Don't shave your beard or cut the sides of your head

- www.torahlife.tv Someone asked me about Leviticus 19:27
"You shall not round the side of your head, nor mar the corners of your beard."
In this video I give the answer. The Israelites were directed by Our Creator not to cut their side locks or trim their beard because some of the pagan nations around them at the time practiced cutting their beards in a certain fashion, doing so in connection with the worship of their gods. (Jer. 9:26; 25:23)
If an Israelite adopted the same style, observers might well take it to be a symbol of his religious beliefs, signifying that he upheld pagan worship. Obediently, God's people avoided this style of grooming or personal decoration. So it is appropriate to avoid decorations that would link a person with idolatrous worship.
It was a cultic practice, which some pagan deities looked like a devil goat and Our Creator didn't want His people to resemble a devil goat deity.
It was also common for the pagans to cut or shave the sides of their heads. Same point as with the beard would apply.
i think beards are great :) my two cents.
+Hadarah BatYah um glaaad hahaha
I want to keep God happy, not a wife...
Do you really think that God cares how you look like?. Go. Cares about your spirit, not your flesh. Don't be part of the pharisees.
Argeny De la cruz i think he cares why we do things, for him, us or another person... it reflects our character does it not?
My brother, this is a good thing which God would like his people to follow, whether or not doing it is a matter of salvation. The non-shaver wants to please God. And if his conscious convicts him for shaving, then shaving is sin to him. In the spirit of the apostles, I do believe that we should not shave ourselves if we go into a camp of non-shavers. So as not to offend our brothers, but if we do it, then we do sin and not just by the law of conscience but by the perfect law of God. So please, let us all live in unity; and our brothers that want to eat kosher, follow sabbaths and feasts, wear tsit-tsit and long beards; let them do what our heavenly father designed for His followers to do to represent Christ's kingdom. YHVH bless you all
Some brothers may have ministries that they should care for none of these but for prayer and teaching the Word. But there are varieties of administrations, and all the same Spirit works all in all. When we speak in tongues, if noone interprets, then aren't we speaking what God wants to hear? The Spirit may lead men to follow Yeshua our savior and also seek to do wonderful, unnecessary to us, things of Scripture. These are our brothers and they are led by the same Spirit to glorify God. Do not forbid them. Yet, I understand you don't want them to be in bondage, and want them to feel Christ's grace. Which of them teaches it is necessary for salvation to avoid shaving? Let that man be corrected. But whoever teaches men to nullify the least of God's commandments, is least in the kingdom of heaven. Yet to reach others or live among others sometimes we have to shave, which is acceptable and preferable to not spreading gospel. Teach freedom from strict adherence to man's laws, and the importance of certain matters of torah over others. But don't throw out God's instructions. This is a very touchy subject that we must take with care brothers, so that we all can live in unity as Christ prayed for us. Shalom
I do agree with you, that is the heart that alone matters. But this Spirit of Christ does stir in many men's hearts to represent Him in many ways. They're trying to figure out, through Christ, how to live to please God in every way, and eventually you run out of instructions from the new testament. This video maker has a series of Christ's words called "Yeshua Says" and it is fantastic. The old covenant also led to Christ, but fewer were chosen to see it; and it benefits us all to understand what its truly saying and not the pharisaic interpretation. What better way to understand than to live it? I want us all to understand freedom and also to live to please God by His Spirit. But either way, let's love our brothers whole-heartedly as we are of all Christ. Lol one man says " I am of shavers", another " But I am of the torah too" and suddenly we've divided Christ. Let us not offend our brothers but edify, and love our family as ourselves.
I'm not religious, but i'm opening to spirituality and let my beard grow for over 3 years now, and i start to make a link with the fact that my life is changing a lot since!
Let your beard grow, i beleive it can only do good to your soul/mind!
If one Torah command has had such an effect on your life, how much more would the other 612 have?
When my husband started growing a beard I didn't like it, but now I love it!
