I don't think people can relate to the feeling that it is to hug another mexican friend in a foreign country, both proud of what the other has achieved. I'm so proud of the three amigos. I hope many other good filmmakers come out of Mexico.
These three mexican directors (Inarritu, del Toro, Cuaron) are the most creative and fantastic directors for decades. Gravity, Birdman, The Revenant, The Shape of Water and Roma are fantastic movies!!!!!
I think that Roma is what give the Academy the guts to have Parasite as best picture of the year. But Parasite and Roma are very different and the two deserve to be recognized individually.
Now Guillermo del Toro needs to win again in this category so the Three Amigos of Cinema (Iñárritu, Cuarón and Del Toro) have two Oscars for Best Directing each.
He might win for Nightmare Alley. The teaser looks phenomenal. He does have solid competition with Jane Campion's return to cinema and PTA's overdue narrative but there's a strong chance of Guillermo winning Best Director, the Academy loves him
0:13 Wanna point out Guillermo's beautiful and honest speech here, you can tell his love and appreciation for his fellow filmmakers and his awareness that "it's just an awards ceremony" -- even tho you can tell he's especially elated when his buddy Alfonso wins
Annie Burke He did but it not impressive as 5 Oscars best directors in the last 10 years are Mexicans. Bong Joon Ho did for the Asian community but Latino directors winners are more impressive and influence Bong Joon Ho to win it.
