One of the most famous actors of all time, Sean Connery, has died. He was 90 years old. A cause of death has not been revealed but his family has confirmed his passing.

Hope that your journey is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you come into harbors you're seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind-
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and learn again from those who know.
Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you're destined for.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so that you're old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you've gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaca to make you rich.
Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would have not set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.
And if you find her poor, Ithaca won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you'll have understood by then what these Ithacas mean.
I think your journey, here , was very rich! Now that you have arrived in Ithaca, I WISH you rest and continue in pace !

I’ve loved Cavafy for 50 years but only discovered this poem in Bali in 2018, at a Warung called Ithaka I found a copy of The Odyssey. So synchronic! Then tonight looking up Sir Sean on IMDb I saw he’d recorded the poem. Thanks for posting!

Everybody looks for their Ithaka. It takes a long time to make this journey because it's a journey of wisdom... full of experiences and adversities. This is your treasure!!!! Be grateful for this long journey and happy for your failures because this will be your best and biggest achievement of your life. Don't hesitate to start the journey! It will reward you!!! It will please you!!! It will make you complete!!! It will be the reason for your life.... to test your stamina but you'll become a better man, afterall!!!! Evidently, it is worth any effort!!!! In the end you will find out that your destination is the destiny of your unique and wise existence and that matters!!!
