First I thought that’s way too much of an effort, no matter how great it will turn out. With time I realized that it is about the process. Keeping the original part and doing it yourself. Thanks for showing us how we can save these beautiful things. Keep it up :)
Haha yes for sure ! Gotta love what you’re doing , quite meditative for me. Cheers !
Yes agree way too much unessesary cleaning 😅 god bless your patience 🙏 😅
Late era peugeots have some of the best paintjobs. This one strangely gives off y2k vibes with the soft purple. Thank you for saving it instead of stripping all that away.
Aubreykun totally !! Peugeot did so many awesome paint jobs in that era! Thx my dude 🤗
Nice job. We are restoring a 1971 Peugeot now. Interesting idea about using house paint on bikes.
Cheers!! Peugeots are classic
Great result, looks so much better nice!
Thanks for your support as always!! super happy with how it turned out, appreciate your tips & advice :D
Looks great! Always loved the fades of the 80's and early 90's.
Thanks my dude ! Appreciate that. Same here so many cool colors!
Looks awesome bro, that purple fade is rad! nice paint touch up too
thanks my dude, appreciate that! I love all the 90s paint jobs, they had some killer ones back in the day
I got 2 vintage roadbikes.
The 2nd one, i put a modern groupset on it.
It feels really good. So comfortable. So efficient.
But man.. I gotta admit, no matter how uncomfortable it is, downtube shifters is the most romantic way to ride a bike.
Beautiful job gary! She's lovely!
Robby Yudha Phasa thanks my dude, appreciate it! That’s cool, I’ve always wanted to try that. I think they call it a neo-retro build? I’m sure it would ride amazing & smooth. Down shifters aren’t too bad once once you get used to it! Although after riding my MTBs it did take me a second to readjust. I do have one more Peugeot road bike I am going to build up so stay tuned, cheers !
Yeah i think people called it neo retro.
I do agree, downtube shifter would be so uncomfortable and inefficient if you're going for a long ride and going fast. Other than that, i have nothing to complain about. It just amazing that this simple machinery can bring so much happiness.
Thank you, Gary. Really rewarding to see a finished project and to see how everyone else approaches paint restoration. Nice job.
Thanks my dude, appreciate that! Glad you liked it ! 🤗🤗
Kudos. What a lovely restoration on a lovely bike.
Jim Wocha thanks my dude I appreciate it! :D
Such a nice video! What a vibe ☀️:)
Thank you I appreciate that !! 😊
Thanks for sharing! I will be acquiring a Peugeot from the 70s--and have never restored a bike before. But appreciate you keeping all the parts original and cleaning it up.
Awesome! They are great bikes, classics for sure. Enjoy, cheers !
il n est jamais trop tard pour commence, volonte ,et persistence.🤔
Really great job man, looks great.
Thank you mate I appreciate that !
Very nicely done! Good eye on the paint matching!
thanks my dude! got lucky haha
Thanks for the tips. Good video.
No worries at all, cheers !
Stoked on the paint touch up. Great idea!
Thanks man ! Appreciate it 🤗
Nice! Quick tip for pedals always remove them when they are still on the bike, that gives you leverage and stuff to grab when you try to remove them, if they are super tight I just use a strap to hold one of the arm in position (usually attached to the chainstay) and it always worked :)
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely try that next time 👍😊
Agree tip of always removing pedals first before dismounting cranks and BB. Normally hold the crank at 3 -9 o'clock position and push down on crank nearest your body to get the best mechanical advantage. Similarly using same technique always dismount the cassette or older freewheel first before working on or dis-assembling a rear wheel. If it's stuck clamp the spline tool in a vice facing up, drop the wheel onto it and grasp wheel rim both sides to exert extra mechanical purchase - usually works. Loved the vid, great work Gary
@@kevinfrost1579 thanks for the tips Kevin, appreciate it !! Will remember for next time for sure. Glad you like the vid , Cheers!! 🤗
Nicely done! Great tips on tidying up the scratches on the frame, will give those a go on my next project. Thanks!
randyandjody thanks my dude! Hope it’s helpful and good luck with your project! 🤗🤗
beautiful restoration -- really appreciate the tips very useful
Angelo Medina thanks my dude! No worries at all glad you found it helpful 🙏😊
Nice videos man! I like the explenations you're giving and keeping it smooth. NICE
Thanks my dude I appreciate that! Cheers 😊
Beautiful work, awesome bike ❤🔥
Thanks my dude ! Appreciate that :D
Enjoyable video dude and great job the bike looks awesome
Sonnycheese thanks my dude! Glad you liked it. Thanks for the kind words!!
