Oh wow, whilst the music is the same as 'My Way,' the lyrics are completely different. This original version tells quite a different story, such a sad story.
Wow! Didn't know the original 'My Way' is French! All I know is Frank Sinatra made this globally popular song not until I watched the French singer sang this in closing ceremony of Paris Olympics2024
In the 60s, there was no copyright on songs. This song is about a loveless marriage. I knew the Beatles songs in French only. I was very surprised to find that they were English. 😂 I think Elvis wasn't translated, but almost everything else was.
I don't think it's true to say there was no copyright in the 60s, but people were certainly more relaxed about it then, apart from Paul Simon 'stealing' Martin Carthy's arrangement* of Scarborough Fair which Carthy bore a grudge about for years! :D Yet Bob Dylan reinterpreted the song, too, as North Country Girl, later covered by Roy Harper. The Everly Brothers' version of the Pierre Delanoë-Gilbert Bécaud song Je t'appartiens is a totally different song lyrically as Let it Be Me, as is Elvis's It's Now Or Never and Stone's version of The Beatles' Norwegian Wood, Seul, which I love. Bowie's lyrics or Paul Anka's famous version all coexist happily with Comme d'habitude as they don't try to translate the original. Bowie seems happier singing in German than in French, as do the Beatles. *Carthy finally forgave Simon when he found his publisher had copyrighted his own arrangement of Scarborough Fair, so he had also been receiving royalties from S&G's version for years!
@senutylloj interesting. The lyrics that I knew back then were never translation. They kept the music. All in all, it was fun to discover they weren't French. Mind you, I prefer the lyrics of My Way to Comme d'habitude, which is too repetitive (which is the point of the song, but I find it grating).
@@madelainepetrin1430 Merci! Claude François is said to have liked it because the song reflected his breakup with France Gall at the time. I quite like Jacques Revaux's lyrics for the song but Bowie's 'first draft' before Paul Anka got his hands on the song is embarrassingly bad! :D

The French lyrics roughly translated into English. Alright, here's a rough translation of "Comme d'habitude." Please note that translations, especially of song lyrics, can vary depending on the interpreter and might not capture the full nuance, poetry, or rhythm of the original. ``` I wake up as usual And get out of bed as usual I shave myself, I wash myself And I get dressed as usual All alone, I go out But I put on a brave face I light up a cigarette As usual I go and meet you As usual I talk to you As usual And you laugh without seeing me As usual You leave without me As usual And I wait for you As usual I'll go back to bed alone As usual You'll come back when you want to At the time you always do I'll tell you "You look tired" And you'll avoid my gaze With a distracted air And then you'll avoid my hands With excuses that sound fake to me To avoid the evening's fight I'll become a clown again I'll laugh like a fool As usual You'll slowly undress As usual You'll go to bed as usual Without seeing me As usual You'll pretend to be asleep As usual I'll turn my back on you As usual You'll turn your back on me As usual And I'll touch you As usual And you'll shudder As usual Tomorrow, I'll wake up As usual And we'll start all over again As usual ``` Remember, this is a basic, straightforward translation, and the beauty of the original lyrics in their native language is always challenging to fully capture in another language.
Another "rough translation" Thankyou. Here are the full lyrics of "Comme d'habitude" translated into English: ### As Usual [Verse 1] I get up and I bump you You don't wake up, as usual On you, I pull the blanket I'm afraid you'll be cold, as usual My hand caresses your hair Almost despite myself, as usual But you, you turn your back on me As usual [Chorus] And then I go out of the room All alone, I drink my coffee I'm late, as usual Without a sound, I leave the house Everything is gray outside As usual [Verse 2] I’m cold, I lift my collar As usual As usual, all day long I will play pretending As usual, I will smile As usual, I will even laugh As usual, finally I will live As usual [Verse 3] And then the day will pass Me, I'll return As usual You, you will be out Not yet returned As usual All alone, I will go to bed In this big, cold bed As usual My tears, I will hide them As usual [Chorus] As usual, even at night I will play pretending As usual, you will come back As usual, I will wait for you As usual, you will smile at me As usual [Outro] As usual, you will undress As usual, you will lie down As usual, we will kiss As usual
On 10 March 1978, Claude François returned to his Paris apartment at 46 Boulevard Exelmans. He was due to appear on Les Rendez-vous du Dimanche with Michel Drucker. While preparing for a bath, François attempted to straighten a lightbulb in his bathroom lamp, causing him to receive a severe electric shock. He died in his apartment.

