Keto Honey Review - Three Different Brands
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 июн 2022
- In this video Terry (my non-keto wife) and I try out three different brands of keto honey substitutes: All-U-Lose, Wholesome Yum, and Nature's Hollow. Additionally, I test my glucose response and let you know if there was any impact. None of these are cheap, but are any worth your money?

Thank you for including Wholesome Yum Keto Honey! I appreciate the feedback on the label... the bottle is small so it was hard to fit it all in, but I will see if there's something we can do to improve that. (Yes, 100% of the total carbs in it are from allulose.) Regarding the aftertaste, we actually reduced the amount of monk fruit in it recently to reduce that aftertaste you experienced. :) Can't wait to see if you end up using it in recipes like you mentioned!
I love your products and what you've done for the low carb community. If you're ever interested in joining me for an interview/video podcast, let me know, as it would be an honor to have you. I just had Carolyn Ketchum (All Day I Dream about Food) on.
I use the Wholesome Yum brand. If you eat it off the spoon you do get a slight aftertaste, but when used in a recipe you only get the honey taste. We have dogs and cats and I refuse to have Xylitol in the house - accidents can too easily happen.
Thank you for being so careful around your animals. When I found out about Xylitol, I also banned it from my universe and went around warning other Keto people about it.
I use the Wholesome Yum myself, and it impresses me in sugar-free yogurt and on keto biscuits.
Edit: In hot tea, too!
I really wished they bannef Xylitol altogether. Sugar free gum has it and my dogs on walks try to pick up food or gum from floor. It takes the smallest amount to kill your dog and the emergency trip will set you back 8000 dollars.
Thanks for sharing
I use the All-U-Lose honey for my honey mustard dressing.
You both are sooo cute... love to see the love ❤️ and not apologizing for it!!
Thanks for the video... awesome & Blessings 🌞
Little piece of advice for those hard to read labels, take a picture of it and blow it up on your phone.
I have only found the natures hollow ‘honey’ where I am in Canada. It is supposed to be refrigerated after opening and it has clumps of crystallized sweetener. For $8 for that tiny container Id expect better product. Taste wise its okay IMO but Im not a fan of xylitol either.
ONLY way I can read those labels ! 👓
Hey Steve! Re: small print labels If you have an iPhone you can make it work as a magnifier. Just go into settings. Then when you click the power button 3 times it turns into a magnifier. Very useful! Also, you and Terry had a very relaxed and happy, laid back vibe. I think the no-kids thing agrees with you!
I totally love following a former, recovering “foodie”. In my mind, it gives you instant credibility! You have never let me down with product reviews and recipes. Love the following up with the blood tests. My husband has type 2 diabetes, has lost 50 lbs and as long as he sticks to the plan, is off nearly all medications. I’m working on weight loss and getting off my high blood pressure medication. I love 💕 how I feel on Keto, the foods are delicious and satisfying AND I find that my former “go to favorites” no longer taste that great anymore. Thanks for all you do. You are a great couple!!!
I never bring anything with xylitol into the house because of how deadly it is to dogs 🐶. I.appreciate you guys doing this taste test. I miss honey in tea
Flatout to the point and informative. A hallmark of this channel.
You two are adorable!! If we all had this kind of relationship after the kids left, the world would be a better place. I love Teri’s no nonsense approach. She doesn’t treat it like a wine tasting, but we love Steve’s attention to detail. Blessings you two!
I respectfully disagree about her. I like how she immediately recognizes tastes, like the comment about the syrup.
PB and Honey sandwich here I come! Thanks for posting.
Your strategic choice of danger pinata tshirt for this honey video was thoroughly entertaining and appreciated! And you guys are so stinkin cute together!
THANK YOU STEVE! Sorry for the yelling. I had no idea there are Keto honeys. I was never much of a fan of real honey but once in a while... a little taste of it was nice. They are expensive but I will not drink them like soda either. Thanks Steve. Terry's reviews are helpful. Non Keto tastebuds are different. I don't remember what normal food tastes like so I cant compare but Terry can.
Yeah neither did I. That is awesome to know. Learn sth new everyday
I use the Wholesome Yum brand and it is AWESOME in yogurt, in hot tea, and anywhere I would use honey.
Love seeing you two. Especially enjoyed your opening quips.
Great video! We really appreciate you two doing this!
