Hi Sue, saw THE SEEKERS many times including their final U.K. Tour. At the end of the show as people were giving a standing ovation and throwing flowers on the stage and giving Judith bouquets, I helped my 90 year old Mum from her seat so she could stand and applaud them, Judith saw this and came over to Mum and held her hand and blew her a kiss. We played this song at Mums funeral and it was heartbreaking but beautiful for so many different reasons.

The Seekers 25th Anniversary ( silver) concert is on RUclips. You should watch it. They sang some really beautiful songs on that tour that that they had not sang in concert before. One of them was Time and again. They also made an album in 1997 called Future Road and all but three of the songs in that album were written by the artist in the Seekers band. They disbanded in 1968, reunited in 1993 for the Silver Anniversary tour which I think ended up lasting almost two years because it kept selling out. Then they played some charity concerts and other appearances, along with doing things on their own. In 2011 they were invited to preform with Andre’ Reiu and his Orchestra. In 2013 they celebrated 50 years of the Seekers with their Golden Jubilee concert series. In the middle of their concert series, after finishing a concert one night, Judith had to be hospitalized due to a cerebral brain bleed. After postponing the tour so that Judith could recuperate and rehabilitate. They continued the concert series and that was their final time together. Judith passed away August 5th, 2022. Just a couple of days before Olivia Newton John. Two big loses. Other than Karen Carpenter, I really can’t think of anyone besides Judith Durham that had such perfect pitch. Back then, no auto tune and the artist played their own instruments while they sang. Judith Durham could also play the piano. They have put out a final album ( at least for right now) called Carry me.

When you did your other Seekers reaction I mentioned this was a favourite of my friend from Stratford because she grew up in the circus. Her father had Conklin Shows carnival concessions! Judith was one of few singers with a beautiful natural vibrato and that quality in a voice always makes it sound haunting to me (like Robin Gibb and Aaron Neville). Her version of "Plaisir d'amour" is amazing. Their harmonies superb. Another great song is "Morningtown Ride". They also do a version of "Waltzing Matilda" which I always thought should have been Australia's national anthem since it's based on a highwayman (swagman) stealing a sheep. They also do a stirring rendition of "I am Australian". Their most famous songs ware likely "Georgy Girl" which I'm sure you are familiar with and "World of our own". Treasured in their homeland.

The Seekers first LP with the (withdrawn) 1st press cover. Withdrawn because it shows Ken Ray, the original Seekers' lead singer, in place of Keith Potger. Ken Ray had decided to leave The Seekers to get married and was replaced by Judith Durham. Part two - The Russian folk song is about a pirate on the Volga River. In Russian, the Volga is culturally equivalent to the Mississippi in the US. The Mother River essentially. The song portrays the pirate whose actual name is Steven Razin - in Russian vernacular his first name is pronounced Stenka - sort of a nickname to Steven. In the song the pirate ship is on the Volga and on board Stenka is portrayed as just having spent the night with a Persian princess in his cabin. When he comes out onboard feeling giddy, his pirate sailors remark that he has gotten "soft". Well, he hears this and to show his manliness he takes the princess and flings her into the Mother Volga and then proceeds to lament her soul as she drowns in the river - all to preserve his masculinity with his pirate sailors. I will next attach a video of the classic Russian Red Army Chorus singing the song the way it was intended. THEN!!! I will have a treat for you.
