  • This video covers the restoration of this 1982 steel framed Peugeot Classique bicycle, built from Japanese Tange 2 double butted tubing. Peugeot bicycles where manufactured in South Africa (under license to Peugeot France), from the late 60’s until the 90’s by local frame builder Gotty Hansen (Hansom Cycles) and later by the Western Flyer Company in King Williams Town. The bikes were well built and affordable and this made them very popular amongst both the social and racing cyclists.

    Nice bro. My first bike back in 1988 was a used classique from Dave Wiseman in Durbs. I rode that thing everywhere including dicing trucks down the freeway to pinetown.

      Thanks 👍🏼 Awesome bikes and the dicing trucks brings back good memories down here in CT as well, we all thought we were bulletproof back then 😁👊🏼

    So many old bikes end up with an eclectic mix of components…Shimano rear derailleur, SunTour front derailleur., CLB brakes, Stronglight crank, and were those Huret hubs?

    • @BuffsVintageBikes
      @BuffsVintageBikes  2 года назад

      Modern bikes end up with them as well. The first thing most people do is customize their bike to suit their style, be it for weight or ascetic purposes. No one wants what everyone else has I guess.

    You can make the cable guides on the top tube out of hydraulic tubing. The guide under BB can be made out of one of those steel guides off a V-brake. Beat the lockdown by dropping it off at the brazing bloke on the way to buy some beer LOL.

      @@BuffsVintageBikes I'm doing one at the moment- an Elswick, made from rusty 531 LOL. I use a DIY sandblaster to de-rust them. It is a pain in the bum to use, but it gets the last molecule of rust off the steel, and leaves a nice rough surface, so the paint sticks better.
      Your restorations are great BTW, and the commentary is informative and nice to listen to.

    Great video, very informative. I'm in Ireland and am about to start a refurbishment of an old Peugeot. I was curious to know what products you used for the polishing of the handlebars, stem, etc and what attachments used on the dremel. Thanks also for the history lesson of the bikes production. You've earned a new subscriber. 👍🇮🇪

    • @BuffsVintageBikes
      @BuffsVintageBikes  4 года назад +2

      Busta Bloodvessel Thanks for the comments and subscription 👍🏼 I'm not sure what the Dremel attachment is called but it's the same one that takes the small grinding disks. Almost all my polishing is done using Scrotchbright pads (I cut them down to size for the Dremel) or different grades of wet sandpaper as prep work and final finishing with Autosol polish. Hope this helps and good luck with your restoration 👍🏼

    The term restoration refers to metal treatment, paint and relabelling. All you did here is remove rust by sanding and making things look worse.

    • @BuffsVintageBikes
      @BuffsVintageBikes  Год назад

      You’re correct… to a point. The parts were however fully restored and although the paint wasn’t redone (due to covid constraints at the time which I mention in the video). It certainly wasn’t made worse as the rust was removed to stop further creep. But thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