Thanks for doing this. Looks promising. Looking forward to your other videos on these products.
Thank you! Was actually looking at some brands yesterday and as usual, you did the heavy lifting for us. I just used your link to order.
Thank you Steve and Terry, I truly value your reviews! I find them vert honest and reliable💖
Appreciate your reviews, & was excited about this one. Looking forward to those 37 recipes you mentioned. 😜
More compelling content from Steve and Terri! Just the other day I was thinking about keto honey- thanks for this timely dynamic duo episode!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Can hardly wait to see your honey-based recipes.
Steve and Terri,
Love seeing you both in a video. Thanks again for helping narrow down the choices. I have pets so some are completely out!!
Waiting on the recipes to try. Great show:)
Hey Steve! I'm new to your channel and I love it. I'm now binge watching while working, lol. You're so entertaining and funny and your shirts make me laugh. You are so methodical in your tests and recipes. I love that you're in your own kitchen with "real" tools and appliances we all use. Thanks for putting out great content. I just joined as a channel member and I've never done that on RUclips before if that means anything. Peace!
You two are adorable! I love that you both do reviews. Your different perspectives really helps in understanding the products and what I might like or not like about them. Thank you!!!
Thank you Steve & Terry for this review! I'm not big on eating honey off a spoon however as you stated there are many recipes that are now an option. I'm looking forward to your future recipes with this substitute.
I've been following you since you began. Although I'm not keto, I enjoy watching you and your family. I love all the research, analysis, and organizational skills. I'm exactly the same way. It's fun to watch someone be as geeky 🤓 as me. I'm glad you kept going when you were thinking of quitting. I look forward to your upcoming honey videos!
Thank you Steve, as always you you give us just what we need, even if we didn't realize we needed it.
First thing I'm making is honey mustard vinaigrette.
And we love seeing Terri - such a sweetheart!
Again need to thank you, and Terri for doing all the work for us! I thought you might get a kick out of the fact that my husband wants to try the peaches and cream KetoChow. He's of the opinion that he's not going to just blindly go along with your choices the way I do! Muhaaha
Terri, made the right choice. The nature's honey is what I use for all my recipes and I use it when I wrap my ribs. Good stuff.
Thank you for the review, I have an unopened wholesome yum honey in my cupboard and I'm glad to hear you liked it. I have used the wholesome yum pancake syrup on both my family and a Puerto Rican friend of my sons without them knowing and everybody loved it on their pancakes.
Laughed out loud at your shirt Steve! Love your channel, Terri added a lot to this episode.
We come for the videos and stay for the t-shirts! Lol. You've got an awesome shirt wardrobe! Seriously, best videos ever!
I enjoy your reviews with you and your wife. Thank you.
Related to other vids where you said people bash you for trying things. I love how you go out of your way to be very transparent and clear. Can't see why someone would call you out. As far as the honey WIN WIN ! Once again your vids are making me salivate and can't wait to get to my kitchen reno.
I’m so glad for you guys in the new phase of your life.
Ohhhh I forgot you did side by sides with your wife. I watched a few of these a year or 2 ago and remember enjoying them. We have only actually been watching Carbs and wheat for 2 weeks. Love the honesty this keto channel provides.
Hope your wife feels better soon.
So excited for some keto honey recipes!!!
I'm looking forward to see how each of these react in recipes. As always, thanks for the information.
Thank you Steve and Terri. I’ve fell off the keto train a few months ago and having such a difficult time getting back on. I am convinced it’s sugar that’s causing me not to start keto again and I can’t remember what I done in the beginning to satisfy my sugar cravings, I think I am gonna have to go back and find some videos on how to start keto all over again.
I used a LOT of fat, initially. Kept me satiated, and the sugar cravings subsided in a week or so.
Terri. I love your tee.
TY 4 this review! Nature's Hollow is the only one I've been able to find in Canada (first discovered on Amazon, then found it at much better price at Sugar-free and More Store in Edmonton), so now if the others show up, i know not to bother with them. So this is very helpful to me!
Yes yes yes yes! Honey! I’ll definitely try one or two of these! Thanks guys another great review.
Thank you for this video Steve. Looking forward to finding out if any behave like honey in recipes.
I like when you have your wife on the show you can tell the products that taste the most “normal” by what she likes because she doesnt follow a keto diet
So they must taste close to the original 👍
Great review as always. Thank you both! This is going to open a lot of recipe doors; I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Caution dog owners: Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs even in small doses.
