    First I thought that’s way too much of an effort, no matter how great it will turn out. With time I realized that it is about the process. Keeping the original part and doing it yourself. Thanks for showing us how we can save these beautiful things. Keep it up :)

    Late era peugeots have some of the best paintjobs. This one strangely gives off y2k vibes with the soft purple. Thank you for saving it instead of stripping all that away.

    I got 2 vintage roadbikes.
    The 2nd one, i put a modern groupset on it.
    It feels really good. So comfortable. So efficient.
    But man.. I gotta admit, no matter how uncomfortable it is, downtube shifters is the most romantic way to ride a bike.
    Beautiful job gary! She's lovely!

    • @garysprojects
      @garysprojects  3 года назад +2

      Robby Yudha Phasa thanks my dude, appreciate it! That’s cool, I’ve always wanted to try that. I think they call it a neo-retro build? I’m sure it would ride amazing & smooth. Down shifters aren’t too bad once once you get used to it! Although after riding my MTBs it did take me a second to readjust. I do have one more Peugeot road bike I am going to build up so stay tuned, cheers !

    • @atomicat
      @atomicat 3 года назад +2

      Yeah i think people called it neo retro.
      I do agree, downtube shifter would be so uncomfortable and inefficient if you're going for a long ride and going fast. Other than that, i have nothing to complain about. It just amazing that this simple machinery can bring so much happiness.

    Nice! Quick tip for pedals always remove them when they are still on the bike, that gives you leverage and stuff to grab when you try to remove them, if they are super tight I just use a strap to hold one of the arm in position (usually attached to the chainstay) and it always worked :)

    • @garysprojects
      @garysprojects  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the tip! I will definitely try that next time 👍😊

    • @kevinfrost1579

      Agree tip of always removing pedals first before dismounting cranks and BB. Normally hold the crank at 3 -9 o'clock position and push down on crank nearest your body to get the best mechanical advantage. Similarly using same technique always dismount the cassette or older freewheel first before working on or dis-assembling a rear wheel. If it's stuck clamp the spline tool in a vice facing up, drop the wheel onto it and grasp wheel rim both sides to exert extra mechanical purchase - usually works. Loved the vid, great work Gary

    Lovely job! I'm actually in process of restoring 80/90 Swiss TIGRA road bike, with whole Shimano ex 500 except 1050 headset on vitus999 frame. Originally had this groupset on smaller purple centurion, but the seat post was seized and frame was to small anyway, so I've ended up buying vitus999 Tigra signed frame, and giving it fresh repaint (purple+silver fork), so it looks gorgeous now. Unmounted it to a single screw and cleaned everything. Had some problems on the way (french bottom bracket-always pay attention if it's BSA for sure), but right now only thing left is to polish aluminium parts. Can't wait to build it back, I ve been working on it at weekends in my hometown Słupsk, as i'm living at dormitory in Gdańsk. Can't wait for the final effect. Your video motivated me a lot, purple/white reminds me of my bike. One of my favourite Restoration videos, you actually had some job with this bike, unlike others who just buy perfect condition bikes, clean it up without even greasing bearings and call it a restoration.
    I wish it would be possible to upload photos here.
    Brawo!

    Regarding the use of ice to undo the pedal. This makes logical sense. Cold makes metal contract and both the crank arm thread and the pedal axle thread should each have shrunk back from each other just a tiny bit thus creating less metal to metal pressure or increasing the separation between the threads. Conversely heating the threads should have caused them to expand against each other thus making the thread tighter.

    Great video, but What about all the scrapes are you not going to repray ?, i recently got a 1987 Peugeot so just going to clean up abit and respray to the original paint theme 👍regarding handle bar tape just going to take off old one and buy new, i might change my wheels to black ⚫ wider depth rims dont like the originals.

    Instead of wasting ice, just put the crank in the freezer next time. Also, a torch will come in handy on seizes stuff like that. I noticed ur tool wasn’t the strongest, I bet if you had that wrench from the beginning, and you slipped a pipe over the crank or the wrench, or both, and heated up the crank or iced it, it would’ve popped from the beginning. Both the crank and the wrench you were using weren’t that long so you were never getting that much torque on it, combined with the shirt tool

      Also, some Teflon tape on those threads when reassembling will help when it comes time to take back apart(:

  • @Hansmeiser2008

    Nice restoration!
    Some Tips:
    - Put new grease into the headset and the hubs
    - Put some oil into the freehub (ruclips.net/video/voJw-M3dyQM/видео.html)
    In combination with new brake pads (R55C4 or swiss stop), handlebar tape, tires, inner tubes, and chain the bike should feel completely new.