Nice paint matching!
imcorn1125 thanks my dude!! Not exact but close enough for me haha
Love it! It's easier to remove pedals first, then the cranks. Stand over back wheel. Hold one crank horizontally, then spanner the other off one turn. Then repeat other side.
Cheers my man! Ya I’ve been doing that since and it’s easier for sure! Cheers
Love Peugeot well made bike! Great job!
Chris Mad hell ya ! Thanks my dude :D
Cool video! That bike looks awesome!
Thanks my dude!! Appreciate it 🤗🤗
That’s an excellent restoration 👍👍👍👍
anthony morgan thanks my dude i appreciate that 🤗

jeppep95 thx dude ! Appreciate it :D
Well done.

idk how you ended up in my recommendations, but im glad you did. nice bike man!
Gio Gio Hahha I don’t know how either! Glad you like it ! Cheers! 😊😊
Awesome man
Long Le thanks my dude!
such a beautiful bike, well done.
Thanks homie I appreciate that! 🤗
I enjoyed watching this. Very interesting. Makes me want to go out and find a nice vintage bike and see how well I do with it. The colors they used on bikes years ago were awesome. Mahalo!
Hell yeah you should!! It’s a lot of fun and you learn a lot as well. I agree there was so many cool colors back then! Some of my fave color scheme as Back then 🤗🤗🤗 cheers!
@@garysprojects you know, I might just do that. Even to get ahold of an old bike to practice taking apart, clean and reassemble.
Good luck! 🤗🤗🤗
Awesome video! 👏
Toasty Rides thanks man! 🤗🤗
great work
Thanks my dude ! Appreciate it 😊
such an amazing vid, greetings from Germany
Thanks homie! Greetings from Australia! 🤗
That’s amazing 😍
Lei NIE thanks my dude ! Appreciate it 🌝
great vid, some good tips.Gotta love the French bikes hey.
Ayyy yup love em, they had some great paint jobs back in the day. Cheers!!
Loved the video. Subbed. I really like that this is done without a ton of expensive tools and you put a lot of thought into your projects. I the same bike as this one and I remember the nightmare of taking the pedals off. Seems to be an issue with those pedals
Thanks man I appreciate that! haha yeah my tools are pretty cheap I guess that’s why they break 😂😂😂. Thanks for the kind comments, appreciate it ! 🤗🤗
Really pretty bike, nice job !
I’ve got a late 90s Peugeot Origin mountain bike in a darker purple, had it from new.
Nice ! I love Peugeot mountain bikes, you don't really see them around much here in aus. They had really cool paint jobs. Your bike must be in pretty good condition if you had it since new!
Lovely job! I'm actually in process of restoring 80/90 Swiss TIGRA road bike, with whole Shimano ex 500 except 1050 headset on vitus999 frame. Originally had this groupset on smaller purple centurion, but the seat post was seized and frame was to small anyway, so I've ended up buying vitus999 Tigra signed frame, and giving it fresh repaint (purple+silver fork), so it looks gorgeous now. Unmounted it to a single screw and cleaned everything. Had some problems on the way (french bottom bracket-always pay attention if it's BSA for sure), but right now only thing left is to polish aluminium parts. Can't wait to build it back, I ve been working on it at weekends in my hometown Słupsk, as i'm living at dormitory in Gdańsk. Can't wait for the final effect. Your video motivated me a lot, purple/white reminds me of my bike. One of my favourite Restoration videos, you actually had some job with this bike, unlike others who just buy perfect condition bikes, clean it up without even greasing bearings and call it a restoration.
I wish it would be possible to upload photos here.
Brawo!
Thank you! I appreciate it, means a lot thank you. Hahah yeah I hate it when people do a bike build and call it a "restoration" lol. Would like to see your bike if you're on instagram send me a photo! The key to finishing it up is just to keep working on little bits here and there.Cheers mate and good luck with your restoration!!
@@garysprojects Yea, I'll send you when it will be done.
nice work bro!
Felipe Farias thanks my dude! Appreciate it
Good work lad. Love a steel steed!
