice in between nsca clay tournaments. They have a green for easy Blue for medium and black for hard level. I enjoy it because they put you up against 4 other opponents and after 5 shots you move over to the next station. The one thing i do differently in 5 stand is use a much shorter barrel because i have a much smaller window for picking up clays. I find a 24-26 inch barrel the best. My 24 inch mossberg 940jm pro really shines in 5 stand. I have multiple 25 for 25’s with it in the green and blue. Still trying to get a perfect black. So far i can do 22
5 stand is great fun. Shoot it every time I see one. Some people say it gets repetitive but I like that aspect. You can practice different presentations in the same game and work on your weaknesses.
Almost identical to “Compaq Sporting”, a beloved discipline, at least in my country Greece. The only difference is the semi circular lay out of the five stands, instead of the linear one used in the Compaq Sporting. Thank you so much Steve for the effort you put in your presentations!
Five Stand layouts differ from one club to the next. My local club has a covered, linear five stand house. Each stand has access to all targets for practice, or they can designate for competition. One can run through the stands once to warm up, then shoot a round of Sporting Clays.
My local shoot has a compact layout (UK-ese for 5 Stand?!) and I’ve found it’s a great warmup for a 50 bird sporting clay shoot - I get my eye in (or do all my missing) seeing the same few traps from a variety of angles and orders, and find it helps me hit the ground running on the sporting layout. Great video.
What gun are you shooting? I love all clays. But shoot 5 stand, wobble and sporting most. It's 75 miles to the closest skeet feild. That's mostly why I do the others.
When you're shooting doubles, how do you get that second shot off so fast? Do you move the selector to the second barrel or does your gun have double triggers? Thanks.
On modern o/u shotguns the selector is just indicating which barrel fires first. Most people shoot bottom barrel first in my experience. When you shoot a pair you just pull the trigger twice. It’ll fire whichever barrel is selected to fire first, you reset the trigger, then it’ll fire the second barrel upon the second trigger pull. No need to select anything between shots or have double triggers.
@@justindeaton7301 Thank you so much for the in-depth explanation. I've been looking at how to shoot doubles here. I'm excited to try and copy the techniques being demonstrated. I recently started shooting trap with my brother and we love it. More importantly (for me) I'm trying to give myself all the advantages I can, to hit the second clay, because I have issues with reaction time, coordination, and timing. Again, thank you very much.
I see that the Rizzini 110 is becoming one of your favs. I'm an O/U guy. Nice video and great tips. I think I will try 5 stand this week. Have a place 40 min away.
What is the maximum distance 7.5 shot will do? This 5 stand setup shoots straight at a highway. Obviously the pellets fall short, but how short? It would make me nervous. Great video and subscribed.
I've wondered that too. Checking with the distance tool on Onx Hunt gives me 370 - 480 yards depending upon which station you are measuring from, because the highway curves.
Interesting video, 5 stand looks like compak ! You're shooting range seem disturbing, I'm really not used to shoot in direction of a road , with electric lines on top of that...
You didn't mention that the rules allow full use of the gun on singles. You are allowed to take up to two shots at the single. If you miss with the first shot and hit it with the second shot it is a dead bird.
Steve giving you a heads up I got a text a few hours ago on this video saying I had WON and was the champ of your contest I think it's a scam you might want to tell your viewers
I shoot 5 Stand often and I've never seen "cages" like that used as stands and they're nowhere as safe as the type that are set up like a window with uprights on either side to stop you from swinging towards the other shooters. Look at some of the other 5 Stand videos on RUclips and you'll see what I mean.
Oh no! It’s something different than I’ve seen before. It must be dangerous… You have 5 across with no barriers in trap and everyone is fine. Also, unless your stations have blocking wands or frames well forward of the window you could theoretically swing your gun too far. But we don’t. Because people learn the safety rules. In my military days we would have multiple people on a range in various positions and it was safe because we all had our arcs of fire designated.
If you’re within the “V” there’s no way to swing through someone who is at or behind the firing line…it would take the same error that it takes for someone to flag another shooter on a PVC or metal window setup that are common.

Looks like a Rizzini BR110 IPS
Same question. I’m gonna demo the Rizzini BR110 next week. Any other suggestions for a Sporting, Skeet gun in that price range?

The energy of #8 shot past 150 yards will probably bounce off skin.
@@Tzimis1111 - Agreed. A bit longer for 7.5 shot, which is what I use for 5 stand. Thanks!
Could you do a comparison of the Benelli SBE 3, 12 gauge and 20 gauge? Kinda like a shotgun showdown.
Are you shooting the rizzini you reviewed a while back?
Ya gotta love all those target streaming by 300 yds away....
Can you review the Yildiz sporting HPS 12 gauge OU from Academy
can you do a review of the tristar tt15 deluxe combo is a cool gun that i want to buy... love the vids by the way
What choke tubes are you running?
Thanks for another great video. Just out of curiosity, how far away is that interstate highway. Some of the camera angles made it look fairly close.
There’s only a field inbetween not that far it’s Alexandria mn trap range

What muffs do you use
Love your videos
5 Stand looks fun...
Can you review the ATA Arms CY Single Piston 12 Gauge/28 Max 7 Semiautomatic Shotgun PLEASE!!
What choke tubes are you running for 5 stand?
Carlson tubes and I don’t know what restriction.
How can you shoot toward a road full of traffic?
the shot doesn't travel more than 100 yd or so
I've never seen 5 stand with open cages ...always Have shot closed cages like you do in sporting clays...different for sure...good video

how come those shots doesnt hit the moving cars ?
Because the moving cars are out of range.
Shotguns can't shoot that far.
best choke tube?
shooting sporting clays rocks
you could go to places like this in California many people could discover places like this

Over in the uk we call this sport trap
In Europe we called compact shoting.
How would you do that with 5 shooters how would they know witch guy was calling the bird
one at a time
5 stand kicked my a$$... only hit 6 my first time out