It will KILL your dogs.
Wow! Did not know that Xylitol was poisonous for dogs! How about cats?
@@NansGlobalKitchen Look it up, but probably not good for them either.
I'm so happy your wife joined......so nice to see....: )
Love when you have your family in your videos
Thanks so much for the review! I have only tried Nature's Hollow. I like to mix it with a bit of yogurt and nut granola, and I find that it mixes in well. It does crystallize rapidly once refrigerated...squeezing it out is now a feat that requires a hot water soak and a vigorous shake. I look forward to trying the Wholesome Yum "honey" next.
Thanks Steve and Terry.
I don't use honey much, but miss it in my tea. I've tried the Allulose. It wasn't great. I won't use xylatol. so i'm gonna try the Wholesome Yum. Thanks again.
Natures Hollow, is My favorite, Its the closest I have tasted to real Honey, I use it in making Honey Mustard sauce, its its really good
Hi Steve & Terri! Thanks for your review I appreciate it very much. I'm not to a point where I can afford that amount of carbs yet but will file the information away for future use.
As a Type II Diabetic who is also pregnant. Thank you SO MUCH for making this video!!!!
TIP / TRICK
When I cannot read very fine print (like on some ingredient-lists), I use the camera on my phone and use the zoom-function to read the text.
I agree with you general disappointment with ridiculously-small print, but also wanted to offer an tangible, practical solution for when you feel like you 'need' to see the ingredients.
Thanks,
Eric
This helped me a lot. Thank you.
Y'all are so fun to watch!👍💞
I tried the Nature's Hollow and one other one called Pyure Harmless Hunny. It contains soluble tapioca fiber and is sweetened with Stevia. They were both OK, but not something I would crave. Thanks for the review.
Hi Steve... I recently adapted an old Weight Watcher recipe called Honey Pecan Chicken using the Nature's Hollow honey and your breading recipe to substitute for corn flakes. The honey wasn't as sweet as regular honey so I added some swerve. It came out almost identical to the original recipe. I too am not thrilled that it has the xylitol, however it doesn't seem to affect my stomach and Believe it or not I am allergic to Allulose. More products seem to be using allulose for sweetener these days. I agree it tastes great in baked goods, but I feel like I'm going to pass out within 30 seconds after eating it. Keep up the reviews... Very informative and appreciated.
I agree about Allulose. I can’t have Erythritol either.
Is it the one where you mix honey with soy sauce by chance?
take a picture with your phone of the ingredients and then zoom in, it works.
Thanks for the eye opener! I too had no idea there’s keto “honey”. What a great revelation!
If it hasn’t been asked for: honey mustard dressing, please! 🙏
Thank you for this review. I don’t use xylitol in my food at all as I get abdominal cramps, I only use it in my home made mouth wash
🖐❤Hi Steve & Teri, Thank You so much for this honey review. I loved honey in my tea but haven't had that in years. I am SoOoo Excited and Thankful 🤗 Grace, Peace, Big HugS and much love to you both❣
Ps. perhaps a magnifying glass might help read the labels 😁👍
Question: lol Umm curious to know why you know what burnt rubber taste like 🤪😂
Have a Blessed day❣
Could WONF mean without natural flavors? Just a guess.
Or WithOut Natural Flavors?? Weird. Google! Google says with other natural flavors!
Yup
We do not have dogs, but I had made a decision on principle not to buy ingredients like xylitol that could accidentally kill pets. (Even though it's in most of our toothpaste products, including the one I need to use.)
Then, a friend gave me Nature's Hollow Mountain Berry jam and I was pretty impressed. At the holidays, I took advantage of a 50% off "TRY ME" coupon code and ordered their sampler jam package of 6 flavors, the honey, the ketchup and the bbq sauce.
My favorites in this order:
The jams
The honey
Mediocre to me:
The ketchup, the bbq
This honey....it was a dark horse win for me. I really didn't even need a honey substitute. No aftertaste at all. I love that I now have a quick liquid, neutral sweetener like this. It's become kind of that go-to squirt into an entree, a dressing, a mayo-based salad like cole slaw where I want a quick hit of sweetness. Even for marinara sauce where the sauce tastes a tad too acidic.
