    Dynas are my favorite single coil pups
    Filtertrons are my favorite humbucking pups.
    As simple as that.

      I agree. The only problem s that they are totally different sizes and fitiings, so production wise its expensive to do. I don't think you can retro fit a Dynasonic into a Filtertron sized hols.

      Dynasonics are the original Gretsch Single coil pickups from the 50's. Chet Atkins decided he wanted a fatter louder pickup so they developed the Filtertron humbucker for him. Very similar to the Les Paul which started with P90's and then had the Seth Lover PAF's added.

      Which DeArmond? The Hi- Low I think is a Filertron size? So the DeArmond will be smaller.

      @@damonthegnomeoftonechivers ok. So that's a no. (And yes, the hi-lotron replaced a filtertron - it was a straight swap) I can't really grumble about the hi-lotron though. It's pretty fantastic.

    I have a set of T- armonds from TV Jones (dynasonic copies). Thinking about keeping the bridge and putting a Filtertron in the neck. The neck T-armond lacks just a bit of body that would allow the guitar to go a bit more into jazzy territories.

    • @damonthegnomeoftonechivers
      @damonthegnomeoftonechivers  3 года назад

      Hi Sylvia’s.....the construction and that dynasonic does give a lot of bottom end, but a Filtertron would definitely give you a more broad sound. Ideal for jazz dude

    • @greham
      @greham 3 года назад

      @@damonthegnomeoftonechivers Thanks mate. I'll proceed with that idea. People at TV jones at the time mentioned that a P90 bridge and Filtertron neck was a really neat combination in solid bodies. But with my Gretsch center block, the T- armond bridge just sounds too good.

    Great video Damon! I just purchased a custom penguin with dynasonics and can't wait for it to arrive this weekend! This video helped me to rest assured that it won't be a tonal duplicate of my Broadkaster Jr.
    Out of curiosity, which of the two do you prefer, the Jet or Broadkaster Jr? And I guess the age old comparison questions... Full'tron or PAF? Dynasonic or P90?

    • @damonthegnomeoftonechivers
      @damonthegnomeoftonechivers  3 года назад +1

      Totally mate. Just different! I tend to use the Jet for more classic rock/Americana types of projects, but the Filtertrons I use where I need any kind of clean, even pop and funk. But they are both hugely versatile. Thanks for watching.

    • @jt3483
      @jt3483 Год назад

      @@jamesgretsch4894 I actually ended up returning it to the shop. Didn't like the way the bridge sounded with gain. The Bigsby arm also had very little clearance over the pickguard. So little in fact, that it was hard to grip it fully and if you did, you couldn't really bend towards the body without banging your hand on the pickguard.
      I did think it looked pretty sweet though and the neck pickup sounded great.
