This wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be when I clicked on it, I was actually looking for more advanced marching band snare practice material but this was one of the top results for some reason, I barely read the title, clicked it, full screened it, and just rolled with it. After the first minute or so of just doing very slow/easy warm up stuff I thought "uhhhm, hold up, what exactly is this lesson?" checked and realised it was a general drum lesson 101 type thing, so obviously as a drummer of 9 years only just getting into traditional marching snare stuff, it's way below my level, however, even after realising this I still went along with the practice because this guy is just so good, I LOVE this level of enthusiasm, this guy is a great drum teacher for beginners, I dropped a like and wanted to write this comment just to really say how great I think this guy is, any beginner starting out is lucky to have this guy as a teacher!!
I'm a 35-year-old ADHD dad. Music is what got me through school. I couldn't focus on my homework to save my life but I would play violin hours a day. Secret to ADHD is find something they enjoy and they will get crazy passionate about and keep that energy level up. I'm actually learning drums right now as we speak for this reason Best of luck to your boy he's going to be great
Bless your sons heart...I too have adhd but adult adhd, I don’t understand what the difference is...maybe it’s categorized as to when the diagnosis was determined... I can totally relate to your son, about being focused on watching drum line videos...in fact your comment helped me finally understand why I’m drawn to drumming too. For some reason, our minds are soo busy trying to focus on one thing but are distracted with soo many inconsistencies around us...so to me, it makes sense as to why our brains love the drums soo much. I appreciate your comment...you helped me too. I hope your little man has a pair of sticks in his hands by now, I think he’d make a good drummer... God Bless...
We are soooo blessed to have found you. I have a 5 and an 8 year old and they looked at me when you say “let’s start with a prayer.” We start almost everything with a prayer! They were glued. Now they are waking up extra early so they can practice along with you before school. Thank God our neighbors are far enough or they would be woken up hard 😂
This was awesome. Thank you for the prayers too, absolutely perfect. Just because i already play drums doesn't mean I have good hands, I don't. I need a LOT of work so I'm going all the way back to the start and practicing like a beginner again at age 49. Thank you so much for posting this!
I just stared band class a few days ago and on Monday they are doing lessons and a test on percussion. I ain’t good with the other instruments and I am hoping to learn percussion before Monday so I have a higher chance on getting the role. I hope this videos and others ones will help me learn before the “deadline”
I am a bit older than your regular students, but always felt a "calling" inside of me! I've seen many many teachers and tried with a few, but my success didm"t shine through! Given; that I am not the brightest light on the block at times. Then I found you! Dear Master of Drums! And things got way clearer! Thank you so much dear teacher! You make it fun, understandable, reachable, yet with a certain strictness needed, if one shall ever become great at drums/snare. I appreciate your time and what you do (for me)!
I have played string instruments for 30 years. I always wanted to drum. Bought a pad and some sticks you are my first lesson. Thank you it felt like an actual lesson since you were right behind me an all. Peace
I love how you started out with prayer I've been thinking about doing some drumming lessons i was diagnosed with crohn's disease three years ago and I have rheumatoid arthritis throughout my whole back and my hands don't work sometimes do you think I should still go through it

Oh my goodness...I literally took my sticks too...I thought I was the only one who did that when watching this video...I guess not. That’s awesome...obviously he’s making sense to us or my sticks would be still laying there. Thank you for your comment, it made my day. God Bless
Hey Mr. Riles will you ever do like an online course maybe on your website where people can learn how to play rudiments and songs same as you would in class I think a lot of people would love something like that
What a great channel! I play a lot of metal on a large kit with double bass and my playing is really stale. I have totally plateaued and realized that I lacked basic rudimentary skills because I’m self taught and play by ear. So I’m unlearning bad habits and relearning the basics. I appreciate you and your lessons. Subscribed for sure.
It only took me 12 minutes to do the homework, even though I’m not in your instructing class, it’s good practice for percussion ate my elementary school.
Alright, I can’t send it, but if you go to my RUclips channel, it’ll be the first video that says “ATL Drum Academy Homework” you can comment on how I did. 👏 GOD BLESS!
would you know how to find background beats like the ones used in the videos for practice? It’s hard to focus without music in the background to follow along with but I can’t find anything that I can play with.
Hi jus want to say thanks for that I really need to do a drum line for my church and you helped me a lot thank you man and this is my first time but I can learn really fast🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for a good beginner snare drum tutorial. I’m just getting started into this instrument and until this I have only found things that assume I am already intermediate with it.
I love that you started out with prayer, I wish I was more connected to god like that. I should try doing that. But I also really loved this video. This is my first year ever in band and I got bass 3 for marching band and I really want to be center snare for my senior year because I learn quickly. This video helped a lot, thank you!!!
