It always rubs me the wrong way if people will not even hear the other person out. They hear one story and boem made up there mind, out off there lifes you go. They never consider other explanations or the rest off the shared history, that is the biggest betrayal to me. How is your son, not worth 2 minutes off explanation.

Step Dad is a classic narcissist. He played everyone like cheap 🎻 and they let him. He is a permanent AC1. The family could have at least tried. Brother is the only one that I think has fully redeemed himself.

The reality is someone came to you with screenshots and said their partner has been cheating on them and new things about your partner that only someone close to them would know. It would be hard not to believe them. But the mother and the family cutting him off because he cheated. That's stupid. I wouldn't condone cheating. I would tell him how disappointed I was but I would never cut someone off because they cheated on their partner especially family. I don't know. I think that's weird. I can see asking for space and time but not cutting them off completely. It's overkill.

The family needs to be rated too. I have never known a family to completely turn their back on someone even if they were a cheater. But most people take “facts” on face value, and do not expect a master manipulator to be faking phone conversations. If they are genuine in their regret, and can demonstrate they have leaned from being manipulated, I think there’s an argument for a second chance.

bullies in HS would call me and my dad like the asshole he was used to make me take the phone calls. Back then, computer use of my name wasn't an issue, but I was still sitting there wondering what they were up to and how to get them to hang up and leave me alone.
I think he should have a lot of grace on the girlfriend. She too was a victim. She didn’t have a family and they’d become that. She may have been cheated on. We criticize women when they overlook signs of cheating and now she is being judged for believing them. The evidence was pretty complex. She deserves a lot of grace.

I heard of a somewhat similar story, but it was the gf that was asking for advice, of course almost everyone jumped to the conclusion that the bf was cheating, good thing that gf didn't just believe the story and she talked to her bf, well fiancé, the fiancé denied it all, I don't remember all the details, but I think it turns out that the girl contacting OP was lying. Well anyway, it's infuriating when people don't even want to listen to explanations and just assume what what they were told were all true. I hope OP and the ex-fiancé don't get back together, but who knows. OP's brother and uncle are the hero's here.

I find that it is the narcissists that want their life to go a certain way, and know that you are not going to easily play along with what they want, that often do things like this.

I think the gf should have dug a little deeper before accepting it all, but I'm sure the phone call from a woman made it all seem pretty iron clad. Still, she should have at least given the bf a chance to explain. The mother had no excuse to cut her son off even if she did believe he cheated. And thank goodness the brother has a conscience. It is important to remember the step dad was covert and pulling everyone's strings. Not an excuse to the family, but an explanation to how people believed this at all. I feel horrible that the stepfather stole so much from everyone in that situation. No one has been left unscathed by that man and I hope they can all find their happiness. Forgiveness is truly a personal decision and journey and if he's going that route I pray life gives him all the good things in abundance.