Lion of the tribe of Judah , Lions have manes , man is made in the image of the living God
God gave me the ability to grow a beard therefore I grow one. Pretty close to what this bearded brother has. I am a Christian and feel compelled to grow one. I am incredibly active playing basketball, volleyball, fishing, hunting etc. and makes me stand out physically and most people, for whatever reason, cannot nor will not associate a "bearded guy" as being an athlete or active guy (weird actually). In any event, nothing more "manly" than growing a beard and pay homage to the great men in scripture. I pick King David and Moses. "Going to try to comply with the purposes of the almighty" Women can't grow em for a reason. Rock the beard and beard on brothers!!
+ruben cruz Women can grow beards. It just happens later in life.
@@CharlesLamJr only if they have sinned and/or they would want to
Well if you look at it like that, god gave you the ability to shave a beard as well. If YOU want a beard, grow one.
Amen
I was about to shave but then I watched this and God touched me so now I'm keeping it 🙏❤
We are not in the old testament anymore you take some parts then you need to live by all of the old testament .We are free from all rouls.
you CAN shave it is not banned in the Bible the context of the passage says don't do it like the pagans who mourn for their dead they mar themselves tattoos razoring the beard etc but many people in the bible shave their beard and hair as well
@@Fellowrserstart naming them. Don’t mention Job in his mourning. Go.
@@jakeneufeld9866 Just because we're no longer under the law doesn't mean there isn't blessing for following God's laws.
The Psalmist says "Happy is the man who meditates on the instructions (Torah) of God day and night".
Paul says that we have liberty but shouldn't spend that liberty on the flesh. Isn't shaving the beard a fleshly matter? And eating pork and shellfish because we think it tastes good is fleshly as well.
We have liberty in either case when there is a spiritual reason to do so (shaving for military/police/fire service where shaving allows masks to seal so you save lives).
Eating unclean foods not for the sake of the flesh but for the sake of the spirit could be eating what someone has prepared when sharing the Gospel in a far off locale or with anyone who might be offended if you refuse the food theyre offering you.
The first thing I told my husband was u need to grow a beard. I think all men look much better with them
Yup!! I think it looks so good on them. My husband is in the military so he can’t grow one just yet...but it DEFINITELY coming 💯
How about men who can't grow a beard? Wow. So your controlling your husband. Can he choose if he shaves it? If a man said something about a woman to change her appearence that would be a completely different story.
@@rinaldohricko exactly lol, I like what you said, because not everyone can grow out facial hair, although a big beard is awesome not all men want a big beard, for work reasons or because they don’t wanna manage it.
@@rinaldohricko but then again I don’t think she meant it like that, I just think she likes awesome beards, I’m sure she isn’t fussing with her husband or boyfriend about it
Oh, you wonderful woman.
As the good Lord says: "Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard." Leviticus 19:27 It is a sign of your masculinity and righteousness. Young men out there: toss the razor!
***** certain people, no. At the time, the Romans and the Greeks were meant to groom, while Scandinavia, Germania, Nazerites were meant to have long hair and beards lush.Today, in general, short hair is fine, but a long lush beard is smiled upon, still.
It also hides when you are fasting, the Lord said to keep the fasting between you and him.
Great point.
Homeless people are the most beautiful people in my opinion. That is how God did created men.
Thou shall not lie
You convinced me. No more shaving.
YES!
Finally, I have a good reason to let my beard grow long, but I'm sure people will tell me I look homeless. Whatever, they're still in the "matrix," so I shouldn't let it bother me.
forget about them and let it grow
One time, I was waiting to be let into an establishment and I was holding a beverage. An employee of said establishment came out and spoke to the doorman and pointed to me. I thought he said "He's next, with the full beer." Politely, I replied "It's just a soda." To which he replied "Oh no, I said, 'full beard.'"
That was a proud moment.
I love having a beard and not shaving ! Lol , but my wife hates it
I started growing my beard 2 years ago and it is now over 13inches long. It is honestly insane how ADAMANT society is about getting men to shave their beard.
