He told Frieza to destroy the saiyans...No he didn't, this was an idea that Akira came up with a couple of years ago, but now you have to say that is true despite when Akira was writing his own manga that wasn't the real reason. See what I mean? You can always change what is the truth in the manga adding info, or another characters, other explanations, etc

Damn, the circumstances behind Vegeta's resentment and hatred towards Goku are completely otherwordly, but I think most of us can somewhat relate to Vegeta. There is always someone that is naturally better than you at just about everything, and no matter the amount of work and dedication you put in, you will never be able to reach them. They may just have the one thing you desire more than anything and they don't appreciate it, and that just makes you all the more resentful and it can start to erode you from the inside out. I never really understood Vegeta's pain until I got older and tasted something very similar to it myself.

Same goes for Vegeta, if he still continues overthinking situations, he'll leave himself open to counter-attacks, and the severity of the counter-attacks will vary from mild to extreme.

It's a good speech and all but it wasn't anything we haven't heard before. We've known he resented Goku for a long time being stronger than him and it was his main motivation to be stronger. It wasn't until Vegeta finally admitted to himself and accepted that Goku is better that he truly developed in my eyes.

Vegeta represents that hard working person and Goku represents that person who was born with a gift. It's like you cramming and constantly studying for a test, and getting a D while the other guy who didn't study at all got an A..... There's that 1 person who does things so effortlessly while you struggle to do them.

as a kid i admired goku because of his stoutness and wanting to do the right thing. and that's still admirable, i'm not going to take that away from him. but at a young age, i guess i had a hard time understanding why veggie hated goku. i only got the part that goku was better than him, from what i could understand at the time, but rewatching the series has showing there's so much more depth to hating him than "he's better than me". Even if i don't necessarily agree with it, I can sympathize with his motives, I get where he's coming from. And having moments like this where i come to a new level of understanding a person and their actions more, makes me appreciate this show more than I ever did as a kid. Yes there is a shit ton of fighting in this show, but there's an underlining purpose to all of it.
SuperAlphamale13 Great post! Felt the same way as a kid and was so confused at Vegeta’s jealousy as being petty but as I grew older and this arc popped up the writing was on the wall. What hit me was when he was insulted by the Supreme Kai also when he called his squabble meaningless....his response of “spend most of your life ruled by another, watch your race dwindle to a handful and tell me what’s more meaningful than ones strength!” That just hit me that Vegeta has been abused physically and emotionally for so long that everything else outside being strong couldn’t mean shit to him! DBZ is basic but its execution deserve full marks!

Goku has a habit of being too relaxed and lowering his guard, and he was taught a lesson when he was severely injured by a puny attack like a ray gun. Vegata has a habit of overthinking situations, in his case, he took too long in finishing Frieza off and decided to drink in the victory which allowed Frieza to use his back up plan - destroy the earth.
In short, if Goku doesn't work on correcting that bad habit, he can be defeated by opponents much weaker than him, and even be killed by them. Same goes for Vegeta, if he still continues overthinking situations, he'll leave himself open to counter-attacks, and the severity of the counter-attacks will vary from mild to extreme.

This line alone shows how much Vegeta has been put through to get where he is, and all just to be second fiddle to someone who was supposed to be Lower than him. Vegeta is single handily the best developed character in DBZ.
It's a good speech and all but it wasn't anything we haven't heard before. We've known he resented Goku for a long time being stronger than him and it was his main motivation to be stronger. It wasn't until Vegeta finally admitted to himself and accepted that Goku is better that he truly developed in my eyes.

as a kid i admired goku because of his stoutness and wanting to do the right thing. and that's still admirable, i'm not going to take that away from him. but at a young age, i guess i had a hard time understanding why veggie hated goku. i only got the part that goku was better than him, from what i could understand at the time, but rewatching the series has showing there's so much more depth to hating him than "he's better than me". Even if i don't necessarily agree with it, I can sympathize with his motives, I get where he's coming from. And having moments like this where i come to a new level of understanding a person and their actions more, makes me appreciate this show more than I ever did as a kid.
Yes there is a shit ton of fighting in this show, but there's an underlining purpose to all of it.

What hit me was when he was insulted by the Supreme Kai also when he called his squabble meaningless....his response of “spend most of your life ruled by another, watch your race dwindle to a handful and tell me what’s more meaningful than ones strength!” That just hit me that Vegeta has been abused physically and emotionally for so long that everything else outside being strong couldn’t mean shit to him!
