Honestly - I know the wife is insecure but the sister is SA'ing the husband and it doesn't seem like anyone cares.
I was thinking the same thing. I’d be self conscious but my first instinct would be to ask my partner if they’re okay and how they feel about it while also saying it makes me feel like shit too however I shouldn’t be the focal point

This story just warmed my heart. Mary is an aweful person, the parents are aweful for letting it happen for so long. But can we give a moment to appreciate how well OP handled this situation and how his wife came into her own and basically told her family to eff off.

Not that I want OP to live on Reddit but man, a part of me wants to know what the fallout was regarding the birth of the child with wife's family. Hope springs eternal that them finding out about the pregnancy/birth is a wake up call.
I can't wait for the update 10 years down the line or whatever when Mary gets fat and gets wrinkles and OP's wife still looks awesome.

wow amazing story. I am so happy she was able to gain some confidence and start to set boundaries. Therapy has really worked for her and has improved her whole life! The sister-in-law was bat-shit crazy but the way he handled it was brilliant.
I feel so bad for OP. He was sexually assaulted after being continuously sexually harassed but instead of being comforted he has to comfort. I get the wife’s perspective and she’s incredibly insecure but OP should be centered here in my opinion

Really hope OP and wife have their happily ever after with new baby, but suspect Mary going off the rails once she learns that sis has not only great husband, but now baby. Would not be surprised in the least if we see update over spring about this.
Weird. This story is totally making me rethink my own family's dynamic. I always thought I was the Golden Child, but my story is so extremely similar to OP's wife's - right down to the careers and self-esteem issues - that I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong. My parents did praise my successes, but my model sister is the one who was allowed to just do whatever she wanted and whose entitled and toxic behavior is enabled by the family. Maybe I've had it backwards. Food for thought, I guess.
This is exactly how my mom acts with my brother. He can do no wrong 🙄 btw, he’s almost 40! 😂 it’s actually scary, I’m no contact with both of them.
