Gretsch Filtertrons vs Dynasonics - Adrian Whyte

- Gretsch Filtertrons are the classic sound, but they aren’t the only sound. Dynasonics were the original Gretsch sound after all! Which do you prefer? My Tv Jones or Gretsch / De Armond Dynasoncis? I give you a run down of my thoughts then give you 10 minutes of uninterrupted playing, with a good few minutes on each before adding some slap back so you can let your ears sink in!

Great playing! I’ve always thought Gretsch nailed what they set out to do which was to take the sound of the dynasonic and make a hum cancelling version of it. The sound is remarkably very close. Where as if you compare a Gibson single coil p90 with their paf humbuckers they sound nothing alike.
I would argue that the p90 and the humbucker sound almost EXACTLY alike... at full volume. Where a p90 shines is when you roll the volume down halfway - tons of sparkle and spank, whereas a humbucker gets buried in mud.
Absolutely brilliant
Fantastic demo! most don’t have the chops to demonstrate this many styles.
That’s a big compliment, thank you!!
I recently pickup up a 6120t with dynasonics. THey really sound amazing but it's not joke how sensitive they are! You can hear a papercut on your finger with these!
That made me laugh, good call! Thanks man!!
I put a surprisingly good clone in the bridge of the archtop kit I made (and a Ray Butts Ful-fidelity Filtertron in the neck, best of both worlds), but am considering getting a real one from Guild to try and cut down some of the interference. I LOVE that spectacular clarity and articulation.
Finally some honest and actually working analogies/metaphores for sound and tone. Good comparasion 👍
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed! Be sure to check out more of my channel!
Damn, that’s some slinky and slick playing Adrian.
I’m thinking of putting some TV Jones Starwood’s in a Tele build this year. Thanks for the comparison!
No worries, let me know how that turns out!!
I can’t .... just can’t choose one over the other .... love it all !!! And man those open string banjo rolls ... phew nice work Adrian !!!
Haha well, I guess you don’t have to, but you need both! Have you got a set of dynas in any of yours? Ehh they were ok, ironically rusty because I’ve been playing heaps of actual banjo… how does that work? 😂
@@AdrianWhyte .... no dynos in my collection..... as yet ?
Adrian, you've verbally summed up and then demonstrated the differences between the two perfectly! There's certainly no mistaking one for the other; while each has a great sound, I prefer the Dynasonics for that hard-to-tame quality. ... I wouldn't be averse, though, to adding a Flitertron-equipped model somewhere down the line.
Thank you!! Yes, hard to tame quality is a great way to put it too, I love the filtertrons and they are much easier to get a sweet sound, but I’m drawn to the dynas more often than not! If you can I would recommend it though because it is nice to have the Filtertrons too! Great to hear from you!
excellent playing mate 👌
Thank you so much!
Thanks bud, this very helpful.
No worries, are you choosing between them? Good luck :)
@@AdrianWhyte in a sense… yes. I just ordered a Gretsch rat rod, so I’m trying to hear the difference to help me chose some high end replacement pick ups. I’m still researching, but probably leaning towards TV Jones.
They both sound great in the right hands. I’ve been playing heavier lately so I lean towards my filtertron guitars. More gain less noise.
Definitely a more smooth and gain friendly pickup! Thanks Chris!
The dynosonics sound a bit more shrill' kinda like biting down on a pickled hogs knuckle compared to the filtertrons' like biting down on a marshmallow' more mellow. I prefer the shrill sound of the Dynasonic's
I love this comment, I thought you were knocking the dynas (each to their own) but then you come back to say that’s what you’re after! Good call!! 😂👏
I have a Gretsch 6120 Eddie Cochran with a Dyno in the bridge and a Fralin P90 in the neck. This guitar covers a lot of ground. I'm setting up a 5427 T with a Gretsch HS Filtertron in the bridge and a TV Jones Classic in the neck. Great pickups all around. Thanks for a great demo.
That sounds like some fun guitars, how’s the p90 in a Gretsch? I reckon it would be pretty good!
Instant blues when you switch to the neck and in the middle it blends great with the bridge DynaSonic.@@AdrianWhyte
Hey, thanks for that! I just got a Guild x-175 Manhattan with Dynasonics and was thinking about switching them out for Lollar 50s P90s down the road once I get tired of 'em - that definition can wear on ya after a bit. Makes sense to switch the neck first and try the mix like you. Hilarious I didn't think of that, but I am an 'all or nothin' kinda guy :-)
One of the few videos on a subject important to us Gretschies 😊. Well done my man.