Robert Farnsworth thx my dude, appreciate it 🤗🤗🤗
Fantastic job - I wish I had the knowledge and tools to restore retro bikes
Jamie Forbes give it a shot! I knew nothing and I am still constantly learning. I started by buying a cheap 2nd hand tool set off eBay and started from there. Then just a lot of RUclips/reading hahah, one problem at a time. Good luck!
@@garysprojects I've got an 80s Alan frame to build, I was going to give it to my local bike shop to build but I might just try it myself. Many thanks for replying. Cheers
Jamie Forbes nice! Just take your time, if you’re unsure about something you could always call your local bike shop, I’m sure they would be more than to help! 👍👍
Nice...enjoying your videos. God bless.🙋
Thanks my dude appreciate it ! 🤗
@@garysprojects I love old bikes i appreciate your hard work and passion to restore them they look way cool...😎
@@stevecrump1375 thanks for the kind words ! I love how they look & function too, simple & elegant. Cheers!
Regarding the use of ice to undo the pedal. This makes logical sense. Cold makes metal contract and both the crank arm thread and the pedal axle thread should each have shrunk back from each other just a tiny bit thus creating less metal to metal pressure or increasing the separation between the threads. Conversely heating the threads should have caused them to expand against each other thus making the thread tighter.
Ayyyy tru that !
well done
Thank you!
Shout out Sir I'm always watching you from Philippines🇵🇭❤️
Thanks homie! Hi from Melbourne Australia ❤️
lovely bike
cooking with memes thx my dude! Nice profile pic :D
Man Id kill for a road bike like that
Haha thx my dude, appreciate it!
Pro tip: use a magic eraser to clean the saddle. It will remove the scuffs and dirt right out.
Oooo good idea I’ll have to try cheers!
Regarding the pedals I find that taking them off before removing the chainset makes the job a lot easier. Great video really enjoyed watching it.
Great idea! I did that for my latest build and it worked a lot better thanks 😊
Nice! One thing I learned in college art class was that paint always dries a shade darker than when wet...
It sure does!!
great ! ! !
🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊
Very nice
Thanks my dude , appreciate that ! :D
@@garysprojects i love Peugeot

hermosa bici!
🤗
Nice work. I have a 1991 Peugeot Ventoux PBS 14 in exactly same paint scheme as you have but with original Shimano Exage 500 groupset. My paint is so screwed it's waiting to be repainted in total.
Cheers man! Love the paint on it , very nicely done. Cool that you can choose what color when you repaint it though. Exage 500 is a decent group! Should perform well
@jazzper_nl your bike is purple and pink ?
@@rixostv8083 yep!
it is!@@rixostv8083
Very relaxing to watch. Did you do this to resell it or are you keeping it?
Thank you glad you enjoyed it! Not sure yet, keeping for now haha :D
First time seeing your videos and subbed. Liking your laid back approach. Couple thoughts from me. Bradawl for clearing outer cable ends for smooth inner. I start bar tape from end of handlebars to overlap is away from hand pressure.
David Walton thanks for the tips! Yeah I think it is most common for people to wrap bars that way, I like the cleaner look without having to use bar tape so did it top down! Thanks more vids to come 🤗🤗🤗
Nice restoration! I would personally remove the toe clips as they look great, but they can be very dangerous while riding. Or just leave them hanging upside down and use the pedals as flats.
Cheers man appreciate that! I actually never had any problems with them! But yeah each to their own
Thumbs up ! :) Very cool solution on a gear control unit, although i would've take it apart and try to glue the broken part, or try to 3D print it or some sh*t like that, if it's plastic :D
Plamen Paco hahah yeah I just did the quick fix lol
tres belle.🙂
Thank you very much 🙏😊
😍❤️🚲Hermosa beautiful
Thank you 🤗🤗
hi, I saw listing similar to this bike and im wondering if it will fit me. im 5’7 and the frame size is listed as 54cm medium.
Mmmm could be tight , I’m 5’9 and I ride 53-54
But depends if you have long legs or not
Nice bro!, i just bought the exact same bike...what kind of handlebar tape did you use?
Ayyy nice! Same bike :D haha! I used cheap cloth handlebar tape
Purple is such a bike-colour. Don't enjoy it much anywhere else.
Thanks homie , appreciate that !
5:23 It's called a grub-screw.