Regarding honey texture and appearance....I never noticed the issues mentioned in the video. I have no issues with mouth-feel, appearance, cooling, etc. I actually like that it's thick, that means I can squeeze it into something and not worry about making that something runny. That's especially great when making bbq sauce or a meat glaze, because a lot of the ingredients (like vinegar) are very runny. I am grateful to have something that doesn't spike my blood sugar and adds an option to my pantry.
For those interested in the jams by this company (a review, Steve?) The apricot jam, I would buy, even ahead of many regular sugar brands. I believe all of the jams are just 2-3 net carbs per T. I don't eat a lot of jam, but I have found that the flavor is good enough that one T is more than enough for me on keto toast. No weird tastes. I use the apricot for glazing meats, desserts and on keto toast. I gave the sampler box of 6 as gifts and one low-carb/keto couple has reordered multiple times. The strawberry and raspberry do not have impressive coloration, but the taste is nice and I know it's at least one of my friends' favorite. Others love the Mountain Berry & The Peach. My favorite is strongly in camp apricot....a flavor not easy to get on keto.
Their jams are great despite the lack of color/appearance in some flavors.
Great video!!! I really enjoy watching you and the little Mrs. Have you tried activating yeast with these. I use inulin now but it doesn't work as well as honey. Please do a video showing this.
Thanks again for a great review. You mentioned honey for BBQ sauce. Have you seen the No Sugar Added Sweet Baby Ray's? They have about 4 varieties using allulose and they are AWESOME. And they are priced very nicely. Usually about $3.50 for 18.5 oz bottle but I got it on sale at Shop Rite for $2.19
Not yet, but I plan on doing a review of G Hughes vs Primal Kitchen, so I'll look for Ray's.
Rays does taste great, but my body reacts to it. It causes me inflammation. I can tell when my body reacts to a product because it affects my vision.
@@kimlackey4135 wow. In what way is your vision affected? And do you know what in particular does it? (Wondering if that's what has happened to me a few times. )
@@SeriousKeto I'm BBQ nut. Tried just about every low carb sauce I could find. Sweet Baby Rays No Sugar blows them away. I have no connection to them. 😀
@@SeriousKeto I really enjoy the all the GHughes stuff...especially the cole slaw dressing...looking forward to your opinion.
Good to see you and Terry doing a comparison video. I've wondered about the keto honeys. I wish wonder if there is a recipe for making keto honey at home.
Making an allulose syrup is easy enough, but you'd need some sort of honey flavoring to add to it.
@@SeriousKeto
Precisely.
I make my own with liquid allulose and LorAnn Honey Flavor, which does contain invert sugar. But so little is used to flavor the liquid allulose, I'm OK with that.
My homemade works great for the keto honey cake I make each year for Rosh Hashanah.
@@SeriousKeto I make homemade maple syrup.
I was using Pyure brand “honey”, but they’ve quit making it... I tried the All-U-Lose, but it’s just flavored water to me... then I found the Wholesome Yum... it feels AND tastes like HONEY!!! it now resides on my dining table lazy susan, and I eat it almost every breakfast, drizzled on one of my homemade oat fiber buns, that I’ve toasted, and spread with peanut butter... pnb&h!!!
I never thought I’d be able to indulge in that combo ever again in my life, and it doesn’t spike me...❤️
I'm not going to lie. At the very start of the video I had to pause to read the sign that was posted on the vac seal. Took me a bit to make it out, but it was fun figuring it out.
I've been wondering how the honey substitutes were. Thanks for being the guinea pig!
Love to watch you 2 you're great together Terry seem to be getting more comfortable in front of the camera
I cannot wait to see follow up recipes :) I cannot have too much xylitol for the same reasons you can’t 😂. Love your shirts!!!
All-u-lose maple syrup is my fav besides homemade.
Steve. Your tee is hilarious. And true!
Now we wait to hear if the xylitol upset Your innards; praying it doesn't.
It has always been my go to Best sweetener.
Only one I will use in my coffee where MUST be NO taste.
Though I have a friend who swears it tastes artificial to her with an after taste.
Thank You Terri! I'm heading to 'the amazon' ;-) & ordering from Your store!! I'm sold!!
If the texture is too gross maybe I can cut with RX sugar plain allulose syrup??
Love their maple one too! Yes wholesomeyum is better but a LOT more expensive.