I have dynas in a Duane Eddy sig (in white pearl 😁). Got it because I thought I’d prefer them, then quickly realized I’m probably more of a filtertron guy. Whoops. I’ve learned to like them though. I did replace the bridge PU with a vintage dynasonic, one of the wacky ones with the trapezoidal case like from an old Martin acoustic. The stock bridge PU from Gretsch wasnt hot enough to keep up with the neck. I even had to have a tech fabricate a shim to raise the body of the vintage pickup to balance the output and get the sound right. Anybody else had this issue with the Gretsch version of dynas? I write this as if anyone cares…
I will also say that the bridge dyna takes gain surprisingly well. I rarely use it on its own clean though.
Hey man, sorry for the delayed response - I reckon that’s similar to how I got into the dynas. I didn’t love them at first but over time I came to like the notchy, complex tone - they can really sing sometimes but they can also get dizzy with the wrong amp. Not the easiest pickup to work with but you can get some insane tones out of them!
You’re also right about the output and the need to shim them. If I had have thought to shim my Orange 6120, I may have kept it but as it happens I sold it. I still use my duo jet a lot through, but interestingly I’m finding myself playing on a tele a lot more, but I do rotate for videos.
I also found a bit of dirt really livens up the dynasonics! Anyway thanks for contributing!
@@AdrianWhyte thanks for taking the time to reply, love your videos and it’s neat getting a chance to communicate with you!
Cheers from the States.
Excellent vid. I like tones from them both. Prefer Filter'Trons for my need/use, but can see a need/purpose for both.
Yep, I like that assessment!! Good call!
I really like both but i prefer the filtertrons.
I need that bit more Compression and would be afraid to gig with Single coils with a Lot of distortion.
Both are awesome tho
What bridge do you have on the green gretsch?
Hey mate, yeah I understand that - I had my orange guitars pickups wax dipped and it really helped, they can still be a handful although I never used tons of gain. If you check out the vaudevillains Hector hell live you’ll hear me playing a gig many years ago that was probably the gainiest example so to speak!
Great Video Adrian!! Do you use Flatwound strings? I don't hear that annoying glassy piercing high end.
Hey Frank, no flat wounds, perhaps I have smooth hands? 😂😂😂
@@AdrianWhyte 👍🏻😊
I’ve always been a. Dyanasonic fan. I play more twang. I have a g5129/g5128. They are perfect for surf/spaghetti western. Hilotrons were the spaghetti western pickup though. 1966 Tennessean from what I’ve read.
That’s really cool! I always wondered about that stuff, I believe Jazzmasters were pretty popular in that era too! But you can’t bear a Gretsch for that twang. I think the hilotrons are underrated!
I like what you said that filtertrons make you sound good, while dynasonics will catch you out. I think it might even just be a single coil vs humbucker thing? I have a couple of humbucker equipped guitars that somehow even make my mistakes sound good. Like, I can play drunk as a skunk and still get a cool sound. But my Tele? No, it demands precision. I hated that at first, but it's helped make me a better player.
Lol your tele is like a disgruntled partner not appreciating your drunken state lol!!
@@AdrianWhyte haha I can't say I blame it!
I have a penguin which came with dynasonics. I ended up swapping out the bridge for a Classic Plus FilterTron. Love having both on guitar. They're a great combo, middle can be a little bright but can role that back.
Nice guitar you’ve got! Do you make videos? If so I’ll have to check it out!!
@@AdrianWhyte Thanks! I certainly love it. I don't have any videos up, although maybe I should make one...
Another nice presentation and I wonder this: back in the early rock n roll years, did companies who made electric guitars, even Gretsch, fully intend to wind pickups with different responses? Did the factory simply wind ‘em up and mount them… In all of my years of playing these early ( they weren’t vintage then …haha) and later instruments, there were never any considerations for pickup response. In other words, it had what it had. The last 25 years of so, this has become a more significant discussion
Great question, I kinda wonder the same thing- and did they wind them the same or have variations depending on the day or material or how drunk the pickup maker was then night before? Etc that’s something that could be explored more!
That is exactly my thought and what I was wondering…. Thanks for picking up on that. Problem being ….not as many vintage instruments would be subject to the necessary measurements to make a determination
COOL
Had a 6120 Setzer and a Jet with real De'Armond's, loved them both. Used the Setzer on most stuff and the Jet on songs I knew were recorded with Fenders and any thing I wanted feedback on. Unfortunately both were stolen. Both pickups are great and with the right pedals or amps can play any thing.