Hahah I never heard that before ! Thx 😊
Nice job on a pretty bike. Only two things made me cringe; no crimps on the cable ends, and using WD-40 in that cable housing. That stuff is mostly solvent, can't be good for the cable or the housing. Nonetheless, good job on a nice bike.
ayyy thanks my dude appreciate it! thanks for the tip!! will keep in mind for next time, maybe I will look into a lubricant vs a solvent. Also I ended up putting on crimps ;)
Another fine restore you've done ,congrats !! Do you collect and/or sell? Take care ,stay safe & healthy!!
Thanks homie! It’s 1991! Cheers 😊
Sometimes collect, sometimes sell! I actually sold this one thx ☺️😊
Great video, but What about all the scrapes are you not going to repray ?, i recently got a 1987 Peugeot so just going to clean up abit and respray to the original paint theme 👍regarding handle bar tape just going to take off old one and buy new, i might change my wheels to black ⚫ wider depth rims dont like the originals.
thank you mate i appreciate that ! sometimes i think its better to keep the original paint, as it has character. wishing you the best for your project cheers!
💓
❤️
you should take the pedals off first when it's on the bike stand. it will be easier
Thanks homie! Will do cheers
Instead of wasting ice, just put the crank in the freezer next time. Also, a torch will come in handy on seizes stuff like that. I noticed ur tool wasn’t the strongest, I bet if you had that wrench from the beginning, and you slipped a pipe over the crank or the wrench, or both, and heated up the crank or iced it, it would’ve popped from the beginning. Both the crank and the wrench you were using weren’t that long so you were never getting that much torque on it, combined with the shirt tool
Also, some Teflon tape on those threads when reassembling will help when it comes time to take back apart(:
Ahahah yeah having the right tool definitely helps! also like the breaker bar idea, could come in handy. I’ve taken a few pedals off since and no problems yet. thx for the tips!! 😊
@@mstrshkbrnnn1999 a smear of grease does a great job.
I'd use car wax after the t cut, just give some more protection
Yessss I think that’s a good idea! Also I’ve heard that turtle wax & polish is good too
@@garysprojects yes turtle is the car wax I use, it's easy to apply
I hate Pugeot but love the video.
Hahahahahaha thanks Mike !
Bartape from down to up maaaan common
😂😂😂
Why ddint you regrease your headset?
Cos it was smooth like butter
Nice restoration!
Some Tips:
- Put new grease into the headset and the hubs
- Put some oil into the freehub (ruclips.net/video/voJw-M3dyQM/видео.html)
In combination with new brake pads (R55C4 or swiss stop), handlebar tape, tires, inner tubes, and chain the bike should feel completely new.
Greeting from Germany
Thanks homie I appreciate the tips!! definitely did know about the free hub ! cheers from Australia!
How was the weight? 10 kg
Yeah around that I think!
Can you sum up the costs?:) thx and great vid
Cheers! Which costs were u after?
@@garysprojects i mean After all. What did the restoration cost you?:)
@@clarasiegfursvw296
It’s kinda hard to price because some of the parts I had , bolts/ paint/ materials etc but here u go
Bike / new cables / housing / chain / grips / pedals / tyres / stem around $250 + labor

hahahha nice!
You also looked to remain 5kms of you house...
YTB 🤙🤙
bro aluminum expands in heat..no wonder it made it harder for you to take the pedal off
hh155 lesson learned 😂😂😂
You are right metal expands when heated but this it doesn't make it harder. It is the right thing to do.
Yannick Rolland thanks homie! 😊😊
Remove the pedals while crank is installed.
Cheers!! 🌝🌝🌝
1991? That's all original color? I watch bike races back then I didn't really see this color all these new color just seem to pop out within the last 10 years which zipped by but I remember that year very well I member all years not that I'm an avid bike rider just don't remember this color in 1991 I was in southern Utah this bike went last where I was did I do remember them shifters underframe love it and a white seat that bikes been redone that's not original nothing personal it's just bugging me personally cuz I'm good stuff and I don't remember that color when I was riding bike you probably won't even alive sorry I'm 63 we didn't have white seats after the Mandela effect I just have to go along with the ride we didn't have white handlebars either nope never seeing them even in races on TV so something's up I'm just saying something is up nothing to do with you I'm going to restore a varsity opps mean put new tires on it & seat. 27in those lime green ones mint condition but I suppose you find a thousand things wrong lol thank you
Hi yes its the original color! if you look at the old peugeot catalogues around that era they all had wild paint jobs, pretty cool i love them! cheers!