A beautiful beard, just let it grow naturally, no shaping or neck shaving. If want to change it just trim it. If you must shave it off do it to grow your next beard.
Amen! This picture is old, but grown my beard back out, and letting go back to being thick, beautiful and long like the good Lord intended. He even says that men shall not shave their beards or the locks of hair from their heads, for it is a sign of a good, righteous man. IE: Samson, Noah, Abraham....etc.
First time I have ever done this. It's working out better every day.
It has nothing to do with any religion including Judaism or it is the basic in all religions. The principle id simple - don't spend time and energy on unnecessary things because we have very limited time and energy to reach God.
When u begin to grow your beard from a shaved state...it'll itch but once u get past week 2/3 you're good to go. Once u past the a couple months you go into attachment stage. When you think about shaving you begin to feel not to & fool yourself by saying weekend, then next week, then you set a date and the date passes..and then u just can't let go of it.
I shaved last night now I'm regretting it ,I can grow almost a full beard in one week
I had beard. Then RUclips recommend me to watch Shaving videos then I spent a lot to buy an old style shaving materials. Now RUclips recommending me videos about growing beard and stop shaving.
I hate now RUclips.
In my 35s i am a fair skinned man and girls barely looked at me or i was just notmal. And now i got a 7 inch beard and college girls wanna stare andlook at me and they have their eyes fixed on me!
So sorry
Yea right
You're a mysterious guy now that's a good thing!
I HAVEN'T SHAVED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC... AND BECAUSE I'M HELPING A COUPLE OF OLD PEOPLE AND A BLIND LADY .. TAKING THEM FOR A DR APPOINTMENT.. AND THAT WAY I AVOID ANY VIRUSES AND I'M STILL USING A MASK .. AND MAY GOD HELP AND HEAL EVERYONE AMEN SHALOM ALELUYA ❤

I'm growing my beard back, thank you!
“Woman, now that’s another story” 😂
I didnt think I could grow a full beard at all until I tried.
I usually have a beard, but I also live in East Texas, and it is so outrageously humid in the summer that a beard is out of the question. Another thing to consider is the climate you live in. The Hebrews lived in an area with dry heat.
I don't think there is anything in the Bible about putting it into a sort of ponytail speak, to let some air get to your neck to cool you off
Woah 🤯Pagan Magick is all around in the U.S. Thank you so much
"don't be weird, grow a beard"
Respect the nature. it gave you hairs for a reason.
What reason?
I am proud to have a beard but I’m still growing it
I LOVE THE LOOK OF A NATURAL BEARD.
But that’s the Old Testament
I don't have a full beard yet, I just need the sides of my mouth to grow.
Many thanks for your witness & confirming on earth as in Heaven! Russian priest believe our beard protects from homosexuality! Praying about that our ABBA led me to you! Shalom!

Hey, Johanon. This might be an out of the blue question, but why don't you believe in the Trinity?
Jorden Darrett
And where, pray tell, did you come up with such an assertion?
Johanon Zimmerman
You said to another person on a video that you didnt Understand why the Trinity was such a big deal. You may not remember
Jorden Darrett
Ok, again, big deal. You choose to focus on the religious minutia rather than focus on things above, where Christ Jesus is seated. Fix your mind on Him, be the vine that plugs into His branch, stop looking for small issues to argue about.
+Johanon Zimmerman I know right I was thinking to cut the sides of mine and the neck :o geees
Hair is essential . Growing mine 100% natural. Anglo~Saxon Style
Enjoying your videos brother.
These are religious customs that alienate us from the living God and our true purpose. Where did Jesus or Paul speak of physical appearances or physical preservation as vital roles in our walk with the Lord? We are to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus having His characteristics.
I agree with you but he is Jewish.
Alex Davis he is messianic Jew. big difference
John Gardner no. Hebrew Jew wasn't there. The letter j wasn't around then
Sorry for my phone,he dont like english stuff.understand who wants.bye.