That bloody sucks mate. I fully agree with your experienced assessment!
Great video and comparison. I only have Gretsch fiddles with filtertrons at this point, need one (ok want one 🤠) with the dynasonics at some point as I like both.
Looking forward to the tab for the As Diabatz tune, but no pressure Adrian 😂😂😂
Lol I missed this comment! Hope you’re having fun with the As Diabatz!
@@AdrianWhyte - I ended up being out of town with no guitar for a few days after you posted the lesson! Looking forward to starting learning it this weekend! Thanks again and have a good one my friend
Have both also love both
I almost think tv Jones t armonds are kind of a nice compromise between the two, have you ever had those?
@@AdrianWhyte have them now. Used to have the same Chet Atkins model gretsch that you have with Seymour Duncan custom shop dynasonics. Really liked that guitar and those pickups were amazing. But wasn’t my favorite neck. Sexy guitars though!
By the way I would like some lessons!
You're probably right about that. Waiting is not my forte 🤣😂. I would go for a hot red one. how do you like the hot red series.
Really great comparision, thanks so much for this!
Now what is the song you’re playing starting from 9:27??
It is doing my head in!
Mr sandman!!
Of course, that’s the one!
Neato hot licks. I googled TV Jones Pick ups vs Dynosonic Pick ups.
Thanks Deano, be sure to checkout my other videos - there’s a lot of content covering these ideas!
I've just bought a 6120 Brian seltzer 2005 model.
Du you know wich pickups are in that?
I have A 50's Duojet with Dynasonics and it's the best sound I have ever heard! The next is my 60's Gretsch with Filtertrons!
Nice, an original? I mean, they all sound great but boy those old ones rock!!
Adrian, when using the BS301 did you plug that into the Moer too before you went into the computer?
Hey mate, yes I had the mooer last in the chain before the computer, hope that helps :)
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR..THINKING OF PUTTING TV J D"ARMOND IN ONE OF MY ELECTROMATICS
Heya. What amp do you use? I am a loyal Patreon subscriber but ask here to spread the word. Thanks dude!
Hey man! I never saw this comment, apologies! I’m pretty sure I was using the spark amp on a clean fender style setting but I’ll have to check, I usually put it in the description! Cheers for the support by the way!!
Dynasonics all the way. However, it's crazy to see that they sound better in literally ANY other type of guitar than in Gretschs. They deserve something with more weigh and thickness. My friend as a pair in a SG and it's glorious.
I’ve suspected this for a while actually, they definitely sound a little nicer in the duo jet than they did in the 6120
Great playing. All those Gretsch tones are just mesmerising.
My Harrison Tribute Duo-Jet has Dynasonics and they are wizard. Whatever they are doing, it sounds so good to me. Do I have to work harder with them? I don't rightly know. If I do, I don't mind it at all. It's even a better pickup than a P-90 IMO, and I love P-90s. Don't mind the 60 cycle hum. It's part of the charm for me.
This is not to say that Filtertrons are not also super. They are, with a different colour.
Cheers.
Thanks man, nice to hear your experience! I too prefer Dynasonics over p90s, they are quite a different profile tonally. I love filtertrons and dynasonics but still tend to come back to my duo jet actually (with dynasonics). So yes, the Harrison must sound great!!
@@AdrianWhyte It do, mate. Great minds think alike.
What do you think about the new TV Jones ZOOM’Trons? Are they a good option for a noiseless humbucking version of Dynasonics? A wolf in sheep’s clothing?
I’m sure they are great, but I haven’t tried them- I would love to! Apologies for the delayed response. Have a good day!!
I'm biased since I swapped out the filtertrons for dynas on my Gretsch. I agree my mistakes are more obvious but it's worth it. I'm always chasing the 1950s sound and to me it was worth. Both are great, in an ideal world have two guitars one with each!
They are very 50s in my opinion and appeared on a lot more recordings than they get credit for!
Are those real Dynasonics from to 50s or just the single coils that look like them which they put out today?
I have the Duane Eddy 97 Gretsch 6120 DEO, issue with Dynasonics. They have this twang/growl sound for want of a better term, but they sound great. It sound reminisent of a Gibson 355. Like both pick-ups really. What are the gold 'housings' on your Dynasonics made of? Plastic or metal?