Though I can't see just eating honey these days with my sweet need mostly dormant; will just be in recipes.
GREAT review!! MORE blessings upon You all!!
Just a tiny bit of gurgle, nothing else...
@@SeriousKeto that is great news! Maybe gut bugs have gotten stronger or calmer or... :-)
WOOT WOOT
Great video! Thank you!
Incidentally, since you didn't care for either the super thin nor thick textures, you could always try mixxing them together to see what you get, or even all three!
Again, thank you for all your great work!!
P.S. How are we coming on the caramels?
I’m not working on caramels, as I don’t care for them as a candy. I made the caramel sauce. That’s good enough for me. 🙂
Hi Steve, thank you for the quality content you create ❤
Xylitol has a delayed effect on blood sugar levels (similar to sorbitol and maltitol) because about 50% of its carbohydrates become active after +/- 4 hours 🙈 Disrupts the balance because it has a surprising effect >> like a 'postpone check' on a bank account (and yes, also affects the digestive system). l 'm a tipe 1 diabetic
I am not a fan of Xylitol. The GI effects it has on me are pretty horrible. 😬
Glad you are considering a future video with allulose and fruit. Hope you pick a fruit that would normally be a bs spiker (like mangos - miss them so much) and not strawberries like T Delauer did. Thanks.
I agree with Terri. Nature’s Hollow is delicious. Since do not have any pets at this time, it is my go to.
First - I feel the same way about small print and white letters on black background. Just = No! As usual, Terry's face says it all. I find that most "keto" reviewers approach products "hoping" that they taste good. I appreciate the non-keto perspective. That said - thanks again for another great video!
This was good....enjoyed...
Ty for your reviews. Do have a place somewhere that you post a quick reference grid/list of your review results?
Natures hollow makes my favorite sugar free strawberry preserves.
It would be great to have a honey option for cooking and putting in tea and every day usage
I like Pyure Harmless Hunny. Haven't tried these versions.
My cheat on reading tiny print is to take a picture with my phone and then enlarge it on my screen. People do look at me funny when I do that at the grocery store.
Take a picture of the label with your phone and the enlarge it. It works🙂
I was not surprised at your blood glucose readings as allulose lowers blood sugar!
So I've heard...
The only one I've tried is the Nature's Hollow bc at that time, it was really the only one on the market. I'll try the Wholesome Yum one, I think.
Tell Terry I love her tshirt.! Cute.
I just saw the wholesome Yum
At Sprouts. I tried reading the back but between the color of the writing and one the lab l and the size, I decide to look it up online to review.
Idk who thought of that kind of label.
Your “Honey” did a honey review with you! 😃
Terry love your tee-shirt.
I forgot to add to my previous comment that if you put the nature's hollow honey in the microwave it makes it thinner and easier to pour. It also has to be kept in the refrigerator After opening so microwaving it is a must.
Dunno if this was already mentioned, but WONF means "With Other Natural Flavors"
ok thanks.
I’ve only used Natures Hollow really like it because it’s thick and great in recipes. Xylitol doesn’t affect me though.
I was glad to find this review! I have a honey dependent holiday recipe that I"d like to ketofy. I have a question that all your research might've found the answer to. You talked about xylitol effects... It hits me the same way. Same with allulose. (Your Wonderful caramel sauce made me pay for a full day : O but I was home so I et the whole recipe anyhoo ) They both feel to my guts like sorbitol. Which raises my blood sugar as much as SUGAR sugar. Does anybody know - if your gut reacts badly, does it follow that your blood sugar is reacting badly also? Even though these sugar subs are technically not Supposed to?
WONF stands for 'With Other Natural Flavors"
When the print is too small, I just take out my phone and take a picture of it and then I can expand the picture. It’s kind of cheating, but it’s easier than finding a magnifying glass!
Thanks for the review. Have u done one on keto maple syrup substitute? I have 3 different ones. I would like to see that. I should do a review!
Yes. It was a two-parter about 3 years ago.
@@SeriousKeto ok I'll search for the videos. Interested iif u reviewed the same ones I have.
Wish we could easily get allulose over here really interested in its caramalisation properties, seems that it hasn't been approved yet, so we can only import through ebay/amazon, which is expensive. Hate how 95% of low/zero cal syrups are way way to runny. Like horrible glue, it's the only one with honey consistency, honey is extremely thick. But slime is an issue.