Just before someone tells us that this song remind them of My Way by Frank Sinatra, I would like to tell you something... It was first written in French. lol
Je me lève Et je te bouscule Tu ne te réveilles pas Comme d'habitude Sur toi je remonte le drap J'ai peur que tu aies froid Comme d'habitude Ma main caresse tes cheveux Presque malgré moi Comme d'habitude Mais toi tu me tournes le dos Comme d'habitude Et puis je m'habille très vite Je sors de la chambre Comme d'habitude Tout seul je bois mon café Je suis en retard Comme d'habitude Sans bruit je quitte la maison Tout est gris dehors Comme d'habitude J'ai froid, je relève mon col Comme d'habitude Comme d'habitude Toute la journée Je vais jouer à faire semblant Comme d'habitude Je vais sourire Comme d'habitude Je vais même rire Comme d'habitude Enfin je vais vivre Comme d'habitude Et puis le jour s'en ira Moi je reviendrai Comme d'habitude Toi tu seras sortie Et pas encore rentrée Comme d'habitude Tout seul j'irai me coucher Dans ce grand lit froid Comme d'habitude Mes larmes je les cacherai Comme d'habitude Mais comme d'habitude Même la nuit Je vais jouer à faire semblant Comme d'habitude Tu rentreras Oui, comme d'habitude Je t'attendrai Comme d'habitude Tu me souriras Oui, comme d'habitude Comme d'habitude Tu te déshabilleras Comme d'habitude Tu te coucheras Comme d'habitude On s'embrassera Comme d'habitude Comme d'habitude On fera semblant Oui, comme d'habitude On fera l'amour Oui, comme d'habitude On fera semblant Comme d'habitude Comme d'habitude On fera semblant Oui, comme d'habitude...
@yasininn76 yes different lyrics obviously French and English but the melody is the same. A French song of 1967 followed by Sinatra's cover version in 1969.
This song was composed by Jacques Revaux, in colaboration with lyricists, Claud François (performing) and Gilles Thibaut (I think, please don't take this as fact, check for yourself ❤)
I have only seen Claude Francois before doing his cheesy mid-70s dance routines. I had no idea he could be so powerful. This song is also a million miles away from the self-congratulatory Sinatra lyrics. This is a song of pain and failure - it's much more compelling.
So this is My Way before it became My Way! Great to hear the original song!

Oh wow, whilst the music is the same as 'My Way,' the lyrics are completely different. This original version tells quite a different story, such a sad story.

This is best. ❤
TIMELESS 🇫🇷
Both lyrics crush mu heart. Very good songs. Somebody said something about Bowie... I will check that.

Je me lève
Et je te bouscule
Tu ne te réveilles pas
Comme d'habitude
Sur toi je remonte le drap
J'ai peur que tu aies froid
Comme d'habitude
Ma main caresse tes cheveux
Presque malgré moi

Mais toi tu me tournes le dos

Et puis je m'habille très vite
Je sors de la chambre
Comme d'habitude

Je suis en retard

Sans bruit je quitte la maison
Tout est gris dehors
Comme d'habitude
J'ai froid je relève mon col
Comme d'habitude
Comme d'habitude
Toute la journée
Je vais jouer à faire semblant
Comme d'habitude
Je vais sourire
Oui comme d'habitude
Je vais même rire
Comme d'habitude
Enfin je vais vivre
Comme d'habitude
Et puis le jour s'en ira
Moi je reviendrai
Comme d'habitude
Et toi tu seras sortie
Et pas encore rentrée

Dans ce grand lit froid
Comme d'habitude
Mes larmes je les cacherai
Comme d'habitude
Comme d'habitude

Je vais jouer à faire semblant

Je t'attendrai
Comme d'habitude
Tu me souriras
Comme d'habitude
Comme d'habitude
Tu te déshabillera
Comme d'habitude
Tu te coucheras
Comme d'habitude
On s'embrassera
Comme d'habitude
The most beautiful version is the one by Elvis!
There's no doubt that Claude François was honoured to have the King sing his song!
Honestly, Sid Vicious did this with a lot more energy and enthusiasm than any of the more ostensibly legitimate performers
Lyrics 😉🙃
I get up,
And I jostle you
You don't wake up
Like all the days
On you,
I roll up the sheet
I'm afraid you're freeze
Like all the days
My hand
Caresses your hair
Almost spite of me
Like all the days
But you,
You turn your back
Like all the days
And then,
I get dressed fast
I leave the bedroom
Like all the days
Alone,
I drink my chocolate
I am still late
Like all the days
No noise,
I leave the house
All outside is gray
Like all the days
I'm cold,
I lift my collar
Like all the days
Like all the days,
All of the day
I'm going to play
To let's pretend
Like all the days,
I will be smiling
Yes, Like all the days,
I'll even laughing
Like all the days,
Yet I will live
Yes, Like all the days
And so,
The day go away
Me, I will come back
Like all the days
You,
You'll be not there
Not still back yet
Like all the days
Alone,
I'll be asleep
In this big cold bed
Like all the days
My tears,
I'll hiding them
Like all the days
Like all the days,
Even at night
I'm going to play
To let's pretend
Like all the days,
You'll come home
Yes, like all the days,
I'll wait you back
Like all the days,
You'll send me smile
Yes like all the days
Oh, like all the days,
You'll undress alone
Yes, like all the days,
You will go to sleep
Yes, like all the days,
We'll peck a smack
Like all the days
Oh, like all the days,
We will let's pretend
Yes, like all the days,
We will make love
Yes, like all the days,
We will let's pretend
Oh! Like all the days ...