Hey man, the gold housings are metal, I’m assuming gold plated nickel or something like that! Thanks for the contribution! 🤓
@@AdrianWhyte Thanks. Mine seem to be plastic.
I’m tryin to sort, now, what it would take to get something DeArmond-style into mi customised Electromatic Jet (Airline Silver with custom electronics, custome abalone knobs, and a custom 3-ply black-and silver psychedelic paisley scratch-plate.
That sounds like one cool guitar!! Any luck with that project? It can be tricky with holes and mounting points!!
@@AdrianWhyte Thank you! I’ve put a lot of time and $ into her. As far as pickup progress goes: Nah, not yet; I’ve been busy rounding out mi pedal collection. It’s lookin like mi best bet might be the TVJones T-Armonds; but then, I’ve no yet checked out all mi fave pickup craftsmen. I’m in no hurry, though; I’ll just look about whilst I save up a couple dollars.
Can you tell me which Tv Jones model these are?
Hi! Yes they are tv Jones classics, fitted around 2003 I believe, so a very early iteration
The thing I love about Dynas is that two of my Gretsch guitar heroes played Jets with Dynas: George Harrison, and Billy friggin Zoom!
Legends!!!
On Georges Most famous Gretsch guitar : The Gretsch Country Gentleman tereis filtertron Humbuckers. So Filtertrons is What George Harrison is famous for. Although he never ever wanted a Gretsch. His favourite guitar from 1957 untill he died was the Fender Stratocaster. He tried to buy one in 1957 but there was not one Fender Stratocaster in the whole of Liverpool so he ended up with a Stratocaster copy called Futurama. In Hamburg later he was to buy a a Stratocaster. He made the deal with the seller but the guitarist from Rory Storm and the Hurricanes got there earlier and bought the guitar before George got there. That scarred George for life. George had been painting Stratocasters for hours in School instead of listening to the teacher. In December 1964 he finally got his belowed Fender Stratocaster and from Help to Let it be about 90 % of all electric guitar work is Done on a Fender Stratocaster by George Harrison. In his solo career he only recorded with Fender Stratocasters. Even his guitar parts in Travelling Willburys ( Where They pose with Gretsches) are recorded with a Fender Stratocaster.
There are even quoted by George
” If I’d had it my way the Stratocaster would have been my first guitar”
And another kind of funny before the Beatles brooke through” We are stick with these Gretsches if only we’d had Stratocasters We could have been real good”
George owned 100 Fender Stratocasters When he died.
The guitar George called ” the worst guitar I have ever played ” was the Fender Rosewood Telecaster. The least used Beatle guitar of them all. Only famous for the rooftop top concert. George gave away the guitar the same year he got it in 1969 to Delany Bramlet. George was never again in his career seen with a Telecaster.
2 years after Georges death Olivia Harrison buys the guitar George Harrison called ” The worst guitar I have ever played” The Fender Roosewood Telecaster from Delany Bramlet and lets Fender produce the guitar. George would have been spinning in his grave to See the guitar he thought was the worst guitar he had ever played being sold by Fender. But Olivia has Done a lot of things George would have not had approved of after his death. He promised to pay a pension to his sister for 2000 USD for the rest of her life. The month after Georges death Olivia stops the pension payments to Georges sister. George was very private with his guitars and would never had allowed Fender produce a guitar in his name, let alone the one he thought was the worst guitar he had ever played, the Fender Rosewood Telecaster. He was approached 1974 for a Fender Stratocaster George Harrison edition 14 years before They started with artist editions but turned Fender down. They asked him every year after that but he always turned Fender down even though The Stratocaster was his favourite guitar. Now They sell his favourite guitar The Fender Stratocaster Rocky for between 25 000 to 32 000 USD. Something George never would have allowed Either. A run of 100 limited Fender Rocky Stratocasters became 215 guitars sold instead of 100. Then after the rich buyers ended, They made a Budget Fender Rocky Stratocaster limited to 1000 editions. Fender will probably be selling 7090 or 8000 of these instead of 1000. After that They Will issue another Fender Rocky Stratocaster with some kind of change from the previous 2 guitars and after that They Will make yet another Fender Rocky Stratocaster with something different in it and so it Will go on forever. Thats How Fender Works these days. Easy money all the time. The Stratocasters made by Leo Fender up untill 1965 are a lot better than the Fender Stratocasters They make in 2022. But Leo was interested in quality. The New owners only in money.