Jesus and paul didn't need to go over these things it was already known The lord said he hasn't come to change the law but to fulfill it.
Here we have hair being linked to Holiness!
Leviticus 19:1,2,27
1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.
27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
Good video, I don't have a wife, sadly she died 7 years ago, I do now have a nice bushy beard, it's 3 months since I last shaved, I binned all my shaving stuff so I would not be tempted to shave it off. Only the second week I was just a little itchy. Now at 3 months it's getting very thick and bushy, I don't trim anything off, the beard starts just below my 'Adams' apple' linked to the hairs on my chest and the top part stops 1 and a half inches below my eyes, that is what I call a 'full beard', the only place I trim (I have to do this once a week) is directly around my mouth, more for hygienic reasons so that no hair gets into my mouth and right next to my nose so that no hairs go up my nostrils.
Im growing my beard back too yeah
+The Health Watchman, I do believe that there are some contextual errors in this video. The verses that are being referenced here are strictly and explicitly stating not to shave the sides of your head, beard, forehead, or cut yourself for the dead. The Torah states this a few times I know of; twice in Leviticus (19:27-28, 21:1-6) and once in Deuteronomy (14:1). In all cases it says do not do this to remember the dead because that was a common ritual in that day among other religions. The heathen/pagan would do this to morn for their dead. Now, do I believe that there is anything wrong with growing out your beard? Absolutely not, just as long as you aren't doing it to bring attention to yourself or to show off. Do I believe that there is anything wrong with not growing your beard? Again, absolutely not. There is nothing saying that you have to grow out your beard or not shave it unless you take the Nazerite vow, which are commandments for Nazerite's only. There are times where we are required to shave our beards and that is when we have a skin infection that causes the hair to change color or die. As far as I know, that is the only commandment that says when we HAVE to shave. With all that said, we have to make sure that we read everything in context to get what Yah wants us to know or hear. We must read the before and after verses to understand the complete picture. Thoughts?
Paul DeForge How about niddah?
@Paul DeForge - Thanks for the context comment. Much appreciated. It’s imperative that we seek the intent of what the Holy Spirit wants us to understand and apply to our lives. The message here is “Don’t be like the pagans who do these things to mourn for the dead; cut your beards and hair in an idolatrous ritual . Come out from them and be separate. Be Holy as I am Holy.”
DO NOT BE MISLED: Learning Torah is really crucial...but what about the Bible prophecy
that fulfills Torah? The purpose of Torah is to find faith through the
Messianic prophecies and the prophecies about Israel in the end times.
Torah also fulfills the initial purpose of the Creator for Israel and
mankind. That's what the Messiah and his apostles preached all day long.
The teachings of the Messiah is....Prophecy, prophecy , prophecy and
prophecy. He was a visionary. Torah is a "way of life" not only in the
present but more importantly of the future but Biblical prophecy is our
hope to be aligned with the kingdom living now and forever. However,
there are a lot of Torah Observants out there that only focused on "
Feasts, Traditions, and Shabbat" and Law. law , law and make it a
legalistic lifestyle. That's not what Torah is all about ..guys. Torah
means "instructions" of truth not just civil laws and rituals. Ancient
Israel fell into that pit of religious practices that lost the favor of
the Most High. Isaiah 1:13, 14 and See Hosea 2:11 There is a movement
of Torah believers that took Torah way too legalistic that now they
question Paul's letters and the rest of the NT. That's insanity to
religion to the max. The Bible says that we live in the era of
"Understanding and Prophecy" in order not to be deceived we must attain
that kingdom prophetic understanding. (Matthew 13:9-12) What contaminates men is not goes in or their appearance but comes out of their heart....what defiles your heart is evil thoughts , legalism, being judgmental, and self righteousness . Is your heart circumcised ????? Jeremiah 31:31-34 Shalom
Amen Brother, Its unatural and the way God created us.