You don't wake up

The French lyrics roughly translated into English.
Alright, here's a rough translation of "Comme d'habitude." Please note that translations, especially of song lyrics, can vary depending on the interpreter and might not capture the full nuance, poetry, or rhythm of the original.
```
I wake up as usual
And get out of bed as usual
I shave myself, I wash myself
And I get dressed as usual
All alone, I go out
But I put on a brave face
I light up a cigarette
As usual
I go and meet you
As usual
I talk to you
As usual
And you laugh without seeing me
As usual
You leave without me
As usual
And I wait for you
As usual
I'll go back to bed alone
As usual
You'll come back when you want to
At the time you always do
I'll tell you "You look tired"
And you'll avoid my gaze
With a distracted air
And then you'll avoid my hands
With excuses that sound fake to me
To avoid the evening's fight
I'll become a clown again
I'll laugh like a fool
As usual
You'll slowly undress
As usual
You'll go to bed as usual
Without seeing me
As usual
You'll pretend to be asleep
As usual
I'll turn my back on you
As usual
You'll turn your back on me
As usual
And I'll touch you
As usual
And you'll shudder
As usual
Tomorrow, I'll wake up
As usual
And we'll start all over again
As usual
```
Remember, this is a basic, straightforward translation, and the beauty of the original lyrics in their native language is always challenging to fully capture in another language.

Here are the full lyrics of "Comme d'habitude" translated into English:
### As Usual
[Verse 1]
I get up and I bump you
You don't wake up, as usual
On you, I pull the blanket
I'm afraid you'll be cold, as usual
My hand caresses your hair
Almost despite myself, as usual
But you, you turn your back on me
As usual
[Chorus]
And then I go out of the room
All alone, I drink my coffee
I'm late, as usual
Without a sound, I leave the house
Everything is gray outside
As usual
[Verse 2]
I’m cold, I lift my collar
As usual
As usual, all day long
I will play pretending
As usual, I will smile
As usual, I will even laugh
As usual, finally I will live
As usual
[Verse 3]
And then the day will pass
Me, I'll return
As usual
You, you will be out
Not yet returned
As usual
All alone, I will go to bed
In this big, cold bed
As usual
My tears, I will hide them
As usual
[Chorus]
As usual, even at night
I will play pretending
As usual, you will come back
As usual, I will wait for you
As usual, you will smile at me
As usual
[Outro]
As usual, you will undress
As usual, you will lie down
As usual, we will kiss
As usual
On 10 March 1978, Claude François returned to his Paris apartment at 46 Boulevard Exelmans. He was due to appear on Les Rendez-vous du Dimanche with Michel Drucker. While preparing for a bath, François attempted to straighten a lightbulb in his bathroom lamp, causing him to receive a severe electric shock. He died in his apartment.
Je did it mon way.

He's not. Get some balls and actually go search up the story of how this ain't became Sinatra's anthem
I just know the fact that It's The FRENCH Song which is The ORIGINAL Song then It was Translated into ENGLISH with Title " MY WAY " and Sung By Frank Sinatra 🙂🙂.
Just before someone tells us that this song remind them of My Way by Frank Sinatra, I would like to tell you something... It was first written in French. lol
And perfected in English, by an American. 😂
you mean by a Canadian. Paul Anka wrote what Sinatra sang. Anka was from Ottawa Ontario , Canada. @@FallenHellscape
@FallenHellscape Italo American, chill the fuck down, y'all spat on him for wanting to be an American when he was younger

La Lupes Rendition in Spanish was a much closer translation of this! Wow 😮😮😮😮
I thought Sinatra wrote this , and my friend said it was Paul Anka , we were wrong it was Jacques revaux and performed by claudie Francois
I have never heard a version of this song that doesn't touch my soul.

Thank you for the translation. Indeed it's a very touching song...
I didn't know until now that "I did my way" is an original French song.
It's not. This song and My Way are two different songs if not for the instrumental parts.
@yasininn76 yes different lyrics obviously French and English but the melody is the same. A French song of 1967 followed by Sinatra's cover version in 1969.
All the great songs are a translation of french songs, my way, somewhere beyond the sea...
Wow.
I prefere My way. But it is nice to be able to understand the lyrics in France as well... although the meaning is completely different.
This song was composed by Jacques Revaux, in colaboration with lyricists, Claud François (performing) and Gilles Thibaut (I think, please don't take this as fact, check for yourself ❤)
Yes, My Way is just a Cover
The origin
Great song. Don't speak French but not a requirement.
I have only seen Claude Francois before doing his cheesy mid-70s dance routines. I had no idea he could be so powerful. This song is also a million miles away from the self-congratulatory Sinatra lyrics. This is a song of pain and failure - it's much more compelling.
Era muy bueno, esto es música
Why didn’t Yseult sing Comme D’Habitude instead of My Way at the closing ceremony? I don’t understand.
pass to US.😊
Yes, came here because of Olympics Closing Ceremony
Looked up Yseult and Zaho because I have no idea of the band in middle but first song and the last was really well done !