OK if you put one of each in one guitar ... where would you put the Dynasonic and Filtertron ?
Neck or bridge ?
I’m guessing ...?
Neck - Dynosonic
Bridge - Filtertron
I’m not sure they balance well man, I’ve see this discussion on the Gretsch players group on Facebook and the few that have done it didn’t think it worked well.. but for me, I love the boldness of the neck dynas and the smoothness of the bridge humbucker
Hey Adrian , since this video , we didnt see often the 6120 , where she is ? In vacation ?
Sad to say.. I sold it. I can’t explain why. I just looked at it one day and thought it was time to let it go. Actually, I thought I was going to have a tax debit.. turned out I was wrong lol but anyway, one day I’ll get a white falcon with the same pickups :)
@@AdrianWhyte ah OK, funny , i mess this famous falcon last month , the one with nitro finish and bigsby, the best ! One Guy was more fast than me ! Hope you ll find one soon
The 6136 t lds
FilterTrons sound great, but I prefer the rounder tone of the Dynasonics.
Hey Adrian .. what is the 6120 strung with?
Hey man, Im pretty sure they would have been 10-46 D’Addarios :)
@@AdrianWhyte cheers ...sweet sound
Dynasonics =Twang...Cheers Frank The Memphis Suns..Another favourite video..keep'em coming boy...Keep them coming!
Glad you enjoyed Frank!! Thanks man, I will keep the videos coming :)
What brand of hat are you wearing?
Hey Colin, apologies for the delay! Brixton make some great hats, if I remember correctly this one was a Brixton. I’ve also got some Kangol hats and a cheaper alternative was a rooster wear brand but I was unable to locate the Same style when I had a look! Hope all this helps!
I'm a Filtertron guy... But love those Dyna's!! 🎸
Cheers man!!
I think you sounds better through the Dynasonics. It's buttah (butter). A little tape delay is my favorite sound ever. It's very traditionally though. I love the Filtertrons as well. I have a less expensive Gretsch now with the blacks in it and they seem great to me too but I'm sure I get myself disgusted with these with very little effort. Lol. Pickup envy! Lol
Your tastes sound similar to mine! Yeah I think I’m just used to the dynasonics, I like that little bit of breadth i allude to! I actually think the blacktops have a great vibe unto themselves, it’s almost this rich harmonic and slightly trashy / sensitive / chimey vibe, maybe a video closely comparing them would be good!
Absolutely love the Dynasonics sound here! Longtime Filtertron player but I just (a few days ago) got a Red Sparkle Duo Jet with TV Jones T Armonds, but struggling a little to balance volumes and get the best tones. Essentially what ever I do, one pick up is louder than the other, and neck is not twangy enough. If I put a spacer under neck pickup it's louder than bridge and neck is too "wooly" with not enough twang, if I remove spacer it's quieter, and still a bit too wooly for me. Lots of advice online, but conflicting about how to get best sound. Your Dynasonics above have EXACTLY the sound I'm after, I know this is a year old video so hope you are still monitoring comments!?
So just asking for your Dynasonic sound, how are you set up? Firstly what is string to pole piece distance for bridge and neck, and also do you raise poles, or pickup body to increase "twang", or lower them, and so you adjust pole pieces to string radius? I know this can be trial and error but having a head start from someone who already has the sound I want has to be a good idea!
Simple answers are fine eg: Neck 3/16. Bridge 5/32. No spacer. Raise poles for twang - that's fine as an answer!
Oh, not just the sound but great playing by the way!!!😀
Hey man, always here on the comments! I don’t have that guitar anymore but I can tell you the pole pieces were pretty low and the pickups weren’t shimmed. These are standard dynas which are a little different to the t-Armonds, the tv jones ones are a little more telecaster like, easier to pull a sweet tone from but less acoustic sounding, great pickups but different! For now though try lowering your pole pieces a little on the neck pickup, it should at least prevent it from being wooly- couldn’t tell you measurements, never taken a measurement on any of my guitars settings!
@@AdrianWhyte Many thanks for the reply. I never measured my pickup heights before, but never had this style p/up before and I got so many conflicting bits of advice, I thought I'd try and copy the settings of people who's sound I liked to see where it got me! I've got them sounding quite a bit better now - thanks again for your tips! I can see from the video that your neck p/up is sitting a little bit higher than mine - even though mine's got a spacer, just different body types and/or pickup covers I guess. Great work all round in this video !😀
I'm worried dynasonics are painfully bright is that the case?