That’s what I was saying my wife for a while… that’s why I shave it … if she wants to leave me for having a beard, than so be it. I’m not shaving anymore …
Why is tarzan always portrayed as clean shaven male...I mean how did he acquire a razor and learn to shave in the jungle🤨🤔...quite intriguing, if one may ask!
capitan Phillippe D’Arnot taught Tarzan how to shave 😁
It also says not to grow your mustache past your mouth unless your mourning!!
It really gives me profound joy every time I find a teacher who seems close to Christ and His Word. But hearing you gives me special gladness because you teach Christ's word and Bible studies instead of focusing on debates like flat earth, giants, genealogies, etc. I hope I find more fellow believers like you and become one myself who relies on the Scriptures for his entire walk in this life. Everything contradictory in the world is evil. Thank you for teaching, please pray for my household (My wife, and 3 young children) to be given repentance. I pray and study seldomly but my heart is in slavery to sin still. I'm 21. I smoke and do some things that I know are wrong, but I haven't had the strength to overcome these. I work and try to do good but it seems that I've barely overcome anything. So please pray for His Spirit to take control in our lives, cleanse our hearts and lead us out of temptations. His Spirit is always with us, but we must repent if we are to be led by the Spirit right? I feel that if we take the next steps in repentance, His Spirit will want to dwell with us more. And I fear God's wrath, because I have faith but am I born of Spirit? I know when we cry out to YHWH about our slavery He hears, so please pray with us.
I pray today at 26 that your roots are stronger and your influence branch out to others and your branches feed others with truth in Yeshua's name, Amen.
I have had so many issues messing my beard up trying to get my neck line right I think I’m just going to let it go. I have always wonder just exactly what that scripture meant. Thanks!
Thanks for the interesting video. I am about 3 months with no trimming or shaving, almost 2 inches long. Really didn't want to shave neck and your advice that a longer beard covers that anyway is what I needed. I'll trim or shape it slightly after about 5 months but pretty much plan on letting it grow as He intended. I think balls can help keep it neat and softer.
As far as itching, that only lasted about 2 weeks then got less and less. My brother says it itches at first because you have been shaving causing each hair to be like a little sharp spear that pokes you as it curls back a bit or your skin moves around.
Wonder why some comments are so degradating towards God and scriptures... maybe because they are trying to convince themselves there is no creator and Redeemer.
that directive was for the israelites at that time...the old testament was instructions for living at that time. Christs arrival and teachings brought forth the New Testament which we all are to follow now. so no need to worry about the beard issue...Men are to have short hair women are to have long hair. easy to follow...
The prohibition of cutting the corners of the beard is not the hair. It is the face. The philistines would curt their face peel the skin outward and allow it to heal in that position. This was done to give them a more ferocious appearance for battle, and also to give the impression of gills, cuz their deity was dagon, the fish god. Most scriptures refer to anything that mars the skin permanently, such as tatoos as a no no. Shalom!
This is an interesting topic, for sure. Let us do everything in order
I decided to grow a beard when I read the story of David and his messengers. Seemed like not having a beard was seen as shameful. Jesus had a beard. They pulled his beard and spat on his face.
Dude. Just because he "had a beard" doesn't make it essential for you to. Plus, it doesnt say that in the bible
Nice teaching Beardthren!
let it groooooww, let it grooooowwww. thank you frozen
Good one 😂
Interesting fact: The verse in Leviticus 19:27 uses the word "shahat", which means "to destroy" and is first used in the Bible when God talks about destroying Sodom and Gomorrah. So there's no word "shave" in the original text. Instead of shaving Egyptians did a full epilation of the beard hairline, which gave men a feminine look. This commandment may talk about this particular kind of beard destruction. Facial hair is what God gave men, and in His eyes, it is good. Destruction of what God gave to people, especially of what differs men from women, is terrible in His eyes. People who fled from Egypt with Moses still carried some Egyptian customs, and this commandment was put to end one of them. There's a chance that rabbis of early history have forgotten this fact about Egyptians and started looking for other ways to interpret this commandment.
