This is one of my new favorite channels. I am a big fan of Reborn Pipes and have learned a lot from Steve. Your videos are excellent and just as good as his blog. Every new restorer should subscribe to your channel.
Another great video. I'm new to restoring and/or bringing my pipe finds back to life. I'm still learning and your video series has been great watch and learn. I have been watching from the recent back through the beginning. Yes backwards. Lol Thanks. Keep them coming. Blessed Be.
How did you prepare the stummel for staining? I ask because I’m looking to do this to a few sandblasted pipes that may be difficult to simply sand down. Do you strip the stummel with alcohol, acetone? I’m a woodworker by trade, but I’ve never refinished a pipe! The normal process for refinishing a piece of wood or furniture wouldn’t be the same for a tobacco pipe I would think. Many thanks! Also I appreciate your channel. Thank you for your videos/content.
Thanks for sharing very informative it may seem a dumb question but could the same principle be applied to a castello sea rock turning from brown to black cheers stay safe
Oh my, I was looking for a video on how to stain a pipe, and I just found the video on the same pipe shape that I want to stain and even the same color and the same detail on the rim! Lucky me!
Awesome video as all of your stuff, some neat little tips in there even for senior pipe restorers. For finishing off a rusticated or sandblasted pipe such as this and to reach a slightly glossy and even finish you can also try using Danish Oil. I love that stuff and so do a lot of Danish pipemakers. It seals the pipe very well while still giving it the possibility to breathe and you do not run into the problem of carnauba wax building up in the ripples during the polishing process which is annoying to get rid of. Cheers from Germany, Daniel
Hi, i want to congratulate you for your excellent job, you are unique at this and have incredible videos, you are objective, clean and have a lot of class, can you help me please with a pipe that i have? If you can help me i will appreciate it alot, i would like to have your email so i can send you the photos of the pipe im having issues, thank you sincerely Dr. Jurado
I wanted to share this link with you in case you're interested in this black dye which is supposed to be super black. I've never used it but Springfield Leather seems to like it and the man that owns the company has some very interesting products. Your channel was just recently recommended by my wifes oldest son who is into restoring estate pipes and when I saw you were using black dye I immediately thought of this video that I watched a few months ago because I'm also into leather craft so maybe you'll find this dye interesting and give it a try. ruclips.net/video/YoF4RtHl1LU/видео.htmlsi=BcE56OoUdbhV9dAe
Very good information since I have a couple of estate pipes that I will stain. It will be my first staining endeavor.

Nice method, I'm going to try this. The bowl coating worked on my Ascorti was pleasant. Thank you for that one also.
Ray j you are welcome. Let me know how it worked out.
The bare briar rim makes the pipe resemble a Savinelli Roma, very nice!
Scott Stewart thanks
nice video. May your pipe always be full and your matches always dry.

Phenomenal video. I have been struggling with getting a jet black stain. This helps a lot. Just keep putting the black on until its BLACK. Thank you.
TheG3P pretty much. Glad it was useful

I'd like to see a video on how to prepare a replacement stem. You do amazingly careful work!
Laphroig is good, but lagavulin distillers edition is king. Loved the lesson. Ty

Mayor of R'lyeh thanks for the tip. I am going to give it a try.
I just linked you up on Instagram to a restoration I did on an old Lindstrom pipe where I used Danish Oil for finishing if you want to check it out.
Good stuff as always👍🏾
Nice video. I'm in the process of restoring a pipe of my own so I'm taking in all the info I can about refinishing and staining. Thanks for sharing.
Pipe Miner glad I could help. Happy piping!
I am new at pipe making. So when you finish the pipes with dye do you just use white diamond and wax not Tripoli?
Love the Gypsy Jazz intro!
Very cool!
Tim Mitchell thank you
So I have a pipe with a stain on it, meaning it is not "bare wood". Do I need to sand it down past the stain first?