Absolutely not! You really need to go play a guitar with them if you can get the chance!
Wanna dip your toes into some rockabilly riffing? Check this video out! ruclips.net/video/YJReErn5P_Y/видео.html
Both sound good, but I love the Dynasonic sound a little more.
Cheers, yeah they are a different beast aren’t they?
for me it's really hard to judge. I had to play both myself. unfortunately I can't get a Gretsch bar, and if so I can use an electronic art. I toy with the idea of just buying the pickups and building them in my Ibanez Artcore. All the best from Germany and thanks for the motivation you give me through your videos
No worries Dennis, appreciate your thoughts as always! I’ve seen a few people make the mod but never really be happy, if you can wait, get a Gretsch!
Both have there place, dynasonics have that 50s rock n roll sound from older records, filtertrons more modern and chimey, more ‘setzer’ thing about them
I like that, well put!
So, I really got the typical adjectives used to describe them, ie, the filtertrons were very bright and chimey and the dynasonics sharp and twangy. The fact that you're such an amazing player certainly helped to highlight it as well, no doubt. I've got my heart set on a pair of Hi'Lo-trons next. One question, do you think contemporary pickups have the same tones as the earlier ones? I had a 1970 Superchet that I'd swear sounded better than anything else I've ever played, it mighta been in my head.
Hey Chuck, apologies for the delay - oh man there are some great sounding later pickups, honestly - I think people get stuck in believing the first ones are the best, but yes I love the later Gretsch pickups for different reasons! Thanks for the lovely compliments and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Stick around here!
which do you think is better to play some psychobilly like nekromantix? Thanks!!
I think they are both great, but Peter Sandorff used filtertrons on the later albums he was on, in particular return of the loving dead and I love that sound!!
I’ve got a few Nekromantix lessons in case you haven’t seen them, haunted Cathouse and gargoyles over Copenhagen!
Thanks a lot!!!
I try to listen to an even amount of both with Gene and Eddie being the Dynasonics and then Malcolm Young and of course Brian Setzer with the Filtertrons. I quite like both. I lean more FT for versatility. Anything form the jazziest of jazz to the dirtiest of rock. I love it.
Good call, yeah the FTs are easier to work with!
more of a jazzy deal with the dynasonics
Agreed! Actually one of the best sounds I ever got was with flat wounds, if you search Adrian Whyte after you’ve gone you’ll hopefully find the one with the orange guitar, it sounds really cool
Question: where exactly are the brand now made? And where are the parts manufactured?
What exactly happened to the manufacturing process and the real world sound of the brand Afyrr the Fender acquisition?
I can make any pickup sound like crap! 😀
Lol I shouldn’t laugh, but that made me crack up good! 😂😂😂
Why is "psychobilly"?? Is that like "Barrett plays Setzer" (or "Stray Cat Yowling At the Gates of Dawn" if you will?) or something to that effect??...If so it sounfs intriguing.
It’s like anything, there’s quite a mix! But yeah it’s essentially rockabilly just dialled up a little or a lot. A great entry point would be long black shiny car by restless, my tutorial on that will give you some insights of course :)
Okay well first off, the orange guitar sounds like an old guitar, the other one doesn't. That's making a big difference. If you want the old 50s and early 60s sound go with the dynasonics, if you want more of the overdriven rockabilly or Malcolm Young stuff then filtertrons. Also..... This guy needs to stop practicing scales, random scale sequences are good way to immediately sound like a fifteen-year-old.
That’s fine man, can’t please everyone! In regards to the pickups, filtertrons were put on production guitars since 1959, so that’s a fair point as the dearmonds were around earlier in the rock and roll explosion
@@AdrianWhyte That's right, and I wasn't trying to take anything away from you're playing, you've clearly done a lot of work. Really like the stuff near the end of the video.
@@taggmanibanez cheers man, nah it probably got a bit noodly there- all fair! Your channel is great by the way, you play really nicely!
Why does every single Gretsch review on the internet need to be rockabilly? These guitars can do much more than that. 🤦♂️
Checkout @PhillipMcKnight he does some good Gretsch stuff in a rock vibe. Also if you watched more of the video I do Jazz and some swing stuff as well
It's just the guitar that suits that style really well. I feel you though. I did a lot of alt/indie rock using Gretsch guitars and even a DeArmond, and they never disappointed me.