I agree with you to grow out a beard. I do but, I keep mine well groomed and oiled so I don't look like a homeless guy.

In my opinion: A man without a beard is the same as a Lion without a mane.
Beard is cosmetic, what you need to protect is your heart from sin. Beard is not important after YESHUA pay for our sin, if i shave each day don't make me a sinner. That was for the Israelites in the time of idolatrous nations all over the Covenant people of the twelve tribe's. Also ELOHIM demand that Israelites be different in appearance from the idolatrous nations because Israelites wil be in battles and needed to be detected by long beard.

2 Samuel 19: 24. And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
The man in question is addressing to Christians who follow the Torah and not to unbelievers. The query was raised by a Christian. In this context, I feel he has spoken fairly. Thank you for educating Torah following Christians.
Having facial hair is no more unsanitary than having hair on top of the head. As long as a person showers on a daily basis, it stays just as clean.
Some men can NOT grow any facial hair, deal with it

We're not to trim our mustache either. Scripture doesn't distinguish between the mustache and the beard they are all considered a whole.

Why does Korah mean trimmed beard? Qorach means to trim, not to bald. Levi priest kept a trimmed beard, Korah cannot mean baldness if Levi is commanded not to bald any hair.
Started growing my beard and hair out because I wanted to know what "I" look like without modification. Had a little more incentive, having been asthmatically allergic to the fumes of most shaving creams and aftershaves. Lol
Haven't trimmed either since I took this profile picture, 3-4yrs ago. 😨

We are forgetting the most important reason to let the beard untouched and the sides of our head (peiot) Before we get to Leviticus 19:27,
we should take a read at
Leviticus 19:2 that tells us to be kedushim for He is Kadosh
We should not worry about appearances nor fashion. What son does not want to be like his Father? After all we were created to His image “kadosh”
Friend it is only ever about the Son of God. The Love of Jesus has nothing to do with beards mate! The grace of God has nothing to do with beards! You are teaching legalism. Let Christ be the centre, not your beard :)

It's not a sin. The laws In leviticus were different back then than when jesus came to earth. Dont tell people they cant
the law was done away with, but the true meaning behind it is different
"You shall not grow a satanic goatee to honor pan and you shall not sport a bowl cut to honor the dead."
Aside from the blessings of being what Hashem us to be by allowing Him to determine what we look like rather than ourselves and obeying Torah, I ran across this article by Fox News on the health benefits Doctors share for men to not shave their beards. This is for the priests and in relation to the third Temple. This does not pertain to someone who is not a priest right now. The commands for a non-priest are stated there in Leviticus. Please be encouraged to go read the laws stated in Leviticus again to know how to grow your beard.
Boom. You thought you knew what you were talking about but you dont
I can grow a full beard now. I don't have a wife, so thats not an issue. I do have a girl friend. She is o,k with it. No way I am getting rid of it especially at the moment, when it is going below freezing, in the U.K. Doesn't itch now, about 1/4 1/2 inch long now.

@@repentforthekingdomofgod6908 forincation is sex outside of wedlock.
I agree totally that if your beard is not growing in all that well, let it grow. It will eventually. I started growing my beard (and trimming it) since about age 20. It wasn't until about age 26 that it finally grew into a full beautiful beard. I am curious if trimming the mustache is considered wrong. The mustache gets in my way and I keep it trimmed shorter so I don't consume so much hair lol. As well, when I first started keeping my beard, my mother kept saying it doesn't look good on me, my wife said the same. After awhile, they got used to it.
thank your for the video. what are the health benefits of growing a beard
My husband has a goat tee I love it !! I dislike it when he shaves it off which he hasn't done in years lol
I agree. It keeps me cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
the beard is a set apart thing if we let it grow for the right reasons and knowing it is the natural feature of a man but the heart towards the beard is to be pure because it is given from above to have the appearance of the one who's beard was violently torn out it is also a reminder of the holy one yahshua shalom alechem brother Paul Yahweh bless you and keep you love youngest
